Tropical Storm OPHELIA Floods North Carolina 9/23/2023

Tropical Storm Ophelia is finally exiting the Carolina coast this evening, but leaving a trail of major flash flooding in its wake. Greenville, NC, home to East Carolina University (on a college football game day) was hit especially hard as a combination of storm surge and flash flooding ripped into the area causing flood gauges to sore into "Major" flood stage. Vehicles were moved from their resting spot, water rescues were conducted, and multiple residents had to be rescued as their road from their home was cut off.
Several students rushed to their vehicles in the local parking lot as waters rose so quick it trapped their vehicles in the lot. A couple drove out, up through the grass and back onto the streets instead of risking losing their vehicles to the rising waters.
