Judging by the comments, there are a surprising number of nonfishermen who watch this channel. That’s the only explanation for why there are so many people surprised that some fish get off. Anybody that’s even done a moderate amount of fishing would know that’s inevitable. I think you’re an excellent fisherman, Nick, and not doing anything “wrong”. Love the videos
I love your vids!! I love that you show respect to ANY species you catch. My Dad taught me, a very long time ago, that ANY fish is a good catch. I don't know if you eat any of the fish you catch, but drum are quite tasty...take it from and old Iowa boy.
Landing carp can be tricky, especially without a net. I had one once that took off as soon as I got it close to the bank like 20 times before it tired out and I was able to grab it...man carp are so fun, very underappreciated and underrated fish.
Morning sections here I Australia r the bomb for catching that find of carp. So so much fun regardless how much of a problem fish they r. Head back to that spot on day brake and as the sun hits the water they will start feeding. Good luck
You kno what I've been watching you for a really long time and I think your one of the realest fisherman on here because you dont have all the fancy stuff and I can relate to u good job👍👍👍👍👍
That bell sound is pavlovian for me now. If I hear it I look around for my rods. I can hear a tiny movement in them and other people fishing with me won't hear a thing.
Good time to go out and target Carp, they are great game fish. Go out and fish for them they are always in shallows close to banks and the trees. They fight so hard, you will love it, specially if there is big ones in your area make sure to loosen the drag on your reel or they will rip your rod right out of the holders. Cheers
Good job. I have lost a lot of good fish and caught a lot of good fish. When you loose a good one dust yourself off and get back at it. That is what you did.
Fishin is heating up! And for the carp, use canned sweet corn directly on the hook. I’m an avid carp angler and most of the time, straight up corn kernels on the hook outfish my method lead and hair rig setups. Tight lines!
If you want to catch a common carp, use lure with strong aroma and it should sink quite low, they like to feed of the bottom of the river. They're fun to catch; big carps can take more than 15 minutes to tire down.
While everybody is bitchin' about your titles or choice in line.......I want to say thank you! Injury and age have kept me from the serious 12hr. days or slinging lures. You serve as an example to me of how to fish in a different way. How to find joy in every and any kind of fish you catch. How to enjoy fishing in ways that my lot in life has forced me to change and rediscover just what fishing is. I love your spillway videos. Every slip and fall. Every light line catch others can't stop complaining about.
Great video as always. I can't wait for you to catch a giant carp the fight is amazing there mouth is extremely sensitive so it's a challenge and long days are common but when u finally hook up with a big carp it's worth it. I suggest throwing bait balls 3 days in a row to establish a feeding area to get carp active in your fishing spot then on day 4 add a hook to a small bait and you will dramatically increase the odds in your favor . Either way love your videos and hope u hook up having fun is the real key looking forward to more vids.
Live the videos, really enjoy watching. Also I like the way u put up videos even when it's not a good day cause that's the way fishing goes. U could easily just post when u catch alot, but not the case. Keep em coming
I love to watch your videos. I'd love to go places like you do, but since I'm disabled, fishing spots have to be fairly level because I need a cane or a walker to go anywhere. I've found a couple of spots, but with the lockdown I have not been able to get my license.
Back in the day, we typically lost at least 1 bell a night...9/10 times they would be launched about 50 feet out, when we would forget to take them off before casting. :)
If you want to catch more of those common carp I highly suggest a kernel corn out of the can. You can also use feeder corn for livestock. Works fantastically in the early spring awesome video
Wow I can't believe you haven't gotten a common carp out of the water yet. Good job catching those sheephead though. Wait until that water slows down a little and I bet they stack up.
Great videos. I enjoy every day watching it. Soon ill start my spring fishing and hope for a good fun. Btw the music you use is great. What is it? Thanks
That was a great carp mate unlucky not to land it. I like your coiled rod holder I usually use a basic bank stick when trout fishing but I am going to get one like yours they are £6 to buy from eBay. Happy fishing mate.
hay nick if you want to have a ton of fun chasing carp find a slack water area and bait up the water with a can of whole kernal corn give it a hour or 2 and then small hook on a sliding carolina rig with corn on there.... you will have a blast
First time I caught I drum I didnt even know what it was . Day later in the same spot had a massive 20lb drum swim under me . Best bait for big drum I've used if fresh crayfish . Use a rubber band to hold the hook on the cray and let them walk around bottom
Corn works great for carp. They say every fish has a handle. The trick with them is to tire them when you pull them up wait till they turn slightly and take a breath opening their gills. At that moment shoot your middle and index fingers right into their gills one finger on each side and pick them right up!
I like how you don't discriminate on fish species. Even a drum gets you excited. Careful sticking your thumb too far in their mouth . They have surprisingly strong crushers in their throat. Thanks for the vid bud.
Ohh man the suspence gotta put stronger line i fish lite because of you n learned my lesson the 1st time and i dont loose fish on 15lb yozuri any more...
I caught a 7 1/2 pound drum in lake Springfield while crappie fishing on 4 pound test line. Took a good ten minutes fighting it luckily I was in a boat.
Gotta love when you keep dropping spillway videos makes my spillway video get views lmao 😂 I’m almost at 1700 views on my first Carlyle spillway video . Great video brother I don’t think I been to this spillway yet not sure where I’m fishing this weekend . Coffeen lake spillway is epic but you have to sneak in it’s off limits the creek goes way back I made a video there I was waiting for the cops to show up after I released the video lmao
If you really want to catch a big carp try using dog food that dried up starts or circles used dremel to make a hole in edge and placing 2-3 on hook, its a carp killer seems like carp like the smell My biggest carp was 8kg Hello from Croatia and good luck catching carp 👍
I go overkill on my catfish/bottom setups. Heavy Ugly Sticks, 3000 series reels and 30lbs braid. Of course I fish for food not sport. So I take as few chances as possible. Losing fish is super frustrating.
I love catching freshwater drum. Wait till you get one around 18"-22"" on; they turn sideways and will snap your line like nothing if you aren't careful.
ultrageneric what’s your bait/method of choice? Lately I’ve had good luck catching them in slack water next to current on a whole night crawler on a Carolina rig
@@618Fishing Pretty much the same setup as you; they seem to like crawlers over basically anything else. I fish them out of a river nearby me that's got a pretty lazy current and they seem to like mild drop-offs so I try to put my line right on the edge of the boating channel there. Roughly 4-6' of water I'd wager. They only seem real active when the water is below 65 degrees too; when it gets warm they dry up.
Yes they are. And they're good practice learning how to fight a big powerful fish. I catch 'em right here in the city river on a flyrod. Really helps to learn the capabilities and limitations of the gear you're using, as well as tactics to wear them down. It's amazing what a 6-weight flyrod with a 5x tippet can withstand. I see guys play a 13" trout forever, worrying they'll break off. As long as you tie good knots, you've got a lot of power in that rig.
I once threw my cast net off a dock after seeing one shad flicker on top. I caught a 4 lb bass, a 3 lb bass, three crappies over 14 inches and about a hundred shad. Unbelievable. There was a little kid watching , he said oh my God I gotta get one of them nets. Haha.

