It's not really one or the other. People like Roger, Garp, Mihawk and Shanks don't have devil fruits so they can put 100% of their training time into Haki and their Martial Arts People like Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Sengoku etc have to split time between training their devil fruit abilities and Haki. They might not have Haki as strong as the people on the other list, but their DF powers give them abilities and versatility that the Haki only specialists can't hope to match. It balances out

It's really just mythical zoans tend to cross categories usually into what we recognize as paramecia-like abilities. I've always kind of considered paramecia fruits to be fruits of "human" imagination. They're mostly ideas, concepts, and the sort manifested. It doesn’t mean he’s going to lose to any sword user though. He could easily use Haki to block and in the recent chapter he wasn’t looking at Kaido when he used the tatsumaki. He easily blocked away that same attack in chapter 1037. That weakness was a pre timeskip weakness imo because Haki wasn’t a thing
@@Captain-Blunt. It honestly depends on how generous Oda is with Luffy’s reality warping in Gear 5. Yes he can theoretically make the weapons of his enemies rubbery with his awakening, however the “haki threshold” or whatever you wanna call it to overcome Gear 5 is an unknowable unknown. Haki in one piece is not quantifiable. It’s whatever Oda wants or needs it to be for the most dramatic tension possible.

@nG I DoMe when did I say Haki was not necessary? Just devil fruits are more important and Haki is not the be all end all. You still need Haki to be a top tier, but a really god devil fruit can do a lot of the heavy lifting.
I could really see uta asking luffy how he got his hat, and when he reveals that it was shanks we get a backstory where we finally see shanks explain that he was waiting to give that hat to someone special
I disagree with kol saying Luffy is immune to swords. Kaido's club has spikes, but it's a kanabo, which usually have blunt spikes just to do more smashing damage when swinging.
I think the new generation is spoilt in the sense that they got their devil fruits very early in their journey, with majority getting them before learning about haki. Kaido got his devil fruit after years of combat in crew that housed some of the world's most terrifying monsters in the history pirates. I believe there's an advantage in getting a DF after you've mastered intensely all forms of haki. The advantage being that if you do get a DF, you'll only focus on mastering it as opposed to doing haki training along with trying master your DF simultaneously.

When you guys talk about forms, I think Gear 5 will have different forms with Haki on his body just like gear 4. How you lightning said something about the world government not being as strong as the yonkos, a while back they abolished the warlord system because they said they believe they are strong enough to compete.
I think the actual power of the Nikki Fruit is that they can “Bend” anything to their will Figuratively and Literally hence the rubber properties it presents But it only presents like that for certain types of people “Joy Boy” “Luffy” etc. For other people it could take on a entirely different property all together

