Now, in Canada, England and Australia - I think “British” offshoots? - a “life” sentence is 25 years I think. Paul Bernardo got “life” but he was labeled a “dangerous offender” (DO) later, something Canada added later when they finally realized evil guys like Bernardo existed. Ahem. But I think if you’re a DO you can still apply for parole at 25 years - and every two years after - although you probably won’t be let out if you’re a schoolgirl-killing thug. But in reality the US has gone this way too although not “officially.” At some point we will and it will be a very bad day when it happens.
It used to be the case that a suspect, in this position with this type of solid evidence, would just plea out. It gave leverage to prosecutors to avoid trial but guarantee a killer did serious time. It was a “win-win.” Kind of. But it sounds like this went to a jury trial, they found him guilty, and then in sentencing he got 25 years max. That would’ve been an old plea arrangement in earlier days. But my gut is telling me he should’ve gotten 40 firm, at least. I guess a judge, instead of giving “life,” can give a certain number of years and add, “And No parole,” which is better than “life” because it guarantees a minimum sentence for that guy to sit in an 8 x 10 and think about what he’s done.
How on earth is 20-26 years possibly considered as a life sentence?🤦🤦🤦😭

Who/how do these sentences get decided? why only 20 for cold blooded murder.
He doesn’t deserve a life. She was such a beautiful girl, so sad.
The boss should also sue the guy for the trauma he endured
He should also sue his parents for telling him the Easter Bunny was real too
My heart breaks for Jamie's parents but also for Jacob Spray's father. What a horrible position to have to face and yet he did the right thing.
Stay single ladies
My condolences ❤
How horrific
What is the point of interviewing these grieving parents ? This garbage should never happen show some sensitivity and empathy....
Wow as if making her get a divorce wasn’t enough. That’s so shameful as a woman.
