It pains me that Ronaldo lives his life thinking football gave him more than what he gave football. The pace, the power, the stupid haircut, his imperfect teeth, his short but glistening career, the world cup performances, he's given everything. I watched him play when I was 6 randomly on the telly during the World Cup. Didn't know the sport, my family didn't watch football and I had no clue of football as a sport but I remember this memory so vividly, watching this player dance on the small TV screen my family had with me sitting right in front of it with my eyes glued to him. After the match ended I remember for a few days begging my dad to put on more football, conjuring the words and explanations out of thin air because I didn't have the vocabulary, I'd run about pretending to dribble like r9 with an invisible football just so my dad knew I was asking him to put on some football. And we he turned on the TV and Brazil wasn't playing and r9 wasn't playing, he couldn't work out why I was upset. Didn't know the scores, didn't know the players, I just loved the guy with the stupid haircut. I was only 6 at the time but those early memories of football have been with me my whole life and watching this documentary was almost like therapy, time travelling back to that moment to relive it. R9 is in the history books forever.

I remember 2002 very well, he just came back from his 2nd knee injury. Missed an entire year of football. Truly a redemption for all times. He was under immense pressure to win it and had terrible injury problems going into the World Cup. And, of course, the iconic “half moon” haircut 😀
Ronaldo had this mystical hold over football. He won less at club level than Messi or the next Ronaldo, but his "aura" was unique. It may have had to do with the specific time period, the embryonic state of the Internet and the absence of social media, plus the ubiquitous and clever sponsorship (who can forget the Pirelli advertisment with Ronaldo-Jesus over Rio) but it was all very true. If anything, his injuries only strengthened his legend. His solitary season at Barcelona (96-97, won Cup Winners' Cup and Copa del Rey), his first season at Inter (97-98, won UEFA Cup) and first season at Real Madrid (02-03, won the league) were his best at club level. And the 2002 World Cup was beyond epic, a personal redemption so complete that not even Ronaldo himself could have dreamed (and it all felt so right).
Tbh it’s much easier to win at club level now than back then . There are only 6 teams realistically that can win the continental trophies year in year out due to finances .
Wow I remember i was 12 years old, summer of 1997-1998, I went with mom to buy my scholarship stuffs, books, and notebooks, then i saw a notebook, with this guy on his tape, R9 Internazzionale de MIlan, then there was no weekend without getting up bed early to watch him play, playing football in ny school, being part of local tournaments, imitating Ronaldo all the time, then after his retirement I'd lose attention on football, it was magical, I was a brazilian adopted citizen at korea-japan 2002 WC, I remember myself on the gym improving my legs muscles, just because i wanted to be like Ronaldo, I remember myself running a 100 metter contest just to meassure how fast could I be at that time, I remember shaving my head because of him, thats was truly amazing moments, and I still share.youtube videos on Facebook just to tell younger boys who was him, not Messi, Not CR7, only RONALDO EL FENOMENO. Thank u for this video.
He's career may not live up to his talent but don't get me wrong, he still had one of the most extraordinary story. Its like if your going to make a movie about a football player, Ronaldo's story is the one to look up to. A promising talent at a young age, go to Europe and became the best player in the World, winning trophies and invidual honors. Then came the 98 World Cup, the perfect stage to become a legend. He didn't disappoint as he clearly performed to the highest level, helping his country to reach the Final. Then from that moment, he's career turned up side down. Poisoned, didn't performed well and eventually lose the final. Then two grueling injuries that made him sideline for almost two years. Then came back in WC 2002, Scoring a staggering 8 goals to exorcise his demons of 98'.... There's only one Ronaldo!
Let's get one thing straight: his club career didn't match up to his talent. His first four years in club football were as good as anyone. International wise, Pele is the only player who might have had a better international career. In tournaments where he actually played, his teams made it to the final five out of six times.