The greatest part about Kaido confirming this is that Luffy isn't some automatic world saving chosen one because he has the Nika fruit. Luffy's action and soul triumph over all preconceived notions both the fans and the verse have had.
For Haki > DF, you can't just take it on a power level context. Haki is a manifestation of one's ambition and willpower. So basically, those with strong Haki (especially CoC) have a strong willpower and ambition. With this context, Kaido's words can be taken as "Having a strong cheat power isn't enough, you need to have a strong will to conquer the world". So basically, only having a bright talent (DF power in One Piece context) won't bring you to the top. What you need is a strong will to push yourself despite how talentless (again, DF in One Piece) you are. It happened a lot in real life too right? There are a lot of people with bright talents, but they refuse to push and challenge themselves to reach the higher level. In the end, they "lose" to those with less talents but have a will to become better and better. Basically, it's having talent (DF) vs effort and a will to reach the top (haki). Now imagine of someone having both. Even IRL, people like that are the most scary type. And we have our boi Luffy here that have both. He will no doubt surpass Roger.
So basically you’re saying it like this, Roger>Whitebeard with Haki(not saying he’s stronger) because he has more will to become something BIG and Whitebeard automatically > Roger with devil fruits but Whitebeard mastered his fruit to the best extent that it made up for his haki because he also did have a strong type of sense since family is important and deep for him. I think the admirals are definitely weaker than the yonko, there is a reason that they need the warlords to Ballance the power between them and the Yonko. If the admirals where stronger then the 4 of them would just go and take down the yonko execute them and end piracy it's Admirals + Warlords = 1 of the Yonko and that's the Ballance because typically the yonko never work together.
As kaido said only HAKI can stand ABOVE all. And the admirals only have strong devil fruit and teamwork to make effective enough haki barriers to counter yonkos because they don't have advance coc at the sky splitting level or even at all I must say except for sengoku. And garp is a vice admiral with it too. Now luffy has INSANE HAKI and the most BUSTED DEVIL FRUIT in existence even kaido the strongest being acknowledged his devil fruit as the strongest hes ever seen and that's why he said no matter how powerful your devil fruit only haki surpasses it all
Bruh, there’s more than just the yonko, you have commanders and their crews. The Warlords are there to balance those forces out, not the top dogs. There’s only three, and so they to be on the same level or it wouldn’t make sense to send them out against admirals if they weren’t on the same level.
Luffy would be stronger than roger and anyone in the story for sure. Because Roger Conquer the seas when he is already 30+ years old. And guys look at luffy he is just 20 but already fighting a Yonko with more than 20 years of battle experience and master of all haki. Are people ever going to realize what kept the Whitebeard Pirates from being potentially wasted by the Marines and Warlords was Luffy and Plot. As the story progresses we are going to see characters that CLEARLY didn't go all out in Marineford show their true power. If you remove Luffy and put Dressrosa Doflamingo in Marineford he alone changes they entire battle massively in the Marines favor and the same thing is going to apply when we see Mihawk's true power, the Admirals true power, Garp's true power and so on.

Akainu got 1 clean hit and 1 cheap shot off. Even if you remove the heart attack there's no evidence to say that WB would have made substantial gains in their 1v1. WB had the strength to do what he did against Akainu while getting jump by 100s of fodder Marines, having a heart attack, and taking like 3 lasers from Kizaru, impressive. What's also impressive is Akainu having the strength to 1v15 14 out of 16 WB division commanders (Ace was dead and Jozu was frozen) plus Crocodile after taking to island cracking hits from WB back to back.

Can't really grade Luffy's level of strength here either because he's still technically on deaths door fighting right now. Kaido apparently still had all this left. I think Luffy healthy going straight into gear 5 it's a much more equal fight between him and Kaido. I think Big Mom is overrated, clearly weaker than Kaido and Shanks, indicated by Oda handing her over to Kidd and Law to fight this arc. I think this will be ultimately proven when Luffy has to fight her again later on.
Before I listen to this video I gotta say Big Mom took an L this chapter. My current head cannon is that Big mom is not intentional when she uses her Haki. The more enraged she gets the more powerful her haki becomes. Even with how mad she got vs Kid and Law she only used CoC on Page one and I feel that was VERY intentional from ODA to show us what Big moms about. This chapter implies to me that big mom is too reliant on her DF ability for Kaido to see her as a top tier. just my 2 cents tho

Kaido said that Luffy's weakness is still cutting attacks which is why he threw that barrage of those attacks into the sky at him and there is panels where he is bleeding from the attacks, his body didn't mold around each of those attacks so I think Mihawk is a bad matchup for him personally.
But none made a noticeable dent into luffy just little slashes. I think Luffy is officially Yonko level and only those or stronger can stand at his level. Mihakw most likely is ready to face Zoro but Luffy would end him.

The conversation at 38:34 about Akainu’s magma. Haki is a massive defensive buff. We know WB wasn’t using haki or wasn’t using it to defend himself. Shanks used his sword to block Akainu’s magma fist. We’re not sure if he used haki but we’ll say he didn’t because it wasn’t stated. Shanks used a regular sword to block his magma fist. Law also uses his blade to clash with Doffy and then uses haki on his fist to block Doffy’s strings. Same strings that obliterated a meteor. So saying Akainu could just one shot everybody because he uses magma is wrong because one could use haki to defend against it.
on the subject of marines vs Pirates. they both are prominent throughout the story but pre time skip seemed to place the spotlight on marines/world government(vice admirals, the seven warlords ,ending with admirals)and Pirates post time skip( 4 emperors). i believe the final arc will circle back to marines/world government.

