    I'm not Muslim (or religious at all) but I have huge respect for people who choose to live their life in accordance to their beliefs. What you are doing is amazing, it's so valuable for non-Muslims to be able to learn about Islam from people who live it rather than the islamaphobic propaganda spun by the media

    Dina nailed it when she said parents have the old mentality. Times have changed, but our parents are still behind. Shock factor is needed (i.e. police) to convince parents that their children are not dumb bafoons who'd accept violent black mail etc.
    I think we should all respect our parents as much as we can, but this is our lives we're talking about. For me, to live in an arranged marriage with someone I'm incompatible with just to fulfill a 'promise' is terrifying, cause you'll always know it's gonna be like this till death, LAME.

      +Shifa Afrin , I am a Muslim myself. You´re totally missing the point or you´re ignorant of "Muslim" countries or even Islam itself. There are reasearch that says that non-Muslim countries are more islamic (following Qurans texts of human rights, politics etc) than those countries who are called Muslim country. Fact is that in "Muslim" (still not all) countries the culture seems to be in a bigger role than religion. Like in Saudi, tell me where in Quran Islam forbids woman of working, driving a car and _forces_ then to wear hijab. And there is a lot examples of other "Muslim" countries too.

    no I'm with Sid on this. It was a forced marriage, which is islamically invalid. There really is no reason for them to be together. Unless it still somehow did work out which it didn't, she's been trying to make it work, he obviously isn't interested & that's not fair to her at all, she doesn't need this. She deserves to be with someone she's compatible with & that can love her.
    But 100 agree with the rest, your general view on forced marriages & backwards mentalities. That's some sick shit.

    • @saffy119
      @saffy119 8 лет назад +5

      Exactly. Both parties didn't consent, therefore making their marriage invalid. They truly shouldn't have to make something of a marriage they didn't want to be part of . A divorce is the best solution.

    I 'm from Europe and Christian, my first marriage was emotionally forced by my mother because she thought what will people in our community will say and everything was set up, she told me there is no way out. I lived in it for 2 years I was miserable, depressed some of the nights I was sleeping on the couch. The marriage became emotionally and physically abusive and when I stopped caring what other people in my community think I got a divorce and now I'm getting married to a person I love and I'm happy...

    You covered so many serious topics within this video in such a mature and sensible way.
    I'm not a Muslim nor am I Asian and being an outsider looking in, i've always found it to be quite sad when people are pressured into a relationship. If you want your parents to choose your partner, fair enough. However, for those that don't, what happens when the woman has children and every time she looks at them, instead of feeling joy, she'll look at them in sadness knowing that she never even wanted to have children with that man?
    As Sid and Dina said - Do the right thing for you!

    This case is not an arranged marriage, it was a forced marriage. There is a big difference and I feel the distinction was not made clear in this video from the offset. Being emotionally blackmailed into agreeing to marry someone is still forced, not arranged. Forcing someone to marry is now a criminal offence in the UK so anyone involved in a forced marriage or knows someone who is, please seek help and contact the forced marriage unit.

      Not just the men but the women to, and not just from Pakistan but from all over the Middle East. So be careful of who you think you love or that you think will be a possible suitor for your children weather that be boy or girl. In fact I would recommend only asking them to marry someone from the uk or EU or the western countries you live in. Never force your child into doing anything, because they will never really forgive you and you will ruin their life. Causing more shame on your family than if you refused to get them married to their family.

    I'm just watching your videos because I want to educate myself about islam from someone who is actually a muslim, because I feel like there's sooo much islamophobia around me and it's just a thing that people don't even realize that they're being islamophobic, it's just an accepted way of thinking and I hate it. I want to correct people around me but I don't actually know very much, so I want to know. And so far I have learnt what I think is really important, that islam and the culture in the countries that are islamic, are two very different things. But I kinda understand the people who think the way they think because they don't have the knowledge, or they think they have but they are actually wrong. They just hear these things from other people and they read the news about these horrible things, terrorism and all that, and that's what they ground their "knowledge" on... And usually they don't even know anyone who is muslim or have never heard anything about islam from a muslim

      If you don't want to hide cutlery just cause a scene at the airport before you get on the plane then you'll get taken away and can let the officers know what's happening. I know it's not the best thing to do but once your in the foreign country there's no going back.