What does this have to do with Messi or CR7, who by the way aren't the reference point of football. Internationally speak, they're both quite average compared to Pelé or Maradona. Fwiw, I think Messi is a special talent, up there with the best of the best. CR7, to me, just doesn't have the technical skills of the best players that played the game.
Oh Ronaldo, so many memories rush into my head now. Where should I ever begin? From the moment I knew you in WC 98 or from the countless playstation matches I won playing with you. I still remember the year 2002 because of 2 incidents. Me and my dad watching the WC together, match by match. The oh, the rush and the pleasure we got from watching you. This same year, after you butchered every rival team and lifted the cup, my dad died. I now have 2 memories where love and joy, sadness and sorrow mix up. Thank you Ronaldo, thank you phenomenon.
J Thorsson I agree to an extent with the kid you were debating with. Whilst not winning the champions league doesn't mean you are bad if he was good enough then Real Madrid or Barca would have signed him.
+24magiccarrot sorry brother... I know for sure that you doesnot know anything about football...RONALDO R9 IS GOAT...there are several reasons I could explain to you..but idiot like you will not able to understand...that is ok for me..because I know You are messi and cr7 genrational fan...where only these two monster have no competition apart from each other...but remember the time period of RONALDO R9 When player like zidane, del piero, totti, thierry henry, pires, nedved, trezguet, rivaldo, ronaldinho, beckham, gerrad, lampard, ballack, klose, maldin, nesta, stam, kaka, robeto carlos,f.cannavaro, ferdinand, petit, overmars, viera, van nistelrooy, anelka, owen, alan shearer,berkamp,giggs,scholes,crespo,etc..and many legends more..even defending level is so much high at that period of time...and todays defender is laughable..apart from two to three real defender.. I cant remember any great defender in todays world...so its not about goal scoring my friend..because if we judge on scoring level only..so you thing cavani is better than zidane or maradona? Its about overall perfomance... I am not saying scoring is not important...but it is only one part of the game...so my friend do your research...in my eyes both messi and cr7 even they will score around 1000 goals but they are not as great as zidane or maradona or any other great legends...GROW UP...
The Legend....not just insanely gifted as a footballer but he had unbelievable drive and mental toughness to keep coming back from the injuries and set backs....for my generation he is the ultimate footballer...there is almost something mystical about Ronaldo....El Phenomeno!
I use to play football growing up and every time i dribbled someone friends said loudly , and here is Rolando .... His name was everywhere, unstoppable, he showed up in the right place and the right time , golden era of Brazil the best of all time in my opinion ,
God, I remember watching him for Cruzeiro back in 1993-94. He was only 16, and already unstoppable. If it wasn't for his injuries, there wouldn't be any question of who was the GOAT.
drjones he really is. Amazing considering he has been world famous since he was 17 and was thrown into the spotlight at 16. He is a true genius and very very likable
Best attacker I have seen and without doubt the best game too. We in Brazilians will be eternally grateful for their strength and dedication to a country like ours that has serious difficulties. Thank you for being a great inspiration and undoubtedly one of our greatest legends. Thank you very much phenomenon
There's only one original Ronaldo and he's from Brazil he was a defender's nightmare his gold scoring ability can't be match am so happy to see him play I will tell my son about him that he's the greatest footballer I've ever seen one of the greatest striker that God puts on the football pitch Brazilian Ronaldo the original no carbon copy the original.
I remember watching this in Kenya during '02 WC when I was 9 and I vividly Senegal Beating France with El Hai Diouf, Saudi Aracbia getting dominated by Germany and Turkey being actually good.
Fantastic documentary! I loved it. I was 8 years old in 2002, my memories of this entire saga are a bit vague and cloudy. I remember trying to wake up in the middle of the night to watch the matches (Japan's timezone was a challenge lol). I am not sure, but I think his second goal against Germany is my first actual memory of him. He was an amazing striker! We have yet to find another 9 like him. Great video!! =)
I remember sometimes I would skip school so I could watch him and Ronaldinho play ahh magical. I’m crying because of those lovely memories as I write this lol!!
