I perceived the situation differently. In my opinion, Rhaenyra acted as any mother would when her child is in danger. Did Aemond deserve to lose his eye? No. Should Lucerys be punished by losing his eye? Also no. He was a small child, around five years old, and believed he and his brother were in danger, so he reacted instinctively. At that age, children can’t fully understand the consequences of their actions and often act impulsively when threatened. Rhaenyra was tormented by Alicent for years. For example, she was forced to present her newborn immediately after birth, an immense physical and emotional strain. Her father didn’t protect her, even though he knew what his wife was doing. Unsure of her father’s reaction, Rhaenyra tried to divert attention from her children. Her actions were understandable. Her primary concern was Lucerys's well-being, and she did what she thought was right to defend him.This is my viewpoint, and I understand that others may have a different interpretation.
I don't question his love or devotion to Rhaenyra, but getting married to Alicent was the dumbest thing Viserys ever did.

But the heir to the throne knew her father was surrounded by vipers (Hightower).
The heir to the throne knew she should have been establishing her own relationship with the other houses of Westaros. She didn't reach out to the other houses until after Viserys died.
She didn't have any allies on the Smalll Council or any spiders to be her eyes and hears.
The heir to the throne should have known her dad was at death's footstep. Not knowing that lets you know she wasn't checking in on him.
She knew from an early age what the Hightower family was all about.
You can't have the King's family and the Heir's family all under one roof without causing more issues, almost all Targaryen heirs go to Dragonstone before they are crowned. And Rhaenyra and Daemon have 7 kids, no way they all can coexist with Aegon and Aemond after what happened at Laena's funeral. Also pretty sure Rhaenyra and Daemon don't want to be around Alicent all day

Viserys knew Alicent was responsible for Aemond reacting so terribly. Had Aemond not instigated or played a part in escalating the fight, Viserys would've judged differently. But he's seen Alicent instigate shit against Rhaenyra way too many times to know better. And he was right this time around too.
He saw that Aemond losing an eye was punishment enough for him. And Lucerys only tried to protect his brother and his cousins. Jace and he could've equally been injured had Luke not fought back. So Viserys can't punish them for that. Also Aemond claimed a dragon when he wasn't even allowed to go after it. Not yet.
But he saw that Alicent kept poisoning their sons with treason, so he thought this was punishment enough for her. So that SHE would stop, coz this is her fault. She raised her sons to be vile. If u don't believe that see how Aegon and Aemond behaves. The worst traits in them are enabled by Alicent one way or the other.
I love how Viserys never looked stronger than when he was the weakiest and walked to the steps of his throne to protect his daughter. He really shown that not even his physical condition would stop the dragon from protecting his blood

@@carastone3473 in every scene when Aegon and Helaena were young and the were with Alicent they were always crying and Alicent did not have clue one on how to comfort them while they were crying or fussing. In fact she looked like she would rather be anywhere else than comforting her own children. Now maybe that is due to Alicent not receiving the proper instruction on how to comfort her own children or that in losing her mother when she was younger, left her unable to offer comfort to her own children. Maybe Alicent's mother was cold towards her as a child. Since Otto's wife/Alicent's mother is not spoke of but in passing we will never really know but its abundantly clear that Alicent does not know how to comfort her children or show them love as Rhaenyra does her children. When you see Rhaenyra's children when they are very young they do not appear to be fussy or crying and in the scenes with Joffery when he was a newborn Rhaenyra is always holding him and comforting him. So I think that is the juxtaposition that the show is trying to make between the two characters.
The most heartwarming father/daughter relationship ❤️ he does love his other kids but he doesn't love them the way he loves Rhaenyra. Alicent made sure they hated her. He has a soft spot for her, can you blame him? He's human. He definitely thought for a long time she'd be his only child.

Alicient and Rhaenyra had made up until Alicient’s dad manipulated her and gaslighted her into believing that Rhaenyra would try to assassinate Alicient and her children. He quite literally pitted them against each other and played his own daughter for a pawn to his own advantages and benefits. He used Alicient as a piece of his game and conquest to power.
I mean, Alicient no doubt has blame of her own since she went around blaming everyone but herself for the fate that she herself chose, since she could have stood up to her father or to any other person who tried to control and use her for their own self interest, as Rhaenys had told her when they were alone in the room. But from the start, it was Alicient’s father that set her down that path and used her and manipulated her.
Even when Rhaenyra and Alicient had made up, her father swooped in and made Rhaenyra out to be the bad guy and gaslighted Alicient so badly into thinking that she would be in danger if Rhaenyra were to ascend the throne.
In the end, Alicient got manipulated so badly that she herself began to seek power and became just like her father.
He caused the chaos with his last words. -_-

Exactly! Like I understand he wants to protect Rhaenyra his chosen heir. But imo that wasn’t the most important thing at that moment. You child just lost his eye, and instead of actually dealing with that, he just yells about how they’re all family and wants the fighting to stop. That’s just causing more bad blood to circulate. He should give out some type of punishment/ justice(not saying it should be a whole eye for an eye but something I mean damn…he did nothing).

He threatened the entire room for calling his grandson's Bastards( which was nothing but pure truth) rather than attending to his injured and maimed 10 year old. His lack of judgement caused massive problems in the future, grudges were held longer than intended and dragons ended due to that very resentment thereby ending house Targaryen's glory.

