Jax does mainly AP damage, but he also does a decent amount of AD, so he took the LW and put it on Soroka and hoped they target the same unit which would increase Jax's overall damage output.
Of course, he could have been unlucky and they end up targeting different units. In that case LW would have done nothing and this game probably wouldn't have made it to youtube.