Many people do not know much about his talents as social media was not so developed at his time.If he had not faced these problems we would not be able to imagine the level he is in today....best player of all time. a legend... "phenomenon"💪
I actually met him personally when I was a Kid, he was playing for my home town team, Cruzeiro, and was fixing his car at a workshop near my school. I remember dozens of kids running to meet him, he was 16 or something, and a very humble guy. Back them I wasn't that much into football, even though I supported Cruzeiro, but after that I start to follow his career. Sadly he didn't stay long in Belo Horizonte. Ronaldo always received so much coverage from Brazilian media outlets, so every kid my age was able to follow his career with easy, and could feel a little bit of desperation with all the injuries. In 2002 I was 17 y/o, and the whole WC was a special moment for me. The WC Finals happened to be the same day I made out with my first love, for the first time. Nowadays Ronaldo became a sort of a shade figure, involved in politics and questionable business, I usually disagree with his political points of views, but I do everything in my power to detach the Man he is today from the Player he used to be. As a player he was, and still is, my hero!
2002 World Cup final was the first time I watched a proper football match. It made me fall in love with the beautiful game. Thank you Ronaldo el phenomeno for makingme fall in love with football, the greatest sport of all time.
kwstas kwsta 23 years watching football? Interesting... 94 mate as 18 year old, he was part of the squad, them as 22 year old ballon d’or winner played in the final, and then as 26 year old with 8 goals in 7 games he won it again
He gave football and his whole generation so much! I remember watching the final and my team losing against him. But I was happy for Ronaldo my favorite player since 96. :)
My love for football started with Mr Luis Nazario Da Lima Ronaldo. The greatest ever striker of all times, if not the best player. In 1998, i was 10 years old, I remember crying in my bedroom and praying to God that Brazil losing to France was a nightmare. Was so heartbroken not seeing play for few years and then in 2002, bingo!!! History. Even though he came back and won, he didn’t have the same pace, power and explosiveness. He was more a clinical scorer. And then he signed for my dream club, Madrid! Oh my God, the best ever!
manchester united players used to sing "there's only one ronlado"..... and they're right. there's pnly one ronaldo. he was born in rio de janeiro. all the others are only cristianos.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the worst divers of all time. He is a cheater who is also inspiring younger generations of footballers to cheat just like he does. The world of football would be better without him.
My childhood has disappear 🥅 Oh fenomeo fenomeno, You are the reason im still playing GOD has blessed us to be able to see you in this lifetime, what a great teacher you were, you regenerated this game, Luis Nazario for ever gratefully memories.
Ronaldo symbolizes a person who defeated himself! To achieve victory,it was necessary to overcome his mistakes, injuries, the pain of despair, defeat and destruction of hopes. Ronaldo, conquering himself, the greatest man!!!One of the greatest players in world football of all time!
As everyone is saying this guy was a pure magic , what makes him special that beside his skills, he touched us emotionally, he's smiles after he scores and his passion for football, it sad when he touched us in our heart and then forced to retire because of injuries, we will always miss you on the pitch.
I started playing football was in 1998...the reason i knew football was ronaldo...the reason i started play football is also because of him...i knew ronaldo first then football
That was beautiful.I love Brazilian football since i was a kid and the 1994 world cup when they beat Italy in the finals. My country (Serbia/Yugoslavia then) who was called "European Brazilians", wasn't playing because of sanctions even though we had an amazing team, but we all cheered for Brazil.I loved Romario+Bebeto duo back then and later fell in love with Ronaldo, Rivaldo, R.Carlos and Ronaldinho.
I missed school, lost jobs and girlfriends for watching him play any regular match on TV, I watched most of them until his first injury. He was true a "Fenomeno" inside and outside the field I never heard that someone could walk after his injury. Majestic experience of life following his career. 0 regrets about the damage I did to myself. Best player EVER!
