Sott Media I’m actually glad it was changed. It’s a beautiful song and both artist are very LGBT positive. It actually made me smile that it was changed. I don’t mind the original, not at all,nor am I offended, I just prefer it this way! 😀
Nobody could sing this like Shane & Kirsty . You could see that in their own Irish ☘️ families over the generations they have seen these lyrics lived & played out and that shows itself in their voices ..
I always love seeing comments to covers because it’s always people complaining it’s not like the original, when it perhaps isn’t supposed to be like the original.
Ya finally did a Christmas track Ed....ya finally did one...I'm proud of you my little ginger, I know it ain't easy being Weasley, but you make it work
They both are awesome, but as everybody already said, nobody can beat McCall and McGowen‘s Voices in this song. But I love Ed‘s Christmas Sweater! This is the Way!
I can't stand it. It makes you realise how brilliant the original is, especially with Ed and Anne being such great singers. You just need the growl and grit to pull this off
Screw the people who say Ed shearen is ugly like he has one of the greatest singing voices of the decade (maybe even the best) and he looks fabulous, I’m not gay but he is an exeption
Well I for one really enjoyed this. It's lovely ♡ A cover isn't supposed to copy the original but find their own style, and they did that. Just like how you have metal covers of classical music and can appreciate the result of that, I wish more people would just enjoy that this is a sweet, cute version of a traditionally more...rambunctious song and be done with that instead of the knee-jerk reaction of BUT IT'S NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL!! You can both love the original *and* appreciate how different a cover is, you know? :)
There's putting your own stamp on a song and there's murdering a song. This is the latter. Why in earth would you do a "cute" version of a song that isn't "cute". It's patently obvious how fairytale of New York went straight over their heads. If you're going to do it, do it right. Take Sid Vicious doing "my way". That version, he made his own AND it worked perfectly. What they did was tweee. I thought he was better than that.
They ruined it. It makes no sense the way they sing it. The feeling and humour and adherence to real life joy and struggle was gone. Like everything else the music industry pukes out now
gosh it randomly popped up in my head after years!! like I forgot about this video and now I'm here back again oh yeah and I'm crying 😭💔 I used to have such obsession over this cover. I love Ed so much and now I'm sad it's not on Spotify
Ahh come on we all know there are better version of this yea it's one of my favourite songs like Christy moore and the pogues and others as rudi said but i thought this was cute but it's not meant to be cute but its nothing like Christy moore or the pogues yup the irish 🍀🍀🍀🍀
Jesus Christ. The first line "In the drunk tank!" - Shane Macgowan sang like he was right in the depths of the drunk tank, Ed Sheeran like he was in a beauty parlour filled with tweenage girls. The reason the Pogues are so good is that it's real. There's something flawed and human and fucked up. Once you take away the blemishes you take away the spirit!!!
Georgia They removed multiple words though.. but that's what happens when we live in a world where everything needs to be politically correct.. sad. ☹️
From Shane: "The word was used by the character because it fitted with the way she would speak and with her character. She is not supposed to be a nice person, or even a wholesome person. She is a woman of a certain generation at a certain time in history and she is down on her luck and desperate. Her dialogue is as accurate as I could make it but she is not intended to offend! She is just supposed to be an authentic character and not all characters in songs and stories are angels or even decent and respectable, sometimes characters in songs and stories have to be evil or nasty to tell the story effectively. If people don't understand that I was trying to accurately portray the character as authentically as possible, then I am absolutely fine with them bleeping the word, but I don't want to get into an argument."
Dear Peeps..If you don't like a cover, its not necessary to shame the artists..by comparing....I love it and they did a good job...and made a clean version just so that its playable in Christmas parties.. Ffs get a life
What a beautiful tribute. So many comments wail about the sacrilege that this version represents. If anything recreating the "original" grit sounds artificial to me, most of the time. So often this song is sung with a pretentious coolness that is the opposite of the depth of the original composition. The roughness of the original cannot be faked. The truth, on the other hand, lies in the deep closeness of the hearts of the two protagonists. And these two convey that in their own wonderful way.
This is great 🎉 but the roughness and the grit in the original can never be topped. You just can’t beat Shane and Kirsty’s voices. Also, what’s with the random jingle bells at the end?!😬
Ell Teey where did I say I didn’t like it? I love it - it’s great, just like all of Ed’s other music that I adore. I was just saying that there’s still no comparison to the original. That doesn’t mean I don’t love this version...

I see the lyrics have been politically corrected.
Have you heard the monstrosity that is the Ronan Keating version, it's like a virile stud has been neutered at the waist.
I noticed that, but in this context she isn't calling him gay, it used to mean something else, just like gay used to mean happy 😊
Georgia it's only homophobic if people thin it is
Sott Media I’m actually glad it was changed. It’s a beautiful song and both artist are very LGBT positive. It actually made me smile that it was changed. I don’t mind the original, not at all,nor am I offended, I just prefer it this way! 😀
Pathetic.
