clamp a piece of flat bar at each end of the flange and the shrinks can then be planished flat without losing any of the curve👍
A tuck shrink has to be trapped by flattening the point of the tuck first. Then you flatten the rest of the tuck from the point to the edge. Simply flattening the tuck without trapping it doesn't yield as much shrinkage. Ron Fornier explains this very well in his books and videos. I've seen methods of putting tucks in that actually stretch the metal first. Of course, that's counter productive. A tuck should be a bend only thing. The pliers you have can probably be adjusted so that they don't do any stretching. Cool Tool!
In the aircraft industry they call them Fluting Pliers. I am going to have to make one of these. I did do something similar to put a bead in a turbo tube that I shortened but didn't want it to blow of.
AWESOME SAUCE!👍👍
Great idea, I'm going to have to build one for myself...although I'm having a bit of trouble finding some of that extra brittle stainless steel rod that you used.
I have a whole slew of it here at my shop! Come by, it has to be picked up in person because it breaks during shipping
nice tool. taper the bars for a more efficient tuck. also heat the tucks cherry red and then hammer them out, you'll only have to do it once.
Yes good ideas!
Yes Karl has some stuff going on... 1st time on this channel and thanks for the tips and tricks!
Glad I can help!
This Old Tony would also be proud! Definitely gonna build me one of these. Cool idea!
My inspiration!
Great idea!
Guess I'll have to build a pair.
Great idea, I'm gonna have me some of those in my arsenal.
Nice tool mod! My best was welding nuts on the threaded rod of a C clamp and using my rattle gun to spin it. Use it everyday. Yes, we need to move thick bronze castings quite a distance at times.
thanks, i'm doing that.
Nice work..... All the best with everything
Perfect to tune up a aftermarket panel
Exactly!
If theres one kind of guy I don't want to mess with its a guy that can break stainless steal bar with his hand....😳 cool tool...thanks for the idea....
Hahaha 🤣 yeah I have strong hands lol
nice tool , its what i need ,tks for sharing
Try’s nipex plierwrench you will find it a go to tool in your arsenal
They make something similar for thin dirt car body's or duct work but they don't work near as good this design I will definitely have to make a set now! Thanks for sharing
Sweet!! Hope it is good use to you
Love it keep these type of videos coming
If I can think of anything like this again I’ll make a video
Now this is pretty cool, I gotta make one
Right on 👍🏽a tool I can use
I wonder if what you saw was aviation flouting pliers. They do same thing but shrink in a pie shape. Those are cheap say under $20, but haven't priced lately you can get from aircraft tool supply aka ATS, Wicks aircraft, Aircraft Spruce and dozens of others. Isn't the Lincoln shrinker the one that forms a dozen small shrinks? Used on furnace duct stuff?
Not sure I’ll do some more research!
Love this.Making one today😊 JR
Really cool idea, have to give it a try.
This is a cool tool, thanks for sharing!
Appreciate the tip Travis. Thanks
Cool stuff Travis!
Great tip! I will definitely build one of these very soon.
Excellent tip this something my father would have invented. Work smarter
Great idea. 👍😎👍
Fantastic!!!!!
So easy even a welder can do it!
What a great idea!
Cool, allows you to not leave the marks!
Great idea
Poor man's anvil is a must for the shope ya it all good.....
Fluting pliers can be bought at Air Craft Spruce.
It's a great idea I just wonder if another style of plier would be better, the vise grips look a little awkward, maybe a small bolt cropper? Just a thought.
Yeah mess around, I just used what I had lying around
Very cool...
Eastwood sells a version of these. Yours probably require less cleanup though.
They copied me! Haha it’s probably the opposite lol
Hi, what gauge of sheet metal are you using? Thanks.
Great video I'm making one
Much love to AvE…..but ToT is the Sensei of metal magic!!!! Nice trick with what could be junk pliers. Would changing the diameter possibly change the effect?
I think it would be the same effect but it would also effect the time it takes to get your desired bend. I wouldn’t go any larger that what I used.
Nice addition to your shop ! Hey why not have everything at your disposal for shaping!! Thanks for sharing this.
Way Cool
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?
Japhands made em
Travis, tell me the truth….Was this your idea or did you get this idea from Shepard??? 😁 🤔 😂 😉 Either way, it’s a “nifty” little tool!!!
I’ll be honest it was he bosses idea.... 😂
Dig the videos, BUT, please, please, please keep your welding hood far enough away from the arc/fume area because those gasses are going up under your head gear. Simply place your work piece slightly above the bottom of your gear at least a few more inches. Lot's of people that have had those gasses circulate under their hood are no longer with us. I'm far from a negative safety Nancy, just be smarter.