This is why I like gear 5 and the fight with Luffy vs Kaido. For starters, Luffy did need to be elevated to a position where he could thrive endgame and by thrive I mean to actually effect changes in upcoming arcs. Gear 4 was not enough to do that, we already saw in this fight that Kaido can use some form of future sight. And lets be real, in the chapter where cp0 interfered in the fight, Luffy WAS NOT going to KO kaido with that damn attack. It was never an even clash as far as Luffy having a chance to knock him out cold. Next, Luffy's fights can be very formulaic to me. For the most part I am ok with it but there have been times where it gets slightly annoying. Luffy is the underdog, he gets stomped to shit, he either pulls some new move out or pulls some extra grit/resolve out and pushes through. Definitely a Shonen trope but that doesn't stop it from being eye roll at times. With gear 5 I literally DON'T know what Luffy is going to do nor do I know the limits of his capabilities yet and it is extremely refreshing. Maybe some people aren't noticing it but he has been tanking attacks from Kaido with apparent ease in gear 5. I think a lot of us have been slightly lowballing haki because of awakenings and users having multiple fruits. Kaido just stated that haki reigns supreme but we know that gear 5 also boosts luffy's haki proficiency in at least 2 categories, armament and conquers.

Nah, Luffy doesn't have missing limbs or many broken bones. His rubber body's passives have always canceled out most physical damage not caused by blades.
Wasnt zoro confirmed to have broken around 30 broken bones by law? Then he got that either doubled or multiple times over due to the booster medicine thing from chopper, on top of his injuries king gave him, then the grim reaper thing which is why hes basically dead rn, id say hes more damaged than anyone, well, except for the dead people.
People don't understand this fact. The idea that the Scabbards, Supernova and Yamato have significantly done more damage to Kaido than Kaido himself has done to Luffy is just ignorant. The attacks that took these guys out, mostly oneshots are the caliber of attacks that Luffy takes barrages of, while their amped with conqueror's haki as well. The fact that Luffy is still standing doesn't mean he hasn't taken damage. It's that the damage that K.O'd Zoro is not enough to put Luffy down, that's how far ahead Luffy has gotten during this fight. So, a dragon twister slicing off Kiku's arm and thunder bagua fucking up Yamato(a zoan) should tell you just how much MORE Luffy tanks, with the 3 realms Ragnarok among other destructive attacks. All that while, Kaido was dominating Luffy so he took very little damage from Luffy until their final fight where he "killed" Luffy(his snake man: hydra did damage). And even now, when he does take damage, he at least makes sure to trade in that moment. So Luffy hits him, and he immediately retaliates. In that context, Kaido has taken FAR less damage compared to Luffy based on his stats. And Zoro has taken even more damage compared to Luffy based on his stats. Meaning, on an attack scale of 100 and a defence scale of 500. a 50 attack could do 10 damage to Kaido's 500, and do 30 damage to Luffy's 500 while it does 50 damage to Zoro's 500. On top of that, Kaido heals over time and Luffy heals with enough protein(meat) while Zoro is just fucked. They are built differently, just landing many attacks doesn't mean you're doing damage, it's landing potent attacks that do damage. That's why a SINGLE landed attack from Oden earned him a top 5 spot in Kaido's mind, while all the scabbards and Zoro's attacks, he saw them as mediocre. Even Zoro expressed his disappointment in how little his Ashura could do. yet, a single conqueror's haki uppercut punch by Luffy put Kaido on his ass and changed the way we saw that fight. TLDR: - *Based on YOUR stats, you take more or less damage and since Kaido has a higher defense stat than Luffy while simultaneously having a higher attack, AND dominating all their fights until now, logically Luffy has taken more damage than him.*
KOL is out of his mind on some these things. Garp is top 5 and he has Conquers. Luffy is already Yonkō level. Oden fighting WB and Roger was not the same as when he fought Kaido. Do you think in the time he spent with them he didn't learn CoC? Of course he did.
I feel like it’s pretty obvious that Luffy loses in a true 1v1. Kaido has taken just about every attack in the world and has fought like 10+ top tier fighters and is still winning a fight against a super powered up Luffy.
Maybe shanks kept Luffy alive because he didn’t want to lose the fruit. With it remaining in Luffy it was hidden and he knew where it’s power would be the whole time.
MF shows the greatness of the WB pirates. It took the WG a whole scheme to combat them they had to plan the traps of the terrain to slow down the WB crew that wasn't a full strength (WB old and sick, Ace starved and tortured, BB missing, thatch missing). The commanders got taken down or stalled by characters that could fight yonko that being Admirals and Mihawk while Kaido's crew is having trouble with the Strawhats full alliance and Big Mom crew had trouble with a weaker version of the Strawhat crew partial alliance. MF felt fake some many people there not showing off their true abilities and many people there could have kicked Luffy off the island.
37:00 I was today years old when i heard KOL say that Marineford WB took LESS dmg than Kaido in Wano and that Luffy's Supreme Kong gun is MORE lethal than Akainu's magma punches that blew away WB's head and chest. My man KOL has truly lost it
Whitebeard was just a man. His defense was just the haki he could use. He was sick so his haki game was unreliable. Kaido has 100% taken more damage this arc than whitebeard did at marineford.
You don’t understand his point. MF WB takes damages from Fodder Marines. G4 punches doesn’t even affect Kaido pre Ryou training. Kaido’s durability is what makes him take absolutely no damage. Your attack must be extremly haxxed like Law’s or Imbued in Advanced CoC or CoA to hurt him. Helmeppo with a gun could have hurt WB. That’s the difference.
You have to think of the marines as one crew. The marines hold the power they have because of weapons and how massive the crew is. Not because they have the strongest members. The admirals and generals aren't unbaleavibly strong. There are just so many of them that they maintain power. They might not have Haki as strong as the people on the other list, but their DF powers give them abilities and versatility that the Haki only specialists can't hope to match. It balances out

