So much here! I was born and raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and while that church no longer practices polygamy, it is still taught as a true principal of God that He uses when He needs it for His purposes. A few years ago I started questioning my faith- and the LDS history surrounding polygamy was a big part of that. I was shocked when I learned that at no time had God actually commanded polygamy. Fast forward to now, and I've stepped in to a more real relationship with the God found in the bible. More than polygamy or any other issue, the catalyst for this was the doctrine of undeserved salvation by grace through faith. The story of the woman taken in adultery is such a good example of God in the flesh "not condemning" a person who deserved condemnation, and not because of anything she had done to deserve His forgiveness.
I too was L-dS. God gave commandments that approved and regulated. The only people he specifically commanded to live polygyny were Hagar and Hosea. The issue with the woman at the well story is that there is no evidence she actually was an adulteress. It was thy lying Pharasees that made that claim. And even if she was guilty she couldn't be condemned because there were no witnesses and the adulterer was never brought. If Jesus condemned her it would have been a miscarriage of justice. The message of this story isn't overlooking sin, it's about maintaining the precepts of Law.
Why did God call judea and israel as his two wives if he is against polygyny? If God is against polygyny then why did he not say to any polygynist a single word that he he doesnot like polygyny?, but he blessed them all. Why did moses practice polygyny and regulate polygyny when God doesnot like it. Is God confused or the church leaders confused? Nowadays men like adultery and prostitution and that is why they are against polygyny. Polygyny is expensive while adultery and prostitution are cheaper.
Polygamy is a problem for harmonious living: 1. jealousy between wives, 2. Lineage equity (treatment of children, inheritance), 3. Worship of sex (another god), 4. lack of peace in the family, 5. multiple conflicting life-style agendas, 6.frequency of sex per wife (favorites), 7. Expensive lifestyle houses cars food education etc 8. I can only see polygamy as beneficial providing labor necessary to run the family business (farm), Be fruitful and multiply, a man can multiple more times per year than a woman, therefore having many wives / concubines means many progeny... which means powerful societal dominions
@@waneframe Actually it improves the ability to obey the first command--"BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY" So you are speaking the truth that Obedience is NOT a sin! It should be promoted as obedience to Gods command if you have the money and patience for 5 to 20 wives!!??

@@michaeleasley5019 it’s isn’t a sin it isn’t stated nor does it contradict anything. The most that you can say is that it doesn’t aline with good principle but that’s almost completely opinionated. In Europe where Christianity began they were a monogamous society so ofc they saw polygamy as bad. If it began in an African society the perspective of polygamy being a sin would be quite different. When the religion went from Judaism to Christianity, laws weren’t the center of the religion it became more of what’s within your heart. It’s one thing to follow rules but it’s another thing to have a moral compass that you follow. There are a couple of situations where u could probably coin the participation of polygyny a sin; law of the land, the principle of being loving to your wife, and the church having authority to make acts become sin.
Polygyny is Not a sin and nowhere in the bible it is said to be a sin, rather it was regulated and practiced., it is church who calls it as a sin because they are after our money
So according to the explanation I'm also not allowed to have more than 1 horse? Cause I believe the passage was refering to being (vain) like other nation, and not so much the quantity.
Two different issues. God warned Israel's kings not to multiply horses and chariots so as to depend on their armaments of war, rather to depend / trust in the Lord. cp. Dt. 17:16. Sadly, Solomon and others did indeed amass large numbers of horses and chariots cp. 1Kings 4:26. Moral of the story, you can have as many horses as you want (and can afford to feed and care for). But I might suggest you avoid chariots. The require a lot of storage space.
Not two different issues. If a man cannot have multiple wives because the kings was commanded not to multiply wives, horses, gold and silver. Then logically a man cannot have more than one horse, nor can he have more than one piece of gold and silver.
Practically every case of polygamy in the bible resulted in disaster. So, God did not have to issue a punishment for polygamy because polygamy comes with its own built-in punishment.
This false statement about many wives at one time for a husband ending in disaster has been pushed and promoted as the propaganda it is. God never said it was wrong or condemned the marital practice. Without question the Hebrew people were a polygamous people. The Bible describes Celibacy, Married to one Wife, and also the law given to Moses gives instructions if a man takes another wife. "Thus says the Lord". It's simply another form of marriage. Paul says it best. If you get married there will be trouble! Please remove the personal opinion and emotions and teach the scriptures according to what the word of God says. Our culture has turned something that Almighty God had influence on and built his own family Israel and has twisted it to promote it the contrary just like the symbolism of the rainbow. Please don't let someone else think for you except the Holy Spirit. Trust Him He will lead you into all truths!
Do not bring God into the matter of marriage. No wife will ever want his husband to bring another wife. Will a husband agree if his wife wants to bring another husband? So for a healthy family life stick to one husband and one wife.
The wife is not the master of the husband, so she doesn't eat to command the husband not to have anotehr wife. The wife having another husband is adultery (Lev 20:10)
There is no scripture that tells us monogamy is God's plan and design. A marriage covenant consists of one man and one woman. But men can have more than one marriage covenant.

Having multiple wives isn’t a sin. If so then how is it.
