    Augustus 3.0 is out and we're continuing our playthrough with it! It's WAY harder, especially considering the balance changes are throwing off my sense of things.       I feel it's much more fun as viewer as well, just seeing you trying to make the city function properly. Besides, the emphasis on beauty from Augustus 3.0 makes the city naturally look more appealing as well. Really nice job by the modders :)

      I noticed Oracles make the gods happy when you just put the foundation.
      (And the game is more difficult indeed. I liked that you don't get so easily that huge sum of money and can't just do whatever you want)

    I'm an old Caesar III player, I discovered your channel and Augustus recently and made a full Augustus 2.0 playthrough since. And even if I'm hyped by the 3.0 additions, I do not know if I will survive through it. After all, you managed easily the vanilla angry gods challenge that I never overcame, and now you are struggling.

    I am so happy that now you can't just dump a bunch of theaters and schools for that sweet culture. You can't just dump a bunch of tends for that sweet workforce without any consequences. The game really feels more like a city administration where you have to consider money, people's mood, unemployment, and your other objectives (keep Caesar happy, defend your city, make the city grow and try to make something beautiful meanwhile)

    Thank you for the video!
    I am glad you figured out the trade problem. Have not played Caesar 3 for ages, but I think your trade problems was originate from pure trade efficiency considering the placement of warehouses, as some stated in chat. If I remember correctly, the new caravan can't enter city if there one in and there no max number of traders per year (or it is like 24 a year and natives count to this). And the one that was in need to go sell some meat and wine to the south then go buy pottery and furniture to the north across all the map. I think it spends about 3-4 months in the city because of that, so you only have like 2 caravans a year. Closer to the end (well nearly 3 and half hours into the game), when you begun to import wine via sea route and max on the meat in warehouse, the caravans only need to sell some marble and go to the north of the river to buy some goods, so you got your second caravan in April, not in July. I think if you reroute all the land trade to the south near the patrician district. And I really thought there was direct road connection to the warehouses in south.
    P.S. Oh and for all that Normal - Very Hard. If you got 25% decrease in taxes on Very Hard means you only receive 75%. So on Normal you got 33% more taxes than on Very Hard, not 25% more. So it is even more insane gap!

      This is exactly the reason he wasn't getting enough caravans. On maps where the entry and exits are on opposite sides of the map, it really limits the number of traders you'll get as each will sit on the map for too long. In a case like this where he isn't trading the maximum amounts allowed by the trade route, then all the warehouses traders trade at should be on a straight line between the entry and exit of the map.

    The land trader issues seems to be that that bridge and the road added about 2-3 months to the trip, and new traders can't spawn until the old ones leave, which was usually taking till about June. Sea trade routes are much nicer for this. You want all the selling/buying warehouses in a block along the fastest route out of the city with getting warehouses elsewhere for anything you are importing. Otherwise you run into the caravan being stuck in the city for multiple months.

    If you go to the ratings overseer and click on culture it will tell you which building you need the most to improve your city's culture, like Academies, Theaters, etc.

    Seeing this video again (heatwave still on, need something refreshing to watch!), first I have to agree that the theater walkers are probably bugged at some point. I thought maybe they were walking towards the Actor Colony but no, they despawned almost 5 tiles before they reached it so it's a bug.
    Second, at around 2:25:45, you could "break" that long road with the potteries, across the river, on both sides and have an extention of Clay Pits near the river (south of the road) and pottery workshops on the opposite side (north of the road, towards the trees). You CAN place 3 Pits easily in that nook facing your Docks, maybe even 4 if space allows. You can then replace the 2 workshops demolished to break open the new areas AND place another 6-8 on the back of the existing ones, near your barracks. I think, along with the 3 Pits you placed near your farms, it SHOULD solve any pottery problems. Alternatively, you can break open only on the northern side as there IS a gap to the southern nook, between your pottery warehouse and pottery workshops.