      Yeah but calling police on your parents i can never do it and even if i did call them or the airport stuff i don't think anything will happen i would just disgrace myself and my parents and hurt them real bad which i can't do and my parents have accepted a proposal for me which i don't want i have been fighting this fight for almost 3 years now... My mother's dibeties is out of control because of it i just can't give in right now i have stop protesting i am just making dua i don't want to marry that person but i do want to get married real bad

    • @ABirdOnTheMoon
      @ABirdOnTheMoon 6 лет назад +5

      Nashea Rehman You have to have power and you have to get that from God. God never want you to marry someone forced or to be less of value that people choose for you and control you! If you believe in God, you believe in your freedom and in your choice!
      No one has a force over you but God. I will pray for your strength and trust me is it your destiny as a God loving muslim person more important or the culture and parents?
      If you know this is wrong and you do it, you are doing wrong to yourself. You have to get power to refuse and never be in that marriage. Find ways to say no and if you said no while at home, prepare to hell: because controlling parents don’t care for your feelings or what you want nor love you! They want the end for them! They want themselves to shine and be the parent’s of the bride and that’s it. Love isn’t control so don’t think it’s love.
      Please seek help and try to stop them. Don’t do it and say what you want. I am sorry you have to go through this but God wouldn’t leave your side and as long as your beliefs in him are bigger than your fear from anything, you will have a way and life will unfold.
      If your parents are very bad and extreme, police must be called. Do you realise you where not raised by loving caring nor Islamic people? Try seeking a good religious figure, find someone who will stop this and can talk your parents out of it.
      If you live in a community where men or parents have power or your children has no value or love this is even the worst scenario because then only help is seeking law and police.
      Work fast and ask God for strength and power because in this earth, humans are powerless in front of God. God never want you to be forced, aimless and trapped or feel controlled. These are all results from your parents coming from wrong and no parenting or loving families.
      My mother is the control unloving and hateful person in my life. It’s a challenge to accept that we don’t always have good parents. My mother bad side win over her good and I don’t speak nor communicate with her and see her but rarely. She also shamed me and tried to bring hell on earth but I knew I should speak of my truth and it’s not right. My father was always on her side but it changed after years! I lived with them for awhile while opposing especially because I was in arrange engagements twice and I unveiled hell of information behind my mother actions that I simply had to leave home. I don’t belong with her and I know she brought me to life and I hope God will see her well and treat her with kindness in the end day. You should focus on God and your part of life but not on the events of life or what pleases who.
      If your parents are wrong or bad they are not to be obeyed before God. I saw it as I am doing myself bad thing and God clearly say not to do so. Respect your parents for doing their best to raise you and pray for God forgiveness for them. Not everyone knows God or Islam and sometimes people don’t even care.
      My mother didn’t and she will do what pleases her and use God or religion to be right or to get what she wants. Manipulating religion is so bad and not knowing the truth is a curse in my opinion. Don’t go anywhere unless you agree and please seek help and ask God for guidance.

    I think many people especially Muslims prefer to act like our communities are so perfect and everything's fine and peachy. When in reality it isn't we face issues such as adultery, drugs, alcohol, porn, racism, mental illness, premarital relationships, abuse and other things. That people prefer to ignore rather than discuss and try to put an end to it. I feel like people need to wake up and stop turning a blind eye to these type of issues. So thank you Sid and Dina for discussing these type of subjects that are often unspoken about in our communities.

    • @smartipants123

      +Zainab Mirza Arranged is when parents FIND someone for you and you say yes or no.
      Forced is when parents CHOOSE someone for you and you have no say.

    • @ShakirahIbaad
      @ShakirahIbaad 8 лет назад

      I had an arranged marriage and it was not force, is more like an introduction. It's often the only option for observant Muslims that don't want to date and possibly fall into something considered sinful Islam. Forced marriage is coercive and can be violent, it is abuse and has nothing to do with a normal and freely entered into arranged marriage.

    • @maz4488

      Watches that! It was so disturbing! But some of the story want really very realistic... like most of these forced marriages in the UK are not between two British people, but between a British person and one from another country that wants to migrate here. But generally did a goodish job of showing the pressure placed on parents that they then transfer to the son or daughter in question.
