I went to Boot Camp there... It's called Lincolns Challenge Academy. I was class 18-02. In that "chapel" - I got the same pocket Bible I have to this day... Crazy memories.
@@-ThePREACHER- I've gone back to visit some of the places I've been stationed at. Nowadays you can't get on base without being active, reserve, retiree or having one of them as a sponsor. Things change over the years, but yeah there are a lot of memories.
@@squibrail4014 No no no... They turned Chanute into a Boot Camp for at risk youth... Now 16-18 yr olds go there to prep for a career in the Military. It's one of the BEST programs in Illinois as far as giving kids with NO chance in life, a damn good one... Chanute was cool... They shut down the OLD buildings tho... Now they built a new one right on the same base.. It's PHENOMENAL... But - I look for ALL the videos of people goin there and honestly, from when I was there, till now... It's in a HORRIBLE state of disrepair.... The new building is nice tho from what I have seen... They still USE that base tho... just not for actual military. Honestly man - AWESOME video... and great effort into the details... Sad to see what's become of it tho... I'll be sending two of my daughters to that boot camp I went to over the next couple years as well. Then THEY can march up and down the street. Question - Was the "chapel" abandoned too? Or does it look like it's still in use? When I went back in 02' they MADE everyone go - every sunday. They didn't care about religion then either. You go - or you faced a wall for 11 hours. lol
I did a brief stop over in '73/'74....then off to the UK, RAF Upper Heyford....AGE....Where I learned Winter Driving by cookie cutting on the Taxiway....LOL....Returning to the US, went to Grand Forks AFB ND and got stuck in a "BB" Stacker Sqdn....then cross trained out into TeleComm Ops, Tactical....
I said BEQ when I meant GOB. Geographical bachelors. Married guys living in the barracks on base instead of with their family. BEQ was the acronym for the barracks for the single guys.
Oh my... In 1963, on the way to Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico, the group of Michigan Boy Scouts I was with from the Chief Okemos Council stayed at Chanute AFB. And from my reaction, in one of those brick barracks. We caravaned in 10 matching white Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagons. A matching white Olds 88 lead the way. Police escorts at some locations. Wild stuff for a 14 year old. Thanks for the trip back in time.