“I think football gave me so much more than i gave to football.” What a legend. I miss him. And ronaldinho. Brazilian football is something special and beautiful. He is definitely the goat. And ronaldinho ❤️
i havnt picked this magazine up for months.. defo my favourite magazine over the years. shame on me for not knowing they had a RUclips channel. Good stuff
Greatest striker of all time. My generation is very lucky to have seen this phenomenon and other great players like Zidane, Ronaldinho, etc. And I’m sorry to see this generation only focusing in only two players missing a bunch of good players also.
El Fenomeno is the best ever in my eyes. I just wish he never had those injuries you can imagine what other great stuff we would see from him. But to come back after those serious injuries and to win and play great just goes to show you what a special talent he was and what a strong minded person he was to come back and play at a high level
el fenomeno R9 . you are the reason why im wearing number 9 and im a basketball player. i did have the same injury as u (patella tendon ruptured) which i fully recovered from.and you are a big inspiration to me. i loved watching you play and i still do
his desire to return after the injuries is like something out of a film, lazurus from the death. and he seems such a nice man, i think people and fans of a certain age will always identify with him, his story rsonates with us. im 49, apart from maradona, the best player of my life time
Donskoy brasil I’m not saying O’Neal is the best player on NBA history, but on his prime he was unstoppable because of his gifted combination of skill and unmatched physique...nobody could stop him under the rim. He was as dominant like no other player in NBA, pretty much the same as Ronaldo on his prime years, when Ronaldo accelerate is like a Ferrari, so much power that no one could stop.
Awful comparison given that Ronaldo is one of the best technical players football has seen since Maradona. He just happened to be big and fast. Basketball is a different sport, but there was nothing technical about Shaq; he was all power.
Steeve Cantave Shaq is not only a physical force, he is also a very gifted player, his post moves are elite. Maybe u don’t know much about basketball, it’s sure u don’t know nothing about the game since u just said that O’Neal was dominant because of his physique. Both Ronaldo and Shaq had an privilege physique that added to their skills resulted in a superb combination of power, strength, talent and skill. And the point is that this combination make them absolutely unguardable for any defender on the world at the time. Ronaldo couldn’t make goals like he scored to Compostela and Valencia (when he was playing for Barsa) if not were because of his insane power, pretty much the same with Shaq on his prime with the Lakers. Shut up if u don’t know what are u talking about.
A true ambassador of Football, a winner, a fighter, a team player, genuine dedicated and role modelabout whom we can tell kids, - watch him and learn. This video makes me cry. 💕 Phenomenon 💕

Thank u for this video.
it's a great story!
There's only one Ronaldo!
edgar panganiban It would be a great movie....
Let's get one thing straight: his club career didn't match up to his talent. His first four years in club football were as good as anyone. International wise, Pele is the only player who might have had a better international career. In tournaments where he actually played, his teams made it to the final five out of six times.
imagine how great he would have been without the injuries- cr7 and messi wouldn't have been able to candle to him. an amazing talent
george normally not with a huge legacy that he has been
george I will let v? I have a guest on m, but the
What does this have to do with Messi or CR7, who by the way aren't the reference point of football. Internationally speak, they're both quite average compared to Pelé or Maradona. Fwiw, I think Messi is a special talent, up there with the best of the best. CR7, to me, just doesn't have the technical skills of the best players that played the game.
Steeve Cantave Messi and Ronaldo average! Phahhahaha
Steeve Cantave I am actually a Messi fan, but Ronaldo's got pretty awesome skills along with Messi
Both are the best players in present time
Ronaldo's story is an amazing story. Overcame so many obstacles. GOAT!
One of the greatest players of all time! R9💙🔥😍
Aadarsh A For me he is THE greatest
+EZEKIEL Ronaldo isn't even the greatest Brazillian ever.
J Thorsson You want to use stats even Romarios goals to game ratio at international level is higher than Ronaldo.
