Many people have tried to recreate James' talent for setting a scene, characterisation, coolly narrating horror, leaving the reader just short of a resolution, and all this in a short story format. Sheila Hodgsons work is nothing short of brilliant. I really think that Montague would have approved, while perhaps somewhat shocked that it took a woman to do it.
Until about six weeks ago this was literally the ONLY recording available to the general public. Therefore, it was the best available. The alternative would be that people don't get to hear it at all.
A very intriguing story. Enjoyed. Thanks.

Low quality recording It does matter to have good quality recordings

Sad that it sounds as if it's under water.
Until the BBC repeat it we have to rely on off-air recordings, sadly...
Not one of the best but still pretty enjoyable