Nobody could sing this like Shane & Kirsty . You could see that in their own Irish ☘️ families over the generations they have seen these lyrics lived & played out and that shows itself in their voices ..
Anne-Marie is underrated.
Owen Simpson I can see why.
Jkinsg92 ehhh it'd be a pass from me
@ Owen Simpson What? You can see why she's underrated? What the fuck does that mean?
She sure as fuck murdered that song Sheeran wasn't anything better. He should stick to his own siily whiny songs.
Anne-Marie WHO?
Anne- Marie and Ed need to do a proper full covers of any song apart from just a Christmas song. I NEED TO HEAR THE SONG THAT THEY MADE
Its a good cover, but it just misses that ... roughness of the original.
They should do another song together good pairing.
I don’t believe it is a good cover
I always love seeing comments to covers because it’s always people complaining it’s not like the original, when it perhaps isn’t supposed to be like the original.
christmas is approaching😂😂😂
Listening August🤣 2019
Damn it boy same here.
Jeson and Shiela yayyyya
Ssssaaaammmmeeee AHHHHHH I CANT HOLD IT ANYMORE
Ya finally did a Christmas track Ed....ya finally did one...I'm proud of you my little ginger, I know it ain't easy being Weasley, but you make it work
Kalvin Wilkinson And he butchered it! Congrats!
Anne- Marie has a lovely voice,
I don't understand why she talks funny and does weird things to the R though :(
True
No
Great singer
That's why this version doesn't really work.
They both are awesome, but as everybody already said, nobody can beat McCall and McGowen‘s Voices in this song.
But I love Ed‘s Christmas Sweater! This is the Way!
It is a year from now and all I have to say...This is one of my favorite songs and they sung this beautifully
Gotta love Ed's Boba Fett sweater 😁
Woah! Anne-Marie & Ed Sheeran collaborating - My life is complete
Anjushree Verma they sang together before, check ciao adios with ed
They collaborated before
www.gofundme.com/Piano-Hospice
Anjushree Verma it not knew
She opened for him on tour
I can't stand it. It makes you realise how brilliant the original is, especially with Ed and Anne being such great singers. You just need the growl and grit to pull this off
Screw the people who say Ed shearen is ugly like he has one of the greatest singing voices of the decade (maybe even the best) and he looks fabulous, I’m not gay but he is an exeption
But... he IS ugly. Don't get offended by facts. The world is full of uglies, myself included. We have a voice.
@@betamusic5487 that’s your strange opinion
Ed Sheeran is the greatest! I remember when I use to see him before he was super famous at a show called the Sunday Show.
Phills Lifestyle well done you, almost as if your his best mate, in a way :)
2 GD
Thats funny lol.
This will be his down fall , he is a fucking idiot to go near it , typical English arrogance
taxusexpress ah yes the English, the people who don't have an orange for a president
Well I for one really enjoyed this. It's lovely ♡
A cover isn't supposed to copy the original but find their own style, and they did that.
I thought he was better than that.
im just loving the boba fett christmas jumper! what a guy!
Now i am 100% in Christmas mood💙🎄
This is so beautiful I can feel the Once Upon a Time feeling
Look at the original
They ruined it. It makes no sense the way they sing it. The feeling and humour and adherence to real life joy and struggle was gone. Like everything else the music industry pukes out now
I love the fact that all the Irish radio stations and TV's hate this, like I’m Irish and this is ruining the song for me.
I know right? Since when has 'gal' been a substitute for 'slut'. Since when has slut needed to be substituted?
Hello you same
yup ruining it too for me
and arse that doesnt need to censored thats not really a swear word, also its a traditional song they should leave it how it was
What's you being Irish got to do with it?!? The Pogues were English. The original is better though.
My neighbour's cat is making these sounds when another cat dares to cross their garden...
It’s not the same without drunk voices and shouting at each other out of tune 😂
This version is still good though 😊
I love the way how ed says ,,ha ha ha"😂
No one gonna talk about how he suddenly transitioned to f*ckn jingle bells like wtf
These two are slaughtering such an iconic song please someone ban this from any form of airplay 😢😢😢
No one gonna talk about Ed Sheeran’s boba get Xmas jumper
Ed!!! Weird as it may sound, I need an Original Christmas Album!!!
Josiah Shillow No. Not if this is what he has to offer.
Beoga are absolutely fantastic
gosh it randomly popped up in my head after years!! like I forgot about this video and now I'm here back again oh yeah and I'm crying 😭💔 I used to have such obsession over this cover. I love Ed so much and now I'm sad it's not on Spotify
Who's here listenin in 2019 🤣
Not me. 2020. Best year of my life!! 🌲🎄🎄🎄🤩🤩🤩🥇
This was great version loved it..makes us appreciate our version even more though..Ed Sheeran would agree 💯 I'm sure..