I am not saying scoring is not important...but it is only one part of the game...so my friend do your research...in my eyes both messi and cr7 even they will score around 1000 goals but they are not as great as zidane or maradona or any other great legends...GROW UP...
the absoulte man my childhood hero
The Legend....not just insanely gifted as a footballer but he had unbelievable drive and mental toughness to keep coming back from the injuries and set backs....for my generation he is the ultimate footballer...there is almost something mystical about Ronaldo....El Phenomeno!
Still my favorite footballer having watched the game for nearly 40 years.
I use to play football growing up and every time i dribbled someone friends said loudly , and here is Rolando ....
His name was everywhere, unstoppable, he showed up in the right place and the right time , golden era of Brazil
the best of all time in my opinion ,
Only for him I have become fan of brazil
@@NeoCaronte81 but they are all whores
@@NeoCaronte81 facts
God, I remember watching him for Cruzeiro back in 1993-94. He was only 16, and already unstoppable. If it wasn't for his injuries, there wouldn't be any question of who was the GOAT.
No Ronnie, you gave the football more than.what football gave you, always my legend,Salute and my standing ovation .
The best football player ever
Much love for ronaldo in particular, I'm from East African country Uganda, I remember used to escape from school to watch ma favourite player ever.
His greatness is obvious but he also seems like a warm, friendly, down to earth guy.
drjones he really is. Amazing considering he has been world famous since he was 17 and was thrown into the spotlight at 16. He is a true genius and very very likable
I’ve been many time to Rio de Janeiro and he loves fogo de chao! Who doesn’t right? The man loves the steakhouses. The best food for Me is in Brazil.
100% agree!
He is. Ronaldo has high control, is not a violent player, impulsive and is not arrogant.
He is. Ronaldo has high control, is not a violent player, impulsive and is not arrogant.
They 100 percent poisoned him before that final. The aches and pains that stayed with him blighted the rest of his career.
Roz Sa haven't heard that theory before...
Unbelievable player, and truly the most complete striker of his generation (possibly ever, come to think of it...)
I remember watching this in Kenya during '02 WC when I was 9 and I vividly Senegal Beating France with El Hai Diouf, Saudi Aracbia getting dominated by Germany and Turkey being actually good.
Always Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima will be my G.O.A.T
Simon Naslund absolutely 💯
what a hero. what a phenomenon
His body could not withstand the godly abilities.. EL FENOMENOOO
Best ever !!! My favorite team. Love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
The best football player I ever saw play.
i Cut my hair more than 15 years just because of this man. The phenomenon . The Martian . The Great Ronaldo.
No other striker can even compare to the king. Greatest #9 of all time, and scary to think what could have been if he did it injury free.
2002 World Cup final was the first time I watched a proper football match. It made me fall in love with the beautiful game. Thank you Ronaldo el phenomeno for makingme fall in love with football, the greatest sport of all time.
The best striker I’ve ever seen in my 16 years watching football, the only and unique RONALDO “IL FENOMENO”
kwstas kwsta he doesn’t have a UCL title, but I think when you win 2 world cups and 3 ballon d’ors you validate yourself as the best striker ever
kwstas kwsta 23 years watching football? Interesting... 94 mate as 18 year old, he was part of the squad, them as 22 year old ballon d’or winner played in the final, and then as 26 year old with 8 goals in 7 games he won it again
you kids know nothing about football stop it pathetic. at 16 ronaldo was scoring 5 goals in a match whilst at 20 messi was dinhos waterboy
Dont disrespect CR7 and what he has done.
@@justinoppermann3997 what has he done ??? World cups ?? Nothing stfu
Hater
It's cool to admire a player but to sit here and bash Christiano and act like he didn't do anything for the game is plain stupidity. Sorry to say
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the worst divers of all time. He is a cheater who is also inspiring younger generations of footballers to cheat just like he does. The world of football would be better without him.
The greatest of all time, I'm Glad he's brazilian
My childhood has disappear 🥅 Oh fenomeo fenomeno, You are the reason im still playing GOD has blessed us to be able to see you in this lifetime, what a great teacher you were, you regenerated this game, Luis Nazario for ever gratefully memories.
