Yeah...Idc what anyone says Omar Little is absolutely one of the greatest characters in all of Ficiton. Michael K. Williams deserves every single one his flowers 👏
@@monadreher2428 I am convinced that Omar was not originally meant to be quite as prominent in the show, but Michael was just great at rounding him up and making him so memorable and likeable, to the point where the show has to remind us here and there that he can be morally ambiguous. Like that great scene he has with Bunk earlier this season. Of course, that Omar can be a bit of a hypocrite actually makes for a better character . But Michael K Williams does deserve a lot of recognition for being so essential in making Omar become so iconic.
@@thegrimner Yep correcto friend. Similar to Breaking Bad Jesse, Omar was supposed to die not too long after his introduction but the test audience liked his character so much, combined with Michael K. Williams' performance that the creators decided to keep him alive. A very wise decision on their part as Omar was as original as you could get back in the day when this series first came out. No character like him had existed before (and arguably that sentiment still remains strong) and it's no mistake that he was given some of the most "entertaining" storylines and moments throughout the entire story. Not to mention what he represents. Unlike almost all the other characters Omar does what he wants whenever he wants and follows his own principles. One of the best wild cards ever imo.
Episode features one of my favorite character moments: Avon gave Cutty a walk when he quit because of who he was and his reputation and past service. That was enough to have more integrity than most anyone in his line of work. He didn't take it personally and he still appreciated him for who he was. And then he gives the guy 15 k later in the season for the same reason. Scene is really important as it leads right into Mozoune squeezing him over Stringer. Avon first tries to cover for him, then tries to buy Brother off... finally he gives him up, because he has a legit beef.
Ah yes. Stringer's infamous villainous breakdown. Love to see it. The balcony scene with Stringer and Avon is easily one of the best in all of television idc. There is so much going on in that scene. From the excellent callback to their moment together earlier in the season when Avon comes home to the dialogue and energy between the two in particular their very last words to each other, everything was just perfect. Stringer and Colvin meeting in a graveyard was also spot on fabulous symbolism. Carcetti and Colvin meeting was also great and it's interesting seeing Carcetti's (another "reformer" like Colvin and Stringer) take on everything and what he decides to do going forward. Johnny is a character I find very much annoying (although I wouldn't say more than Ziggy Sobotka) but his character arc is actually very much quite sad and I'm glad you called him tragic because he very much is so as he clearly has no hope for himself as he has accepted the fact that his role in life is to be a dope fiend. He has been utterly consumed by Hamsterdam and is very much content with it. That's why this show is indisputable to me when it comes to being declared the goat. Even minor characters have significant meaning to their story arcs no matter how basic or insignificant they may appear to be. Beneath the surface Johnny's character arc matters, he as a character matters and The Wire makes sure to illustrate that once you get the full picture more and more. Way down in the hole indeed.
Best episode of The Wire. Also my favourite episode of television probably. I could write a whole essay on why this episode is so masterful. That opening scene with Omar and Mouzone is so incredibly written , and it’s SO western inspired. It’s like an old western stand up in the ghetto of west Baltimore. That last talk between String and Avon is just about as good as writing gets … they both betrayed each other , but they don’t know the other one has too , and they both know it’s probably gonna be the last time they talk, but they don’t know the other one knows that as well. Brilliant writing. And of course that last scene ….”Well get on with it motherfuc-“ , is one of the best deaths ever! Brilliant , and little can top this. There are a few more wire episodes I think that are close to this , but this stands alone for me as the best!
My favorite subtle detail in this episode is the nod to D’Angelo and his chess analogy. When Stringer is shot and killed. Omar attacks him from a diagonal position similar to how a bishop attacks. Mouzone attacks down the stairs and over reminiscent of how a knight attacks. The queen is trapped with no where to go and the king stay the king.
My favourite episode in the whole show. I love it from beginning to end especially the scene where Avon shuts down Stringer's request to kill Clay Davis, it shows the beginning of the end of their partnership
I just got through watching Season 3 for probably the 8th or 9th time (I watch the entire series every two years or so) and Stringer's death still affects me every time. This is the best episode of The Wire and one of the Top 5 episodes in TV history for me. It's right there with the best episodes of Breaking Bad or The Sopranos. Flawless writing, flawless acting. Season 4 is excellent also, so you're in for a treat if you keep going.
When I first saw Stringer die I thought the show was over, like how could they kill his character so soon, and that’s just letting you know that the show is bigger than Stringer Bell
Didn't watch yet - I stopped everything for this episode - I know you're gonna be.... blown away Post-watch. Yea, my ex was so devestated by the results of this episode. "I don't wanna watch anymore if he's not in it" hahaha
@@noahzynski The sad thing is, idk if you caught it, when Brother Mouzone came to Avon, he realized what String did (Prop Joe's product) and he tried to act like a business man to save him. Mouzone shut that down.
@@noahzynski questioning Stringers death. I know we can name the reasons for it, but I'm going to school you. Omar is a StickUp but is known on the Streets as a MURDERER and Gangster. Brother Mouzone is a contract Hitman. MURDERER. In the streets the Pimps, Drug dealers, Thieves, Conmen, etc. know to stay away from The killers if you're not discussing death.
This episode was positively Shakespearean. I love Mouzone and Omar together
Scary duo lol
The opening scene with Omar and Brother Mouzone...some of the best writing out there
Loved it!!

Top 3 Wire episode for me. Stringer's death was so shocking first time I watched.
Truly crazy!!

Is that something they intentionally did or is that a fan theory? Either way that’s awesome!!
Not confirmed but the theme that every piece matters and the amount of “blink and you’ll miss it” details. I like to think it was intentional

Avon totality didn’t want Stringer dead but he didn’t have a choice
Yes you can definitely feel he was hesitant but it needed to be done I suppose lol

You have absolutely no street sense. The Stuff Stringer was doing, he lucky he lived this long. In real life Avon would have killed him a season ago.