    Nice playthrough, very enjoyable. Your conclusion pretty much sums up the greatness of Augustus. Luxury palaces become really an achievement on some map and one need to wisely select which marble building to build.
    By the way : my trade route from Caesara has 24 furniture sold, 24 pottery, 8meat, 8marble, 8oil bought in a year. Not sure if I could push even more, I think I was full to buy more. I believe your route was simply too long.
    No Grand Mercury temple, No Caravaneserai. I position the warehouses where I buy at the entrance, so they go there first. And warehouses where I sell in the middle of the map.

    sometimes houses just hordes a lot of stuff for some reasons.
    it was a struggle for testing aswell.
    like a small hut that had 500 food for whatever reason.

    3:45:15 I think you can turn off wine import for the land traderoute, just have no warehouse accepting wine and caravans. Just wine and ships.

    Biggest takeaway from this video, on maps with no marble production, Luxury Palaces are a "no-no"! Perhaps Villas but not LPs.

    2:45:30 In my experience so far, higher wages still work in 3.0. Paid 8 over on my last map and taxed 12%, sentiment was mostly "People love you" or "extremely pleased", no Venus boosts etc.

    My guess as to why the one villa was lacking entertainment is because that one always had the walker 1 space away from the building so it wasnt getting the same saturation as the villas being next to the road.

    From my days playing the original for this mission, you don't really need heavy infantry, javelin and horseman can handle the invaders you get. Do not have to go to the expense of importing weapons.

    I wondered whether Augustus has changed the interaction between performer buildings and entertainment venues. Could your problem with “not enough entertainment” for the palace block have been because you only had one actor colony for a theatre *and* amphitheatre? Does that mean you have to build a new performer building for each venue so that there’s always a show on at each venue?

      Hi! Doing well here, just pushing to make sure everything is okay these coming months. I actually really love CRPGs, they're my favourite games to play when I have nothing to do. It's just oddly they never get any views on this channel haha. I've done a few videos on Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, Baldur's Gate 3, and a full Fallout 2 playthrough but unfortunately most just don't watch that kind of stuff on this channel.

      Well maybe people only have seen the newer ones like Skyrim and never bothered to look into older and underrated ones, it happens. LOL With regards to Divinity: Original Sin, it's quite a very unique approach to CRPGs that you might find interesting.       About the Caravansarai, just smack a granary next to it, allow market ladies in it, have it "Get" any food available in the city and you're GOOD! What's so hard about that?

      Your confusion about the theatre walkers is not justified. Theatres spawn walkers of their own, Actor colonies do the same. Place them on opposite sides of a forced walker loop and you have walkers, actors in this case, walking on opposite directions!
      If you want to test it, have a single road isolated from everything and place some theatres on it and see what happens!

      @@MaegnasMw Can't just put a granary where I first placed the caravanserai because the getting cart pushers would have to go through my entire housing loop over the mountain and it would take way too long to stay stocked. Also, I followed the theatre walkers going to 'wrong' way, it is a bug. They're walking as if they're forced walkers but they aren't set up to be forced walkers, also, they just despawn instead of returning to their building. The game isn't supposed to work like that.

      @@GamerZakh under Augustus, granary cart pushers CAN go off road so no need for them to go all the way through the road system - even if you don't check that option, there's no hurry, this is not to feed people. They can always get (and they get a LOT each trip) what they can, at their slow pace, no harm done. Anyway, you ended up "paying" for it twice on a map where money was super tight.
      I don't know if it is a bug or not, theatres do spawn their own walkers (you SHOULD check their names btw!!), how they walk and how far they can go I do not know (as opposed to actor colonies, the theatre walkers have no destination to walk to so either it is a bug or they are just....wandering??) You have contact with the Augustus team, you can verify this. Are the actors spawned from theatres designed to walk aimlessly along a road or not? I am not saying it is not a bug, I am just saying (a) theatres spawn their walkers and (b) they do walk, just not sure how far they can reach and towards where they go.