Hello tout

lmfaoooo
They have so much Stress when they are playing.. is not easy
Dont understand the language, but just here to feel the emotion ❤️❤️ from India Ronaldo the best striker ever played 🙏🙏🙏🙏 respect

LIVING LEGEND
What an amazing aspiring video , Ronaldo truly was and is the best of all time
Ronaldo symbolizes a person who defeated himself! To achieve victory,it was necessary to overcome his mistakes, injuries, the pain of despair, defeat and destruction of hopes.
Ronaldo, conquering himself, the greatest man!!!One of the greatest players in world football of all time!
Best comment of the internet!
That......was..........beautiful........
One of my childhood idols - great player!
He was at his peak when he played for Barcelona, Such an Epic Legend.
Simplesmente fenômeno! O jogador de toda uma geração, uma inspiração pro futebol. O futebol agradece a existência e a tudo que esse cara fez
My childhood hero CUZ of him I started to love Brazil back in the days
As everyone is saying this guy was a pure magic , what makes him special that beside his skills, he touched us emotionally, he's smiles after he scores and his passion for football, it sad when he touched us in our heart and then forced to retire because of injuries, we will always miss you on the pitch.
A movie should be made out of this story. it's just amazing.
R9 was, is and will always be the G.O.A.T.
I started playing football was in 1998...the reason i knew football was ronaldo...the reason i started play football is also because of him...i knew ronaldo first then football
"i knew ronaldo first then football" same to me.
He is the Reason why i love football and worldcup. Undisputedly GOAT.
The greatest my eyes has ever seen..and I have seen the injured version... Truly a phenomenon..goat..
NO.9 the only Ronaldo i know ! what a legend
i havnt picked this magazine up for months.. defo my favourite magazine over the years. shame on me for not knowing they had a RUclips channel. Good stuff
Fenómeno!
Greatest striker of all time. My generation is very lucky to have seen this phenomenon and other great players like Zidane, Ronaldinho, etc. And I’m sorry to see this generation only focusing in only two players missing a bunch of good players also.
He was my childhood and ofc the beautiful team!
El Fenomeno is the best ever in my eyes. I just wish he never had those injuries you can imagine what other great stuff we would see from him. But to come back after those serious injuries and to win and play great just goes to show you what a special talent he was and what a strong minded person he was to come back and play at a high level
God is definitely on his side made him with extreme talent and overcome everything
Why did god give him a thyroid condition that cut short his prime?
el fenomeno R9 . you are the reason why im wearing number 9 and im a basketball player. i did have the same injury as u (patella tendon ruptured) which i fully recovered from.and you are a big inspiration to me. i loved watching you play and i still do
Great channel! Keep bringing us these amazing and unique documentaries! Greetings from Argentina
Wow this was... amazing content. 23 mins of quality information and entertainment. Well done @FourFourTwo
The man
The myth
The GOAT
his desire to return after the injuries is like something out of a film, lazurus from the death. and he seems such a nice man, i think people and fans of a certain age will always identify with him, his story rsonates with us. im 49, apart from maradona, the best player of my life time
Ronaldo as a player was for football the same as Shaquille O’Neal was for basketball...they were both absolutely unstoppable
y90guan wrong. *Michael Jordan.
y90guan JORDAN AND LEBRON JAMES>>>>>>>>>>>>> ONEAL
Viva Ronaldo ❤️🙏🏻🤗, viva brasil 🇧🇷
You give everyone to football
Obrigado Ronaldo was a pleasure watch you make this amazing sport the beautiful game!
My favourite player of all time!
El mejor de la historia fenomeno
He is THE BEST player EVER to carry the name RONALDO!!!
A true brazilian superstar. not like these clowns in 2018
it is sad that Brazil now rely on the diving Neymar as their striker
He was a fantastic player I'd put him in the top five all time .... Some of his goals were galaxy class !
Eres y serás el mejor!!!
Ronaldo por siempre...
You can feel this guys greatness as if it is part of his consciousness.
That was the best time to be in brasil
