I think the only really bad part was the cartoonishly depicted enemies wearing the “traditional” gear. Other than that, it’s just remote villages just like re4 and 8

It baffles me how this controversy was dug out of its grave 10 plus years after the fact when even the VA for Sheva said the game isn't racist and nobody should think it is. The game isn't even about Africa or its people, it's just the setting.
I still play mercenaries in RE5 till this day, the game is one of my all-time favorites. The racism part is foolishness. They were in Spain in 4, what's the issue.

As an old player who started with RE1 on Playstation, am i truly alone when im saying that RE5 does not need a remake? I always tried to imagine RE1 or Code Veronica on todays RE Engine and im thrilled only by thinking about it.
I had my fun with all parts of the series but thats how i think...

Actually my main complaint of the game back then was it wasn’t scary. At all. Completely went over my head that it was a action game. Resident evil before then had always been scary. Except 5 and 6

The story takes place in Africa with infected Africans. Four had Spanish enemies and didn't hear no complaints.
I played re5 a lot back in the day. With that said Code Veronica is my pick for remake.

An RE5 remake could be incredibly exciting and intense. Incorporating stealth, more dynamic melee combat, and better coop, this could be a very fun game. Plus, the setting was cool!

Notice how when they started to go the direction of racism, they showed the trailer and the part where you are up against the more primitive enemies. But when you play in the village, there is ALSO some white infected sprinkled in there.
This game needs a remake to improve on the horror aspect.

RE 5 is perfectly fine to play and enjoy. These people just want to cause dramas over everything they can.
As a side note: I personally did like RE Village a lot. I don't think it was a misstep. Imo RE3 Remake was the misstep, not that I think is bad, but it definitively threw out of the window a LOT of potential.
If its not 5 remade, don't call it 5 remade, call it something else. No point changing everything and calling it 5.
Five was the first one I ever played and it’s fun I think it’s to early to be remade but also the OG RE4 wasn’t that old either but I’d be down for a remake of it

RE 5 is a great game, and I'm in the minority, but I'm over the remakes and I would like to move forward with original RE games honestly.
This is such an Internet thing, nobody I know who actually played the game ever had the thought that the game was racist.
I don't speak for all black people but I am black and here is my perspective. Resident Evil 5 is the first RE game that I experienced and I loved it. I played Village, RE2-4 remakes, and I've been excited for day one to get a remake for re5.
I think they can try and learn more about Africa and put more of that into the area like they did with RE4 make the maps look a bit more authentic to places in Africa and put more detail into the environments. In regard to IGN's comments on the depiction of the villagers, from the start of the game you can tell they are under the influence of a parasite and for the ones that aren't I took it as they are angry to see an outside entering their village.
The only thing I'm worried about is them getting the skin tone, face and model of Shiva to match or be better then the original. In the original she looks fine but most of these game company spend no time making black characters look realistic or just make them all look generic and or stereotypical but with the work they put into the other re remakes I think they will get Shiva's model right. I want them to give Shiva a much deeper story that resonates with the player and I would love to see Shiva in another resident evil game to continue her story even if it's a spin off like the revelations games.
I don't think the original is racist or depicts an entire race of people but I do want them to do this remake right and put significant effort into making it a real banger. I loved to co-op aspect of the RE games from Zero, 5, and Revelations 1 and 2. I just want them to build upon it can make the ai smarter and do some more interesting puzzles and task with the co op player. I feel like with the other games they had a lot of deep lore and storyline to go off of with this one besides the main basic story from the original I think there's a lot of room for them to go deeper into the storyline and really make this a more memorable game.
Re2 and re3 remake had lots of black zombies more than any minority

Idc about the games location. Re 5 in general is a bad game in terms of being a real RE game. RE was never meant to be that action heavy and I really hope they return to form with the remake. I really think Code Veronica will be the next remake anyway. The fans deserve it

Well games do reflect the global societies we live in. Even Super Mario is fighting a murderous Turtle Dragon razing the land for resources and even kidnapping/ enslaving the populous. Resident Evil 5 does have a narrative of racism when you have a global corporation taking advantage of natural resources, completing unlawful experiments, and using the regional people as soldiers against their will. Come On. This has occurred in the real world. To dismiss the conversation in a much more globally aware community lacks awareness. I platinumed RE5 and will again when it is remade. The conversation will continue as the world continues to be fuck all with people of color. To say games are an escape are correct. A great escape but the issues are always in the underlying journey.
Everyone is dumb about calling re5 racist.....everyones said it, ill say it. Leon killed Spainards in re4....no one complained same thing with remake. No one complained, but it's the internet. Resident evil 5 is my favorite game
I had the base game on my PS3 and i played hell out of this amazing title but then again i went and bought the Gold edition because i was having a ton of fun playing it and again i bought it on steam after several years long but the GFWL issue kept me away from enjoying it but thankfully Capcom fixed it last year through a much needed update so the moment i saw this i immediately re-installed the game and started playing it and yes again i still enjoy RE5 till this day.Capcom please dont listen to this racist bullcrap and give us RE5 remake
Irving, Excella, Wesker. The 3 main antagonists are white people. No one complained at shouting white zombies in Re1,2 and 3 or Spanish people in 4. Like come on get a grip. Re 5 is a great game.

There was a specific reason why characters like Sheva Alomar and Josh Stone introduced in the game and since it was set in FICTIONAL AFRICA so you have Chris with Sheva and Jill with Josh fighting side by side.I dont see any reason as to why would you call this game 'racist' this is ridiculous

Capcom on a winning streak? Ummm.... RE7 was great (not a classic but solid), Re2make was great (not as good as original), RE3 remake was a DLC at retail price, Village was a massive let down that looked great, played average and the story crapped itself. The Resident Evil 4 remake is slightly worse than Re2make, probably better than Re7 depending on whether you want horror or action.
I think the thing is, none of these games are messes. Capcom are definitely doing better than most companies and the Resident Evil series looks messianic compared to your CoD's, Battlefront, Fifa etc. Capcom is clearly trying to please fans.
Honestly, I expect the Re5 remake to be better than the original but worse than 4's remake, I imagine Re9 will look great but the story may chug along, and if we get the C.V remake, they can't really mess that one up because fans either love or despise that game.