      @@MaegnasMw Granary walkers can go off road if you set that option, but 1, I don't use that option and 2, they only go off road if there is no road connection. I didn't want to break my road connection so even if that option is turned on, which it isn't, they would not go off-road.
      As for the theatre walker, they do send out wandering walkers but are only supposed to go about 20 tiles. Not infinitely through the entire forced walkers path. That's a bug.

    2:50:49 you enclosed the vegi silo with roadblocks roadblocks dont provide roadaccess (as they arent roads in the code). so the silo is not working.

    I was wiped out by Caesar legions allied with tribal. Although they met in the city they didn't fought between them. Anyway .. what`s the idea with those 2 markets near the granary (whiteout houses to serve)? Thanks.

      @@GamerZakh Sorry, I mean evolving all insulae further even to grand insulae. Requires some more oil but wouldn't it give more tax money and allow to increase tax levels without upsetting people?

      @@rupko Because to provide more resources it takes more employees. More employees means more cost in wages, especially if you're going for grand insula which needs a whole other type of food. If you're farming the 2nd type of food, you have to double your farms. If you need to import the second type of food, it has a much greater cost and limited supply. Basically, the taxes will not cover the cost of providing those resources. Not to mention, space can be an issue and when using force walker you need to have the markets just a few tiles away from the granary and warehouses. A second type of food will halve the speed a food market works. So you need to spend a lot of time and money optimising positioning and distances, and you can see in this video I barely had enough money already.

    Played 2 maps with the new Augustus mod. Did they reduce the spawn time / rate of traders ? Seems to me that I could never sell most of my stuff even if the donkeys were on the perfect path. Seems like they spawn slower ,might be just me that I have this impression. I had this problem on Lutetia , I could barely sell half my weapons and half my furniture , weird

      This was a bug in 3.0.1 which has since been fixed and will be on the new bugfix release.

      I'd say I'm forcing them to walk, because I'm basically locking the door behind them and the only way they can go home is to walk through the whole city to the other door.

      I had the same problem where all the new buildings (and a few of the "old" ones) completely bugged out when placed (black square instead of normal look, can't delete them nor interact with them but they would still send out workers) i reinstalled and overwrote the previous files and it seems to work fine now

    You CAN turn off imports from either land or sea trade routes, just do NOT provide any places accepting their respective traders and off you go!

      You named TWO things that could help you get LPs but tried none; raising the global entertainment rating AND allowing the tavern to use meat. You could try at least one of the two because if the Hippodrome, along with the Colosseum, is not enough then we're royally screwed since LPs will be a dream on most maps, no?

    Aren't the new entertainment requirements for villas overblown? Houses evolving differently with a same level of entertainment seems like a bug.

      I don't think it was a bug, some of the palaces were getting coliseum walker access and some were getting tavern walker access.

      There would be constant riots. Setting up a new housing area and feeding them a little late already causes riots. You'd have to surround the tent area with heavy military.

      That's an August modded option, global labour, that makes the game work more like Zeus and Emperor.

      Make sure you place your C3 install on a folder where you have permission to write files. As an alternative you can run Augustus as Administrator but that's not a great solution.

      This would be a slightly older version of Augustus, a modded engine replacement for Caesar 3.

    Hi Guys
    need some advise, Caesar I downloaded from Steam has only 10 missions and after Caeser as a role, there are no more challenges.
    Can someone enlighten me how to unlock the other stages?

      You mean when playing through the campaign? In one run you can only play that many missions because you pick military or peaceful each step. When you pick one you skip the other.

      So 20 will be if I combine, tutorial + Peaceful missions + Military missions?

      Yeah that's right, the mission structure is a bit weird in Caesar 3 and it's designed for you to play through the campaign twice.

    I still think running out of money NOT being such a real problem is a bad glitz in the game. Just spending beyond your means without any real penalty in the beginning is not realistic. Should not get so many reimbursements.

      There's only 1 reimbursement. Running out of money is a pretty big problem if you can't get out of debt. You can lose 10 favour a year and if drops too low Caesar will come attack you.
