I really enjoyed watching this since I'm much more of a visual learner and to see your thought process was really helpful and inspirational. I've used the free version of Canva and its really in-depth like you said but it was cool to see the pro version of it too. I'm a little more laid back in my design ideas but the one little trick that I've come up with to know which villagers are going to be permanent residents is I create a succulent plant for them. Its really easy to make, it makes a nice welcome gift, and its something that is a good visual reminder for me that I want to remodel the villager's house later.

Im so obsessed with this theme and the fact that the characters will have storylines, I was thinking and it could be a fun idea to have a jock villager that moved bc of an injury and had to retire from the sport, he then falls in love with the town and helps the other characters work out in an easy way like them public gym just very simple but I think it could be really cute 🥰

Your creativity is truly an inspiration and I'm definitely going to try to start doing mood boards. They seem super helpful when you have a particular theme in mind and to keep you from getting stuck. I love the villagers you've decided on so far! Tutu is so cute I love her. This mood board is looking so sweet and romantic. And I loved listening while designing my own island. If you want more villager suggestions, Pate (she definitely looks concerned). And Monty might be an option? Azalea and Freya might work too (they also may be too vibrant) can't remember how you feel about birds but Blanche also could fit. I love the retreat/kinda rehabilitating idea for this place, a place for healing the mind and soul.
I highly recommend Agnes. She's a florist on my island, and compliments the white, purple and blue flowers so well. She doesn't get washed out, but blends nicely. Just my two cents. Love the piggy
I am a bit behind on the Let's Play videos, but I'm absolutely loving them. I am doing a similar process with my own island and really enjoying the process. Ive never done a mood board but love Canva so I logged in and going to rewatch and work along side you!! I appreciate the attention and effort in your videos!! It does not go unnoticed ❤️

So refining the "resort" idea - maybe having that be more like a recreation center for the community so it focuses more on being a retreat for the villagers who live there and not catering to tourists? That way it stays more true to your original vision for the island?

Villager suggestions: Antonio is a must with his soft gray/cream color scheme. Who else will lead marathon yoga sessions on the beach? Also, I don't know if you're anti-goat, but Pashmina also had a very soft look with pretty soft blue eye shadow. I want to like Skye but her unblinking staring round eye with one eye lash is terrifying. Shep fits your island vibe as someone who left the rat race background in the 70s and started a commune.