This is all very touching, but this man killed his first wife, did not notice his daughter when she needed him and was a teenager. And then he simply crossed out his other children from his life, who were not to blame for anything. Only in being born. His son's eye was cut out, and he "educates" the yard, although everyone knows the truth and he does not even punish his grandchildren. Terrible... This man's decisions will lead to a sad end - the death of almost all Targaryens and all dragons.

His loyalty to Rhaenyra is wonderful, but he was so terribly wrong in this scene. All Alicent wanted was some retribution for her son. Did Luke also need to lose an eye, no. But he should have received punishment and instead he got off scot free. If anything, Viserys acted as though aemond had cut out his own eye. I can’t blame Alicent for being so angry during this scene
Imo, Aemond fucked around and he found out. He was the one calling Rhaenyra’s kids bastards and taunting the other kids for claiming the dragon that was supposed to be hers and then almost bashing their heads in with a rock when they hit him for doing that. Do I think Aemond also deserved punishment, yes. Do I think he deserved to lose an eye, absolutely not. Especially considering Luke got zero punishment which only further made him think he could do no wrong. Aemond by far is a worse person than Luke, but it does seem like both Jace and Luke felt like they could do anything and get away with it because of that.

I truly hate how much he mistreated his other children, but his love for Rhaenyra hits on a personal level. As a bona-fide Daddy's girl, it's a beautiful relationship to watch. I lost my father in 2003, so there are many scenes that had me crying. One of the best isn't the throne room scene. It was the scene between the two after she gave birth to Joffrey. The little kiss and hug between the two was so sweet.

I agree that Alicent got a raw deal and I even see her as a sympathetic villain…but in my book she is a villain none the less. She ensured her children hated Rhayneria’s. Because she was jealous of her. It doesn’t matter that Rhayneria’s kids were illegitimate the royal line is through her so they were targarians…Visarys I’m sure knew but the fact that he didn’t acknowledge it means he didn’t care. Otto is an unsympathetic villain but Alicent put her trust in the wrong person. And she always ignored or covered up the wrongs of her children. She knew just like Visarys that Aegon was the one initiating the bullying of his brother and she literally says it’s find to bully him as long as he does it privately. Aegon didn’t want to be king but she always pushed it. Aemond was so raw about not having a dragon because of Aegon because Alicent didn’t put a stop to the torment about it. Then Aemond steals a dragon on the night of his riders funeral and attacks the grieving daughters of said rider ans calls the princes bastards which IS TREASON regardless of if it’s true or not because she is constantly stoking a divide between the greens and the blacks which leads to an escalation in the fight; Aemond is about ready to KILL the princes when they DEFEND themselves and Alicent wants no part in admitting blame!

I think Rhaenyra is my favorite character in the entire show so far, I'm glad that Viserys always stood by her side. Even injuried and dying, he still managed to come all the way to the throne hall to speak up for his firstborn daughter. A father's love is powerful ❤
Viserys stupidity almost ended the Targeryen dynasty.
His entire claim was based on the realm rejecting a women to be the queen, Rhaenys had the stronger claim but was passed on for being a women.
He makes the very opposite that made him king and puts her daughter as heir. Causing the dance of dragons and the end of the power of the Targeryens their dragons.

My dad loved me the way Vizzy loved Rhaenyera, it really is something special.
And he abandoned the rest of his children, a great father to rhaenyra, a terrible father to the rest of his kids.
Having a father around is great, but it hurts 10 times more when a dad abandons a child in morality, justice and support in their faces everyday.
His first male would drink from an early age and constantly sexually assaulted women while being entitled and lazy. His second was a complete piece of shit. Almost like he wanted to be Daemon but didn't actually know how to pull it off. His other daughter was borderline mad and he couldn't give her the kind of attention and psychological treatment she would have needed even if he somehow had the knowledge while ruling a kingdom. On top of that he did have 4 children with Alicent not just 1 making it much more difficult to be a parent and a king. Rhaenyra was fucked over a lot growing up. He killed her mother, neglected her, took her only real childhood friend as wife and made them enemies in the process while constantly having out for Daemon who she was very close to making it so that Daemon couldn't be near her. Yeah, in his old age he likely felt bad for being the cause of all this crap in his daughter's life.

as a real Father should… i lost my beloved Mother when i was a child, just 2 months after i’d turned 10. my Dad became my best friend, my rock, my heart, my everything. he raised me entirely on his own from then on. he was my Mom and Dad. he was the best man and the best Father i have ever and will ever know. he loved GOT so much and we loved talking about every episode after it first aired. he passed away 2 years ago now and it broke my heart when this show came out and he wasn’t here to watch it with me or talk about it. he would have loved it as i do. when he got sick, i moved back in with him to be with him and take care of him. the woman he remarried and my 2 older brothers weren’t worth shit the whole time he was fighting for his life and dying even more than when he was healthy and alive, it was unreal, so sad, and repulsive. he and i actually rewatched every single episode of GOT together when he was sick and i will forever cherish this show more than i could ever put into words for giving me every single one of those moments and memories. he always had my back and was always in my corner and he stayed by my side for my entire life. and i, of course, stayed by his side until the very end 💔

And the age gap between her and Rhaenyra, they shoulda stick to the books, cause accuracy is key, at least for me... The only reason I am and will always be team black
