@@hildxnie i don't speak chinese either, but i feel like generally it comes from the amount of anger the eng voice has? he seems more aggressive than necessary or fitting of his character. like the actor is trying hard to be forceful and almost bitter(?). this has led the english fandom to label him as edgy and mean when in other languages he's more soft and gentle. xiao's character in general feels more like the type to suffer silently, he treats traveler bluntly but kindly. also this is mostly my own opinion so i can't speak for everyone. in short: it just doesn't match the character and there seems to have been a slight misinterpretation along the way. voicelines themselves are relatively similar so it's about how the acting has been directed.
