      What? It was only in service for 9 years (during which time it barely went to sea) and it was already a knackered rusty junk pile.

      Much better than the Chinese PLA Navy 1st Aircraft Carrier in which they Refurshed from Russia too 1998 from Nikolayev Shipyard Ukraine.

    the same was with the INS Viraat and Vikrant...all refurbrished and took more than 10 years to be delivered and many red tapism are involved. Its best and better when India built its own Aircraft carrier

      Sevmash in Russia can build large numbers of ship than the Nikolayev Shipyard in Ukraine

    100% agree with ur statmnt. But it takes time to do that, till then countrys maritime interest would be left vulnerable..INS virat has completed its service and is about to be rested. INS vikrant is fully operation only by 2018(if everything goes right) so till then country will not have aircraft carrier. It is wise decision 2 buy vikramaditya because 70% has been renovated so almost new ship. and it comes along with years of russian experiences in ship building, we can learn few things from it.

  • @darkon112
    @darkon112 14 лет назад +2

    @abh3092 Of course but a brand new carrier still wouldn't cost below 4 billion this day and age let alone two carriers even if it was made in India. I don't think you folks realize just how much a work and money it takes to build a carrier.

    @TSR1989RN The engines and much of the wiring would have to be replaced... which is no small thing. However, if the Chinese feel they need units at sea sooner rather than later-then this type of refit MAY be something to consider. But, the legnth of the refit process would have to be sped up considerably to make it worth while/cost effective. Probably not possible. However, I am impressed at the number of aircraft carried-despite being a bit crowded. Something to think about.

    We should have built another vikrant class aircraft carrier instead of buying this Junk

  • @abh3092
    @abh3092 14 лет назад

    @darkon112 ---it depends from where you are purchasing, since cost of living and wages are exponentially low in India henceforth an aircraft carrier can be made cheaply

    @TSR1989RN BTW-I am NOT saying STOBAR can go toe-to-toe with CATOBAR. However, five STOBAR carriers would be more than enough to cause a massive slowdown in any US regional response... and could cause India pause about any potential cutting off of Persian Gulf oil. This does not mean the PLAN could "win" any conflict with the USN or India. However, it could have the effect of political deterrence by raising the costs and stakes.

    @darkon112 ---dude we just built a 2000$ car and a 35 $ laptop,dude this will be built within a budget of 2-3 billion as the ship uses indigenous materials,also the ship will be launched in april 2011

  • @KarthikSoun

    @darkon112 What about the America class amphibious assault ships, they only cost 2billion a piece and they are brand new!! I dont think even the IAC Vikrant class carriers would cost more than 2billion. This old rust bucket is a rip off and not to mention the Mig-29K is unsatisfactory in performance. The Russians have cheated the Indian Navy in broad day light.

  • @KarthikSoun
    @KarthikSoun 14 лет назад +1

    @TeslaGenius2 I am actually against buying from the US. I rather buy from Russia but this particular deal is so messed up that its annoying. Moreover our indigenous Aircraft carrier only costs around 800million to build. I am all for India-Russia joint R&D and production like the Bramos and Pak-Fa.
    Either way those Amphibious assault ships are as big as our carriers, the only difference is that they have hover crafts in the hull too.

  • @rajendrasavarkar3130
    @rajendrasavarkar3130 12 лет назад +1

    China actually depends mainly upon Russia for its jet engines and even Radars i guess....Russia has inherited much of the expertise of the erstwhile Soviet Union obviously....and it is still a force to reckon with as far as military hardware is concerned......as Indians its pretty good fortune of ours that a reliable and powerful Russia has been our best friend for all these years ......and we shouldn't let this relationship get affected by our increasing closeness with the USA

  • @KarthikSoun
    @KarthikSoun 14 лет назад +4

    @TeslaGenius2 Anyone who has self-respect and values their foreign policy wont buy goods from USA. They come with more strings attached than a double decked piano.
    Yes Russia and India need each other now particularly when China is copying Russian technology and selling them cheaply in the market. Thats mainly becoz Russia is corrupt and falling behind in technology that the Chinese are able to copy it.
    Where ru from? Ru an Indian too?

  • @KarthikSoun
    @KarthikSoun 14 лет назад

    @darkon112 For Americans standards it is an Amphibious Assault ship, they only consider the 100,000ton ships as carriers but for the rest of the world it qualifies as an Carrier and is about the same size as the Gorshkov.
    About Mig-29K.

  • @darkon112
    @darkon112 14 лет назад

    @KarthikSoun The key words are amphibious assault ships and not a carrier.
    "the Mig-29K is unsatisfactory in performance"
    Oh, haven't heard anything about that ? Can you give me a source about that ? If it's from an Indian blogger then don't bother.
    The Su-33 certainly would have been a better platform for a navel fighter but they've stopped the future program.

  • @darkon112
    @darkon112 14 лет назад

    @KarthikSoun There is more to a carrier then it's tonnage. And 2 billion is an estimation, likely hood of America class costing 2 billion is small. Every new toy for the American's this day and age ends up costing more then it was estimated by the contractors. Look at the F-35 for example and it's cost is still rising.
    Thanks i'll read the link later

  • @KarthikSoun
    @KarthikSoun 14 лет назад

    @darkon112 The cost escalation holds true for Aircraft development but not so much for ships. Even if the tonnage is comparable i would rather go for the America class which also offers hover crafts for landing! Our own Vikrant Class destroyers cost only 800million to 1billion and it is almost done with the launch postponed to 2012. Moreover Americans are way ahead in schedule when it comes to weapons delivery.They r delivering the CJ-130 ahead of scheduled time.

    It is much better for India Navy Acquired these Kiev Class Half Cruiser and Aircraft Carrier from Russia which under SLEP Program means Service Length Expansion Program . One sample of the SLEP is the US Essex Class Aircraft
    Carrier the USS MIDWAY and its Classes of Aircraft Carrier they expand the Flat Deck Runway just like the India Navy 1st Aircraft Carrier INS VIKTAMADITYA

  • @darkon112
    @darkon112 14 лет назад

    @abh3092 For 3 billion 2 aircraft carriers ? You couldn't get even one for that amount ..a single aircraft carrier cost tad bit more then 3 billion.

  • @mattmatt115
    @mattmatt115 12 лет назад +2

    No kidding huh? It makes me sad that it is for India and not the Russian navy
    I wish they would have kept and refit 3 Kiev's into this design along with buying up Varyag hulk and expanding Russian facilities to accomodate the construction and completion of a vessel that size. Potentially Russia could today have had 5 aircraft carriers
    Now it's too late for Varyag, Baku/Gorshkov, Kiev and Minsk =(
    Novorossiysk suffered the most terrible fate

  • @cirvine11
    @cirvine11 13 лет назад

    @TSR1989RN Once Shi Lang clears the dock... they will have space for further refits,... and the trained personell to do it. Besides, the PLAN has on eye on India as well as the US. There are reports the PLAN has two Kuznetsov like carriers under construction. IF the two remaining Kiev's are refitted-that would/could give the PLAN operational 5 carriers within the next 10-14 years. This would take any WESTPAC scenario out of the tacticle realm... and into the campaign realm.
