  • British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called a surprise general election, scheduling the vote for July 4. After 14 years in power, his governing Conservatives are widely expected to lose to the opposition Labour Party.
    Ending months of speculation about the election date, Sunak, 44, announced the early poll on Wednesday from outside his Downing Street office, catching many by surprise.
