    Man speaking a lot of truth. I'm currently retired due to disability. But I was one of those kids from the hood that managed to avoid all of the pitfalls that take us off the path. I graduated high school, college, etc. I was even a sales rep at a bank. If you don't know what that is it's the person that brings in revenue for the bank. I'm one of those people who as I learn things wanted to take them back to the fam. People always ask you how to do different things or want to run business ideas past you. But when you have to shoot down a plan or tell them why something doesn't work the way they think it does, they get upset and call you a hater or a sellout. This is even when you offer them an alternative to the plan they came up with or suggest that they take a class or get into a program that can help.
    You end up still trying to help these people that are calling you a hater or think that you feel like you're above them. But None of these people knows the grind of the dozen part-time jobs, grant applications, student loans, internships, and still carrying a full class schedule all while keeping the 3.0 or higher GPA you need to keep whatever partial scholarship you have. But these same people will want you to invest in their idea without wanting to do a fraction of what it takes to follow through on this idea.
    You can offer people opportunity, which is more valuable than money, and they will curse your name for not just giving them the money. The funny thing is once you fall off so to speak these same people will celebrate your fall and some will even love you again. Cold world bro. We have to do better as people.
    God bless anybody reading this.

    The late great R&B Icon, Record Producer, Musician Kashif's book is like a Bible to aspiring and existing recording artists and musicians. Gotta know the business.
    Loon is telling the truth about it all.
    It's also good to have an excellent entertainment attorney (outside) of the record company and music producers attorney. If certain recording artists did that they would have not been broke the first time around. Those recording contracts usually are designed to go in favor of the record company,record producers etc. Usually not for the recording artist.

    Having worked with several brothers in the industry when I was younger one of the things I noticed was most brothers were only interested in getting to the bag and getting famous…then when you try to educate young brothers about the business and how this is a process they would always look a away and say “yeah, yeah, yeah” and what that means is I really don’t want to hear what you have to say just help me make it…this is why so many black people fail in business is because we are always trying to find ways to cut corners, we lack discipline and we are unwilling to put in the work it takes to be successful…

    I owned a Takeout restaurant in Charlotte up until about 7mths ago. There was this guy who would come in and tell us his "woo is me" stories of being on Bad Boy and having bad contract. Whether true or not i never challenged him. My thing is you let whatever it was dictate the last 20plus years of your life. Contract or not, how do you use the contacts, relationships, knowledge learned etc moving forward. This guy clearly wasn't where he wanted to be in life but hell thats life..PIVOT! Life gonna have challenges you have to adapt. I went military at 17, did my tenure, became a Chef for hella years, now currently small % owner in Marijuana license in Maryland. I educated myself along each phase and work towards goals. Im done hearing Wyt people this, Wyt people that..blacks have owned property and been business owners and leaders since forever now. Loons character and perception of life you can tell is why he's in a good place after loosing years of his life incarcerated while others still had opportunities outside.

    He owns his publishing because there's no songs out of loons catalog that any company is looking to lease. Trust me! if he had material on Biggies level he wouldn't have no publishing.

      That’s not true at all Loon owns his publishing because his Godfather was a Hollywood executive who taught him the business. Loon wrote a lot of songs for Puff as well as himself. I Need A Girl 1 and 2 Loon wrote both of those and those songs get used in movies and tv shows to this day. Puff took advantage of artists who had no bargaining leverage during contract negotiations but Loon had leverage because he knew the business and he also had done business with Clive Davis who owned Arista records which distributed Bad Boy at the time that’s why Loon kept his publishing.

      Lol, He owns his publishing because he handled his business, period, you don’t have to sign a bad deal you know.

    • @willsalter8113
      @willsalter8113 Год назад +2

      Yes Loon handled his business but he had a leg up in the business that most aspiring artists don’t have. Most young artists don’t know about the business side of entertainment in the beginning, their just happy to be living out their dream and hopefully change their fortunes and the fortunes of others around them. It’s not until they start getting their royalty statements that start understanding the what they signed and the language in the contract. Most of them don’t have adequate entertainment lawyers to represent them. You see it in boxing with Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather and how Gervonta is upset the contract he signed. Most new artists have talent with no leverage and the labels can offer them a fucked up contract and they usually sign their rights away. If you have a buzz you can dictate terms. Look at 50 Cent he had a crazy buzz when you signed, he kept all his rights and got a million dollar advance. Loon knew the business and he had a ghostwriter before he started dealing with Puff so he had leverage unlike Ma$e.

    • @willsalter8113
      @willsalter8113 Год назад +2

      I meant to say Loon knew the business and he was known ghostwriter throughout the industry before he started dealing with Puff and also Loon wasn’t signed directly to Bad Boy. Loon was part of Harlem World and through that deal he got a songwriting deal with Arista the parent label of Bad Boy at the time. So Loon was doing business with Clive Davis before Puff.

    I think why some people don’t have much sympathy is because too many rumors especially those were in his own camp who say if brought this on himself. Some people have said he had a hand in Kim’s death because she was about to put out a tell all book before she, a healthy woman, mysteriously got the pneumonia that took her out. Biggie was on his way out of Bad Boy…right before his murder. So yeah, anybody would have sympathy for someone who went through these losses but it’s kind of hard when folks from your own camp is pointing the finger at you. Not saying at all that he’s guilty. Just saying it’s stories out there that leads back to him.