Such a great version, I know Ed sheeran ain’t Irish, but he certainly knows and compose the music to Irish music. Welldone xx need this as a track x
Durch solche Coverversionen stärkt man nur das Orginal, den die Pogues machen den Song einzigartig. Auch ein Ed Sheeran hätte es lassen sollen.
This song needs to be sung by my drunk uncle and his flavor of the month girlfriend.
You’ve just made me realise it’s 6 days to Christmas and I have a responsibility to find a girlfriend and sing this to my niece and nephew.
I might be your uncle.
everyone slagging this cover off...its a good cover. Besides the original, name a better version
Ahh come on we all know there are better version of this yea it's one of my favourite songs like Christy moore and the pogues and others as rudi said but i thought this was cute but it's not meant to be cute but its nothing like Christy moore or the pogues yup the irish 🍀🍀🍀🍀
The longest John’s cover is my personal favorite.
Tom fun orchestra version
Don’t work right, the passion and pain of the original is what makes it the best Christmas song
this version is too perfect. There are no half-drunken men playing the accordion just a classically trained professional.
And that is what makes it not as good. This needs Shane's drunken growl and the drunken playing
As a high school teacher who loves the original, this is the version to share with students.
@@ashleyduprey965 good point
thats exactly why its rubbish. it has no charm and is just plain boring.
His voice though 😵🔥
Jesus Christ. The first line "In the drunk tank!" - Shane Macgowan sang like he was right in the depths of the drunk tank, Ed Sheeran like he was in a beauty parlour filled with tweenage girls. The reason the Pogues are so good is that it's real. There's something flawed and human and fucked up. Once you take away the blemishes you take away the spirit!!!
amen, especially when they try and make it less offensive lol
This sums it up 👌
Correction, shane wasnt singing like he was in the drunk tank. He in fact was in the drunk tank haha.
Rory White I can't agree more, I'm 3rd generation Irish and for someone reason, Ed has made it too good its bad.
He made its sound as if he was an angel from the drunk tank.
I'm all for avoiding offence but this is a classic and the lyrics shouldn't be sanitised IMHO.
oh whoops - your opinion is not important :)
Because of when they broadcast this live they obviously can't use the original words...
I agree, they shouldn’t censor original content it loses the meaning of the song and the album as a whole
No. Sorry, but this is a slippery slope. Sing it as it is written, or cover some other song.
Bollocks to avoid offending the fangirls will never say anything sheeran does isnt good. It's shit, end of story.
2 amazing voices and a great cover but this is one of the few songs that is impossible to cover and be anywhere near the best
This would have been 100% better if they were allowed to keep the original lyrics
Georgia They removed multiple words though.. but that's what happens when we live in a world where everything needs to be politically correct.. sad. ☹️
lol no
From Shane: "The word was used by the character because it fitted with the way she would speak and with her character.
F@#$ yes.
Of course Ed does it in an xmas jumper 😂
Love Ed Sheeran but gotta say in this case i prefer the original version
It´s a good cover but I agree that the original is better.
This one is to. Timid
Dear Peeps..If you don't like a cover, its not necessary to shame the artists..by comparing....I love it and they did a good job...and made a clean version just so that its playable in Christmas parties..
Ffs get a life
Protect Ed Sheeran at all cost he is too pure for this world
We don't have christmas here but man this makes feel like i should go out, get a tree and start decorating.
H Styles This makes me want to listen to the original to cleanse my ears.
Gives Ireland a great way and also proud of being irish
Nah mate this cover is an insult of the highest degree to any irish person
Irish fam
Deacy _ if that was true than why do you like the British version
What a beautiful tribute. So many comments wail about the sacrilege that this version represents. If anything recreating the "original" grit sounds artificial to me, most of the time. So often this song is sung with a pretentious coolness that is the opposite of the depth of the original composition. The roughness of the original cannot be faked. The truth, on the other hand, lies in the deep closeness of the hearts of the two protagonists. And these two convey that in their own wonderful way.
We all just gonna ignore Ed's Boba Fett Christmas Jumper with Mandalorian insignias on the sleeves?
I just noticed that too!!!! :D
cutterchaz yeas we are dickhead
This is great 🎉 but the roughness and the grit in the original can never be topped. You just can’t beat Shane and Kirsty’s voices.
Also, what’s with the random jingle bells at the end?!😬
Lauren This is not Shane its our eddy if you don't like you can listen the original
Ell Teey where did I say I didn’t like it? I love it - it’s great, just like all of Ed’s other music that I adore. I was just saying that there’s still no comparison to the original. That doesn’t mean I don’t love this version...
No one gonna comment on Ed’s Boba Fett Christmas hoodie?! I want one
i cant help focusing on ed's lovely christmas jumper. this is the way.