Yes he can theoretically make the weapons of his enemies rubbery with his awakening, however the “haki threshold” or whatever you wanna call it to overcome Gear 5 is an unknowable unknown. Haki in one piece is not quantifiable. It’s whatever Oda wants or needs it to be for the most dramatic tension possible.

I disagree with kol saying Luffy is immune to swords. Kaido's club has spikes, but it's a kanabo, which usually have blunt spikes just to do more smashing damage when swinging.

I think the new generation is spoilt in the sense that they got their devil fruits very early in their journey, with majority getting them before learning about haki. Kaido got his devil fruit after years of combat in crew that housed some of the world's most terrifying monsters in the history pirates. I believe there's an advantage in getting a DF after you've mastered intensely all forms of haki. The advantage being that if you do get a DF, you'll only focus on mastering it as opposed to doing haki training along with trying master your DF simultaneously.
This is the reason I believe sabo will be stronger than ace was, he mastered haki and became 2nd in command without a df now add a logia on top of that?

When you guys talk about forms, I think Gear 5 will have different forms with Haki on his body just like gear 4. I think the actual power of the Nikki Fruit is that they can “Bend” anything to their will Figuratively and Literally hence the rubber properties it presents

The greatest part about Kaido confirming this is that Luffy isn't some automatic world saving chosen one because he has the Nika fruit. Luffy's action and soul triumph over all preconceived notions both the fans and the verse have had.
For Haki > DF, you can't just take it on a power level context. Haki is a manifestation of one's ambition and willpower. So basically, those with strong Haki (especially CoC) have a strong willpower and ambition. With this context, Kaido's words can be taken as "Having a strong cheat power isn't enough, you need to have a strong will to conquer the world". So basically, only having a bright talent (DF power in One Piece context) won't bring you to the top. What you need is a strong will to push yourself despite how talentless (again, DF in One Piece) you are. It happened a lot in real life too right? There are a lot of people with bright talents, but they refuse to push and challenge themselves to reach the higher level. In the end, they "lose" to those with less talents but have a will to become better and better. Basically, it's having talent (DF) vs effort and a will to reach the top (haki). Now imagine of someone having both. Even IRL, people like that are the most scary type. And we have our boi Luffy here that have both. He will no doubt surpass Roger.

I think the admirals are definitely weaker than the yonko, there is a reason that they need the warlords to Ballance the power between them and the Yonko. If the admirals where stronger then the 4 of them would just go and take down the yonko execute them and end piracy it's Admirals + Warlords = 1 of the Yonko and that's the Ballance because typically the yonko never work together.
As kaido said only HAKI can stand ABOVE all. And the admirals only have strong devil fruit and teamwork to make effective enough haki barriers to counter yonkos because they don't have advance coc at the sky splitting level or even at all I must say except for sengoku. And garp is a vice admiral with it too. Are people ever going to realize what kept the Whitebeard Pirates from being potentially wasted by the Marines and Warlords was Luffy and Plot. As the story progresses we are going to see characters that CLEARLY didn't go all out in Marineford show their true power. If you remove Luffy and put Dressrosa Doflamingo in Marineford he alone changes they entire battle massively in the Marines favor and the same thing is going to apply when we see Mihawk's true power, the Admirals true power, Garp's true power and so on.

WB had the strength to do what he did against Akainu while getting jump by 100s of fodder Marines, having a heart attack, and taking like 3 lasers from Kizaru, impressive. What's also impressive is Akainu having the strength to 1v15 14 out of 16 WB division commanders (Ace was dead and Jozu was frozen) plus Crocodile after taking to island cracking hits from WB back to back.

Can't really grade Luffy's level of strength here either because he's still technically on deaths door fighting right now. Kaido apparently still had all this left. I think Luffy healthy going straight into gear 5 it's a much more equal fight between him and Kaido. I think Big Mom is overrated, clearly weaker than Kaido and Shanks, indicated by Oda handing her over to Kidd and Law to fight this arc. I think this will be ultimately proven when Luffy has to fight her again later on.
Before I listen to this video I gotta say Big Mom took an L this chapter. My current head cannon is that Big mom is not intentional when she uses her Haki. The more enraged she gets the more powerful her haki becomes. Even with how mad she got vs Kid and Law she only used CoC on Page one and I feel that was VERY intentional from ODA to show us what Big moms about. This chapter implies to me that big mom is too reliant on her DF ability for Kaido to see her as a top tier. just my 2 cents tho

Kaido said that Luffy's weakness is still cutting attacks which is why he threw that barrage of those attacks into the sky at him and there is panels where he is bleeding from the attacks, his body didn't mold around each of those attacks so I think Mihawk is a bad matchup for him personally.

The conversation at 38:34 about Akainu’s magma. Haki is a massive defensive buff. We know WB wasn’t using haki or wasn’t using it to defend himself. Shanks used his sword to block Akainu’s magma fist. We’re not sure if he used haki but we’ll say he didn’t because it wasn’t stated. Shanks used a regular sword to block his magma fist. Law also uses his blade to clash with Doffy and then uses haki on his fist to block Doffy’s strings. Same strings that obliterated a meteor. So saying Akainu could just one shot everybody because he uses magma is wrong because one could use haki to defend against it.

