    Idles are incredible. Technically better than they sound, great song writing and amazing live - they also seem to be absolutely beautiful people. Seeing them cry on stage at Glastonbury was a truly wonderful moment that had me in tears. It's very subjective but I consider them the best "protest" band since RATM and the world is an infinitely better place because of them.

    • @vityamitya6354
      @vityamitya6354 2 года назад

      Public crying is a bloody good way to gauge someone's "beautiful"(ness) (whatever that means). They are also so "protest" so against the establishment that they all come from well established families themselves. RATM: "FUCK THE CAPITALISM!!!" also RATM: "BUUY TICKETS TO OUR SHOWS!!! ITS ONLY 50$!!!"...sooooooooooo authentic. Well i guess its almost 2022 now, all the words have the opposite meaning now

    • @SteveBjorck
      @SteveBjorck 2 года назад +10

      @@vityamitya6354 Judging someone by the life they were born into says more about you than them. We don't choose our families or where we're born but we can choose what we do with the life we're given. If white, middle-class men want to highlight injustice & inequality among the poor and minorities they should be applauded for it not mocked. It's almost 2022, people should know better.

    • @avaritiaetsuperbia
      @avaritiaetsuperbia 2 года назад +1

      @@SteveBjorck yes white middle class men need to help us colored folk. christ can your god complex be any more cringeworthy

    • @SteveBjorck
      @SteveBjorck 2 года назад +9

      @@avaritiaetsuperbia you've completely twisted what I said and turned it into a weird, white superiority thing.
      Here's an edited version of my comment which doesn't reference the band's ethnicity or background.
      "If *people* want to highlight injustice & inequality among the poor and minorities they should be applauded for it not mocked."
      Maybe that's how I should have worded it originally but I only mentioned the band's ethnicity and "class" because someone else used it as a reason for them not to be valid in their beliefs or actions. I did it to make a point that it shouldn't matter - which obviously hasn't translated well.
      FYI minorities include anyone denied the benefits of "the majority" due to their religious beliefs, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, gender, race or anything else.
      It's not about white people "saving" anyone. It's about people who "can" supporting people who "can't".

They started out with a fairly classic hardcore sound, but they’ve evolved A LOT, and their most recent album is critically acclaimed and arguably genre pushing. My husband is a huge fan - you've brought him (and I) such joy and helped drag him out of an awful trough of depression a few years back ... so thank you. I know he would love to hear your thoughts on Jeff Buckley's voice. I know. Sadly, his repertoire was cut short and unfortunately the name has become a passe catchphrase for teens who want to sound deep. Sigh. That's okay, too ... at least they're listening to music - and good music at that! For me, I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on My Morning Jacket or Post Malone or Leon Bridges or Empire of the Sun / Pnau. Maybe some of these are falling into the "dad" category. 😬 Thanks for these videos. It's great to see you thoroughly nerding out on the intricacies of the music. It's very refreshing - and educational!

    Idles are coming for us French people next august. They definitely have a knack for going on my nerves, so I guess they must be the punk, indeed! I liked The Darkness when their songs first came about on MTV etc but never owned their record or delved much deeper than having a mild appreciation of their talent as musicians (always loved the guitar solo melodies'). Since very recently though, after discovering 'Justin Hawkins rides again', I have started taking a keener interest and am pleasently surprised at how much enjoyment their music is giving me. And I've barely scratched the surface. Seen some live stuff on RUclips and they're as good as AC/DC, The Who, Queen, Foo Fighters etc etc. Even as good as Take That's cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit 😉

    Also I don't know if you read comments or take requests, but there's a great london-based band called black country, new road who released an album and a few singles this year. It's been nice to see a few great newer rock/punk/etc bands getting some popular attention lately. It does feel like rock music is rebounding in a way with even a lot of pop and hip hop artists incorporating rock elements into their music more and more.
    As far as rock bands that you might want to check out if you haven't already: For punk/punk leaning stuff there's Turnstile, Parquet Courts, PUP, Iceage, Squid, Fontaines DC, and Shame. For garage/psych and hard rock type stuff there's King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Thee Oh Sees, Sheer Mag, Ty Segall, and Japandroids. For a bit of everything else under the rock umbrella right now there's experimental rock bands like black midi, Black Country New Road, and Tropical Fuck Storm, there's some experimental metal/alternative as well like Deafheaven, Baroness, or Alcest, and even some traditional heavy metal bubbling up like Pallbearer, Eternal Champion, Spirit Adrift, and Unto Others. It's an exciting time to be a rock fan I think because it feels like we might be moving back to an age where guitar plays a more central role in popular music. Still a ways to go yet though!

    Can you talk about how you ended up in the Elton John Ed Sheehan video? I was excited to point you and your brother in the video to my kids! 🤘

    Not only are they a great band, personally Joy and Brutalism are my favourite albums particularly the tracks Mother, Samaritans and Television, but Joe is a really great lad.
    I met him when I moved to Bristol and didn't have many friends yet. His mates were at a karaoke at a local bar and let me hang with them, he then came in later on and was super friendly. He's a dab hand at singing some Frank Sinatra!
    That was before they broke big but were well known in Bristol and the surrounding area. They still have a reputation for treating their fans well.
    Sure you'd love them in person Justin.

    It would be cool if you showcased some unsigned bands or bands that are not from any major record label. There is so much talent out there in the UK and the rest of the world.

    Hello Justin,
    Australian band (Buffalo) from the 70's was such a underrated union,
    Songs like Sunrise I believe was ahead of its time,
    Much love from 🇦🇺
