  • Mucous membranes are a bit like the skin continuing inside your body. They have similar functions and line internal cavities that are continuous with the outside of the body.

So basically, if we didn't have nostrils, we'd be topological donuts 🤔😂

Rapid regeneration is an essential characteristic of mucosa.

So we were never truly inside our mothers. The endometrium is a lining to the wall separating her body from the external environment. We grow as zygote/embryo/foetus inside our own bubble. The blood connection we make out of burrowing into the endometrium at one stage sustains our development. That is the special connection we have with our mothers and the closest we come in life to being literally connected to another human (apart from conjoined bodies). Still, we develop in the space exposed to the external environment. Our mothers carry us. When we are born and the blood connection comes to an end, we can continue to sustain our development on her breast milk. That type of connection is no longer so certain and is vulnerable to many more external factors.

hi, do you have any 3d skull models sketches available so i can download them? Cross sections, whole skulls, bases and roofs of skulls, looking for anything like that. Also, you are an awesome human being and thank you for visualising anatomy for me.

Great topic! Are secretions governed by the nervous system or at the cellular level? In a disease like Sjogren’s is the damage to a facial nerve or elsewhere?
