As a genealogist of over 50 years of research (I started when I was 11), I have found primary source documentation for descent from dozens of clans. The difficulty I have is trying to decide between two patterns that are similar (like Kerr and Ulster, though the second is not a clan). USA Kilts has helped with all the excellent representations on their site of the tartans available. The artisans at USA Kilts have provided me with six kilts (with another on the way) to represent my clan heritage. The other five from USA Kilts (with one on the way) represent in a more general way (German Heritage, Nova Scotia, etc.). My personal wishlist has 17 more tartans including a couple of Welsh ones. I took the dive a little over a year ago, and lay the blame on Rocky, Eric, and Mac for their videos which is how I discovered USA Kilts in the first place. Their passion is infectious! I figure that I'll be able to keep USA Kilts in business for another couple of years! :-)
I had a grey and a black utility style kilts and was looking for a 'proper' plaid, sewing shop near me randomly had some tartan fabrics come in and they had a cool purple one. The universe gave me my tartan when I needed it :-) Odd not having the pockets but not an insurmountable problem.
At first glance I thought of Thompson but It looks like a weathered tartan and while I am not normally a fan of those it does have a nice colour palette .
Seeing my family Tartan on proud display over Erik's right shoulder but no longer being able to order it in a sport kilt from USA Kilts just kills me. I bought one from you guys years ago and I love it. It's the only sport kilt I own. It's nice to wear when I don't want to wear a full traditional kilt. I wish I could get another one from you guys but you no longer offer the sport kilt in Sutherland tartan. PLEEEASE bring it back! It's a Scottish County for goodness sake. LOL
Sympathies, brother. Sadly, there is only one mill that produces the PV cloth we use. We refuse to use acrylics or other nasty blends. So...we sometimes get skunked if that mill discontinues a tartan. We DO keep a running tally of tartans people ask for. Occasionally if there is a clear demand, we can make a deal with the mill to do a run. Gather the clan if you can!
I’m glad those hardy Pennsylvania alligators are in a secure pit! I hope they never get out and run amok! They’d hide in the snowbanks in winter and grab kids on their way to school…. 🐊 🗻
Love swatch books! I would make wool quilts out of the fabric.

Thanks for the kind words, Pip!

2:20 That´s me!! So many tartans appeal to me. So I´m thinking to start with a utilikilt, green or black.
What's that tartan immediately over Rocky's left shoulder? The tan looking one

Henderson Weathered.
When you make these videos do you each choose outfits to compliment each other, or is it just random?
It's completely random. 😁
@@usakilts Thanks - random is often better than arranging everything, more personal.
I know my four choices

The serial kiltler has a book to choose his next victim.
