Improve Dell 3020 SFF cooling with Tape and Paper for GT 1030 upgrade

- The Dell 3020 SFF PC was never meant to be a gaming PC, it was an office PC all its life. But I decided I'm going to turn it into a gaming PC with a GT 1030! So it needs extra airflow for better cooling performance, and how do I do that? With some clever placement of paper and tape ofcourse!

nice vid, i remember discussing pc hardware with you like 5 years ago on instagram
Thanks man haha forgive me if i forgot what your ig handle was

Good little cards

Me too, and later I installed a powerful Quadro T600 (triple the 1030 power), but works hot due the bad airflow. I'm looking for a solution for that.

I've done something similar with paper around the heatsink to keep hot air off my GPU's bad VRam. Love to see ghetto PC mods like these :)
i live for these unorthodox mods!
Why not poke holes in the case for more cold air intake and hot air Dissipation
Thanks ❤
The paper is smart.
i have a optiplex 3020 with a 1030, it keeps telling me about a rear fan failure on start up, but only sometimes, idk whats wrong, cause the fan works fine, but idk if its powerful enough to cool down anything. puzzled really, and i dont wanna waste money on a powersupply that might not even be the reason
Hey i have a rx 550 a 50w gpu
I am getting the black screen due to over heat I tried this but it still have a black screen what should I do
how do you attach the paper to the gpu, is it with tape? if so how do you avoid putting tape on the pci slot
You fold the tape😊
Yeah, just got such one and its a shiity case design if you add a discrete gpu. The whole system got hot and loud with a hd7750🤔 creative ideas you have😆👍 i have a lenovo h330 ivy bridge sff, and this has much better cooling.
Did you try to drill the case top cap?. It could improve airflow?
For my 3060 I was thinking about install a 80 mm fan in the front and drill the top cap. My 1030 worked relatively fine but when I installed Quadro T600, the card is hotter than hell, so I'm thinking how improve it.
@@hopium999 Smart answer.
I did some of the solutions you proposed. First, I removed the thermal paste in Quadro T600 and I repasted with Artic MX4. That decreased GPU temperature about 3-4 ºC.
Then I installed an 80 mm Noctua in the front where there's a place for that. This first Noctua was a little louder and then I changed it by a Noctua NF-A8 FLX which has L.N.A. (1.650 rpm and 12,9 dB) and U.L.N.A. (1.200 rpm and 7,9 dB) adaptors. I use this last configuration which provides an enough airflow with little noise. With these modifications, the GPU has a reasonable temperatures.
Even you still can decrease the temperatures more if you make a little mod in the top of the case with a 12 cm fan throwing out air in the GPU zone, or the same making a hole and putting some mesh, without fan, by simple hot air convection. Something like these two examples:

@@hopium999 Yes, I bought a SATA to 3xPWM cable in Amazon. Also you can buy a SATA splitter for feed your SATA disks and optical driver.
can I use gt 1030 and wifi adapter at same time in same pc i have dell optiplex 3020 SFF
Yes
Heyo, I have this same system, my fps has been fluctuating in games like minecraft and black ops 2 40-50 fps, before it was 100 fps on minecraft and 80 fps on black ops, I use the intel hd 4600 chip which took a bit of heat damage, would it be ok to use this system with the side panel open instead of closed?
hey how are you quick question can i add a ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 Graphics Card (PCIe 2.0, 2GB GDDR5 Memory, 4x HDMI Ports, Single-slot Design, Passive Cooling) to the dell 3020 ?
Yes, you can do it, but there're not a big difference between the Intel HD 4600 graphics from your Intel processor and a GT 730 DDR5,.
If you already have the GT 730, it's OK.
If you are thinking about buy a little graphic card, I'd buy a Quadro T400 DDR6 which is more powerful than GT 1030 DDR5, or this same GT 1030 DDR5, both alternatives are more powerful than 730.
Even, if you want more graphic power you can install Quadro T1000 (there're 4 and 8 gb versions) or Quadro T600 (2 and 4 gb versions). By performance, Quadro 1000 it's like a GTX 1650 and T600 performs like a GTX 1050 Ti, aprox.
All these cards are low profile and single slot.
@@larrybreavman4864 did you use the oem power supply? and I saw you mentioned the other cards with previous comment, but were those also run on the standard power supply or upgraded at all
@@dbahsee Of course and it's enough due T600 drains only 40 Watts
Heyyy thx for recoding this video i have the specific pc! And was wondering if i could put a 16gb ram?
And can i upgrade heat sink?
Yes you can definitely put in 2 8GB sticks of DDR3 RAM. The heatsink is not upgradeable because it uses a proprietary Dell backplate. Don't really need to anyways since I put a Xeon E3 1270 v3 in it which is basically a 4770K and never seen temps going too high or being too noisy anyways.
@@OTechnology thanks for the info! Do you know any links for the gpu? For asia specifically Philippines?
@@OTechnology hello, do the xeons work well on this pc?
How did you take the metal part off on the gpu sorry I’m new to pc
He didnt
for low profile
There is a screw and there is dvi screws to unscrew
this dell just have 240w psu, can handdle gt 1030 and support gddr5?
Yes it can
What model is the gt 1030
Any 1030 model with low profile and single slot. But you've better cards than 1030 that you can install in a Optiplex SFF:
