Not sure if its an ethics class, common sense class, or an unindoctrinated class that needs attending with a passing grade. A basic desire to be fundamentally fair to all has to be a characteristic people can expect in officials. If not, then nobody can "expect" fairness initially and "oath of office" is under microscope.

Cannon should NEVER have been considered to Judge this trump case. No one is even talking about the clear conflict of interest, WHY?
If I recall correctly this issue was addressed and basically the way this circuit assigns cases is by a blind rotation and her name just happened to be the next name on the list to receive a case when this one was being assigned. Essentially meaning it was just a coincidence that she got the case instead of any other judges.
Now it's looking increasingly clear she is NOT an impartial adjudicator and is looking to be firmly in the pro-Trump camp based on her history of rulings in this case. Hopefully she more or less realizes the ethical and legal mess she's exposing herself and the country to and decides to start playing it straight- only time will tell but it's not looking good

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that Cannon is deliberately making these rulings in an effort to get herself thrown off the trial. She's enjoying the attention such a momentous case brings her, but she also knows that once it begins, she'll be exposed as a little leaguer going out to pitch game seven.
She believes that if Trump wins, she will be his next nomination for the Supreme Court. And she is almost certainly right. I think that's her only reason for her behavior. Pure ambition.

Call me old-fashioned but if I was proclaiming my innocence yet had a criminal trial hanging over me, it would be the most dominant thing in my world and I would feel that my life was on hold until things had been resolved one way or another, and I would want it to hurry up so that I could get on with the rest of my life.
On the other hand, if I knew that I had actually committed the crime(s) then I would be trying to drag things out for as long as I possibly could.

At the end of the day, he can act like a diva, but this is his fault for making the case so long and complex to where when he hands a law firm the documents it will take years for them to go through.
How would you feel if you got charged with a crime, and the case you had to defend yourself against was written by hundreds of government lawyers, the discovery given to your attorney would take someone a lifetime to read through. And the government says, no were moving ahead to trial even though no council in the world would be effective at rebutting the documentation?

This is different. Citizen trump will get the information at trial. These are incredibly secret information. It includes undercover people. trump's "rights" do not include making public undercover officers or secret information to the public.
He will have every opportunity to confront those witnesses in court. And to have a vigorous defense council to cross examine any witness on the stand. But let's say a big gang drug lord is on trial, and some of their members have decided to testify for the prosecution, but further criminal investigations are on going. About threats already made to those witnesses. You know like a crime spree that keeps going even after the boss gets indicted and is out on bail? So you're ok with enough info to identify them should go to the drug lord? Please explain how the allegory is not apt.

At what point is Judge Cannon liable for exposing witnesses to threats?
Judges have immunity. Just like the President does, too. So, never. She's never liable.

Neither do judges.
Civil liability for judges is still a thing though - they are not exempt from it.
@@TheDerlick Thanks for the reply - I can see why some form of immunity might be required for the system to function, but in a case like this it seems possible that needless - or even careless - disclosure could result in the death of a witness.

@SMF314 Ok, so in one situation, a witness may, but likely won't, die and the defendant's due process rights are intact. In the other, a defendant's due process rights are 100% violated, and the witnesses are alive just as they are in the first scenario. I'm sorry, but this was probably the easiest decision a judge ever had to make. She's way more concerned about being responsible for denying Trump his process rights. Come on.

O.J. Simpsons defense tactic was to go for a speedy trial and hire a dozen law firms to rush the government. Trump doesn't have to do that, he can have one law firm, and those attorneys can file motions that they need more time to go through the governments seven million pages of discovery. And guess what, the court will grant it because that is reasonable, and appropriate.

How come only the Feds can get secret witnesses?!? No other criminal courts can use secret witnesses.. it is a federal civil rights violation.. Defendants have a right to depose crooked witnesses on video to expose their agenda.. This happens every week in this country. Even dirty cops get deposed. I sat on various juries four times during trials, both civil and criminal....during my seven decades in NYC...Once enrolled in the process, I was numbered, not named. For my safety and impartial anonymity. It is standard juror procedure! Are we talking rocket science?

Judge Cannon needs to study law and procedure! Safety and security of witnesses, layers, documents must be protected on all sides or the judicial system will not exist.

Do you know the law? None of the whistleblowers from the FBI or the IRS were permitted to have their identities hidden. Where was your outrage then?