100% agree Shand!!
I love the spillway videos the most. I think the fish like that nice running water and most of the spillways look clean.
Great trip, Nick. Enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing/
I am totally addicted to these videos. They keep my fishing addiction satisfied until the weekend when I can’t get my fix.
I'm jealous! Wish I could get some fishing time in. Ty for sharing and great vid!
Thanks for watching!

I can't wait to catch that carp again. Have a good luck in landing fish next time!
Great video. You should try throwing a silly bugger on the fly rod in these locations.

I catch drum all the time love em
Thank god you posted another fishing video! You owe it to America to post at least one a day!
Lots of freshwater drum in the Saginaw & Tittabawasee rivers in Michigan. My GFs boy caught a really nice one.
Just spotted you on a slippery missile ad. Lol pretty cool took a screenshot shot of it to lol.

Carp r tough fish. Lake Ontario. Has huge ones average 20 pounds. I've landed one around 35 pounds great fighters. Great video.

Hell yeah bro
We called them Croakers in E Texas and could catch a ton of them on crawdads below Lake Navasota. Not bad eating.
Another spillway video? How DARE. You?! Bring it.
I like how you don't discriminate on fish species. Even a drum gets you excited. Careful sticking your thumb too far in their mouth . They have surprisingly strong crushers in their throat. Thanks for the vid bud.

Monsters of the Water thank you!
Thanks for the heart😀
Ohh man the suspence gotta put stronger line i fish lite because of you n learned my lesson the 1st time and i dont loose fish on 15lb yozuri any more...
You should get some corn and go after carp they are a blast to catch but make sure you go heavy on the tackle
I know it was your 1st carp but you can’t gill em out of the water. It will hurt them bad. A net is best. Always love your videos.
Carp are under rated fighters. Great video man hope you get your pb next time.
Danny Cal I hope so man! You have any luck with the catfish lately? Went out last week and someone said they caught a 56 knee out there the day before
@@618Fishing No luck so far. Got kicked out of LC canal on sunday. Police said no fishing allowed past spillway due to covid. lol
I caught a 7 1/2 pound drum in lake Springfield while crappie fishing on 4 pound test line. Took a good ten minutes fighting it luckily I was in a boat.
5 min ago it was a catfish rod, now its a carp rod lol
Try live crawfish on a Carolina rig for monster drum. Use your heavy catfish rod though b/c you'll get spooled or broken off with anything less.
Yea I’m going to send you some carp gear
Can't understand why anyone would give a thumbs down on these videos
I would suggest to use a bit heavyer gear like a carp fishing rod or something. But great Vid!!!
Nice video as usual. Btw get the net with you always to prevent what happened with the carp
Giovanni Rocca I was kicking myself for forgetting it that’s for sure! Thanks for watching!

The spillway at Rend Lake in Benton IL is usually pretty decent to fish, if you feel like the drive. Couple hours from you, I think
josh m been scoping that spot out on google earth for a while now.. do you fish right at the spillway or further downstream in the creek?
I like that place. A little hard to fish when the water is up high though
Reminds me when my 1st pike i almost caught broke me off as i had it on the bank
Have you ever went to the Alton dam on the Illinois side they have some pretty good drum there
At this point I’m expecting all the good fish you hook into to get off😂
My biggest Drum is 24". When they're that big we call them barn doors.
Great Video, but going fishing without a net is making life so much more hard. Sad you lost that pretty common
Well in Minnesota we call freshwater Drum Sheepshead or Shitheads and we use them for catfish bait
I feel much better about my own limited fishing abilities after watching these videos.
I've caught an 8 lbs freshwater drum before
Seems like spillways always have good fish
PJ Hubble 100% agree
That one time you don’t bring a net happens to all of us
For carp use cubes of spam fished over a bed of ground bait buddy
My wife caught a 3+ pound drum using a throw net when I was teaching her how to use the net to get bait fish lol
I caught a 30pound carp doing the same thing!

Gotta bring a folding net with you. You get one cheap on amazon and it weighs less than a pound and folds down to 24 inches long
Great video, do you still have your truck?
All these places you fish are local to me. If you wanna go fishing sometime. May be able to lead you on to a few good spots for some videos