I'm rewatching OP dubbed rn, and the whole arc that luffy is recruiting Sanji, the everyone is calling him " Chore boy" but it sounds alot like joy boy when you here it
This is why I like gear 5 and the fight with Luffy vs Kaido. For starters, Luffy did need to be elevated to a position where he could thrive endgame and by thrive I mean to actually effect changes in upcoming arcs. Gear 4 was not enough to do that, we already saw in this fight that Kaido can use some form of future sight. And lets be real, in the chapter where cp0 interfered in the fight, Luffy WAS NOT going to KO kaido with that damn attack. It was never an even clash as far as Luffy having a chance to knock him out cold. Next, Luffy's fights can be very formulaic to me. For the most part I am ok with it but there have been times where it gets slightly annoying. Luffy is the underdog, he gets stomped to shit, he either pulls some new move out or pulls some extra grit/resolve out and pushes through. Definitely a Shonen trope but that doesn't stop it from being eye roll at times. With gear 5 I literally DON'T know what Luffy is going to do nor do I know the limits of his capabilities yet and it is extremely refreshing. Maybe some people aren't noticing it but he has been tanking attacks from Kaido with apparent ease in gear 5. I think a lot of us have been slightly lowballing haki because of awakenings and users having multiple fruits. Kaido just stated that haki reigns supreme but we know that gear 5 also boosts luffy's haki proficiency in at least 2 categories, armament and conquers.
Kaido is really strong....some other anime lovers say thatkaido is weak and all....by this we can surely say he is strong as hell even after getting hit by luffy's awakening 🔥

Nah, Luffy doesn't have missing limbs or many broken bones. His rubber body's passives have always canceled out most physical damage not caused by blades.

The idea that the Scabbards, Supernova and Yamato have significantly done more damage to Kaido than Kaido himself has done to Luffy is just ignorant.
The attacks that took these guys out, mostly oneshots are the caliber of attacks that Luffy takes barrages of, while their amped with conqueror's haki as well.
The fact that Luffy is still standing doesn't mean he hasn't taken damage. It's that the damage that K.O'd Zoro is not enough to put Luffy down, that's how far ahead Luffy has gotten during this fight.
So, a dragon twister slicing off Kiku's arm and thunder bagua fucking up Yamato(a zoan) should tell you just how much MORE Luffy tanks, with the 3 realms Ragnarok among other destructive attacks. All that while, Kaido was dominating Luffy so he took very little damage from Luffy until their final fight where he "killed" Luffy(his snake man: hydra did damage). And even now, when he does take damage, he at least makes sure to trade in that moment. So Luffy hits him, and he immediately retaliates.
In that context, Kaido has taken FAR less damage compared to Luffy based on his stats. And Zoro has taken even more damage compared to Luffy based on his stats.
Meaning, on an attack scale of 100 and a defence scale of 500.
a 50 attack could do 10 damage to Kaido's 500, and do 30 damage to Luffy's 500 while it does 50 damage to Zoro's 500. On top of that, Kaido heals over time and Luffy heals with enough protein(meat) while Zoro is just fucked.
They are built differently, just landing many attacks doesn't mean you're doing damage, it's landing potent attacks that do damage.
That's why a SINGLE landed attack from Oden earned him a top 5 spot in Kaido's mind, while all the scabbards and Zoro's attacks, he saw them as mediocre. Even Zoro expressed his disappointment in how little his Ashura could do. yet, a single conqueror's haki uppercut punch by Luffy put Kaido on his ass and changed the way we saw that fight.
TLDR: - *Based on YOUR stats, you take more or less damage and since Kaido has a higher defense stat than Luffy while simultaneously having a higher attack, AND dominating all their fights until now, logically Luffy has taken more damage than him.*

MF shows the greatness of the WB pirates. It took the WG a whole scheme to combat them they had to plan the traps of the terrain to slow down the WB crew that wasn't a full strength (WB old and sick, Ace starved and tortured, BB missing, thatch missing). The commanders got taken down or stalled by characters that could fight yonko that being Admirals and Mihawk while Kaido's crew is having trouble with the Strawhats full alliance and Big Mom crew had trouble with a weaker version of the Strawhat crew partial alliance. MF felt fake some many people there not showing off their true abilities and many people there could have kicked Luffy off the island.

You have to think of the marines as one crew. The marines hold the power they have because of weapons and how massive the crew is. Not because they have the strongest members. The admirals and generals aren't unbaleavibly strong. There are just so many of them that they maintain power.
