I am a mechanical engineer I can sharpen a driil bit by hand no special tools or angles. Just a bench grinder. Perfect every time. I've never bought a driil bit for about 30 years. Just a flick of the wrist for a couple of seconds done

Buy a Drill Doctor & it takes about 60 seconds & you can choose 118⁰ or 135⁰ angle, & you can split the tip, plus it sharpens carbide drill bits, too. Works better than hand grinding by far.

This is one of the most dangerous things you can do to a cutting stone. You will form a groove on the side of the cutting blade is the same as scoring a breaking point in it. This is extremely dangerous.

I have noticed that the grinder will not always be in the same position each time it is set up and the drill bits will not always hit the same place in the wheel. However, the point is moot if you are skilled enough to notice when a wheel has an issue. The fact is, anything you do in a shop is dangerous and the trick is to be aware of the worst case scenario. and mitigate (like not grinding every drill bit on the same point of the wheel). And if every new experience or idea causes you to cringe instead of refining the idea and thinking ahead, maybe a workshop is not a place you should be in because those are the people who get hurt.

@@josephfroman7135 you should use a gringing stone not a cut off disk are you trying to get people hurt !!! If that cut off y broke at that speed it goes flying fast use the right grinding disk for the right job as well as oil is better than water for cooling the drill bit after sharpening...

Потом расширяют отверстие сверлом нужного размера. При заточке сверла режущую кромку направляют навстречу вращения наждака.(диска). Также можно делать малые отверстия зенкером.

I learned how to do this by eye as a tradesman. And this is a great way to do it without that skill.
Some drill bits are only tip hardened. So it pays to learn how to re harden old drill bits too. But some think it is not 'cost effective' these days. But I can tell you that I have saved tens of thousands of dollars not buying new drill bits. And I have working drill bits that are over 50 years old that belonged to my father. Waste not, want not.

The cutoff disc is not made to have pressure applied to the side like that. But I also understand that it wasn't a lot of pressure. Someone else may not be able to be as careful as you were. ;-)

Never do what he just did please. Angle grinders are one of the most dangerous tools due to the disc breaking and trying to make it into a grinder weakens the disc increasing the chance of it breaking and launching into you. Also, their not meant to cut wood. Always use a tool for what it’s meant for or you will get the trouble your asking for. Also, without cutting oil on the drill bit, you are going to heat up the metal your attempting to drill resulting in dulling the drill again. Just buy a grinding wheel and stop listening to online know nothings please. Safety first or stay home.

Fraid to say put that effort alongside a brand new drill and you'll see that grind was a total disaster .
LOL seems to be some conflict of interest .......... cool the drill while grinding but achieving the opposite with the cigarette lighter . Cant figure that one

The lighter was used to soot the area of interest. "If soot gone, then the area is 'treated'."
Other than that, what this video shows is a total lack of understanding of which tool to use for what job.
First off, you dont use an angle grinder to cut wood. Next up is, you dont use a cutting blade for a grinding job.
Then after that, you dont need two separate 120° angles but you need to make sure your grinder is properly angled.
As you can see, the maker of this video doent care at all when it comes to feedback.

That was sharp? The way it was cutting, I would be considering throwing the bit away AFTER he "sharpened" it.
Nobody has time for that. Well, maybe this guy. I mean he had an insane amount of time available to make the worst jog on the net...so there's that.

Lol... You don't know anything about sharpening drills. You don't leave the tip of the drill like that (like a shovel), with a mega positive attack angle. To reduce drilling resistance, make two undercuts. Respect the tool.
