I don't think he was ready. They seem really lenient this season if the person is young and cute.
I do not think he is ready vocally - He is going to get a big shock in LA when he hears the other country singers - personally I would have recommended getting a coach and then playing at events etc. and then returning to Idol. I hope he does not get crushed by the experience.
