🎹 Thankyou, Alan, for this Clip of my all-time favorite soprano, Birgit Nilsson. I was privelaged to hear her 'live' many times over the years. It was always thrilling.
I once met Birgit Nilsson at a book signing. She was so pleasant and full of humor. I asked her to autograph her memoirs and, when I added that it was my birthday, she nearly levitated and signed a beautiful inscription. I still have it framed in my house.
She ALWAYS had powerful high notes that could pierce the air over ANY orchestra - and she proved it once again with that INCREDIBLE last note!! Just magnificent!!!!
So she held the note longer, (after he had done it on another night) that was what I had heard, and now she mentioned it and he walked out on her!!!! Hysterical.
I saw her sing Tosca in 1974 complete, great big voice and she only used the big voice with good taste, excellent and not upstaging anyone, unless they messed with her first!
Thats humility what a ainger and what a human being just tremendous why is that all great persons display this quality of generosity whilst mediocre persons tells how greta they are ....Birgit must have been tremendous fun to be around.
At first, the host came across as a bit nervous, but I would take that any day if he asks good questions and seems inquisitive about things he doesn't understand, inquisitive regarding tidbits of information that he's heard and wants explained, and does so honestly and to the best of his understanding. Usually, hosts ask kind of senseless questions, for a sensationalist effect. But you can tell this guy is genuine, matter-of-fact and wants to pry as much factual information as possible. I would go so far as to say that under the circumstances, and comparing to other similar settings, this is the best interview I've heard in my entire life!

I heard her in a concert performance of "Salome" with Solti/CSO. And yes, her high notes floated over the orchestra. Gave you goose bumps.

La cantante lirica che adoro di più, il mio mito.
