    I've always liked how you test devices beyond what their intended use is. That's how we learn and discover - thank for sharing this!

    You don't have to set start and stop frequency to the same to get CW, you can just select "CW frequency" below that to get CW mode

      Some earlier firmware releases don't have CW Freq as an option....maybe that is why he ignored that option?

    Just be careful, the output of the NanoVNA is a square wave, thus has a lot of harmonic energy. Of course, it’s very low power.

      In the spirit of lilliputian test gear I'd like to see somebody feed a TinySA with such a wave.

    I am trying to test a receiver project with very limited test equipment. You have provided the missing piece of the jigsaw, or at least one of them.

    Thanks on the tips, but how to stop the transmission? After enabling CW, it is always transmits, even after turning it off/on. Thanks.

    you can use them as a dip meter as well peter

    i like to use it when traveling with a vx7r to decode ssb. just dial the same frequency in both devices and vx7r on am mode. anything will do as an antenna on the vna. you can also use it for 6m dx cw

    I need your wisdom for finding books about radio circuits(actual circuits) as all I can find is either RF engineering books or some basic electronic books, I need books where I can learn the tips and tricks for designing practical circuits on my bench.

      Either eBay, direct from China or local suppliers. Or amazon. A few different versions. H4 has bigger screen than v2.

    I there, i was watching a video where one of these nanos picked up the very small signals even from a car key. I was thinking of getting one but can they record and capture it then see if i could interupt or flood the relevant frequeny and play it back

    Why do you set start and stop when you have cW frequency on the menu?

    • @georgecomninos9126

      Earlier firmware releases don't have the CW option. Maybe he ignored it as it isn't an option on all Nano's?

  • @TheMariepi3

    so that the nanoVNA has a fixed frequency and does not sweep, in stimulus you mark the same frequency in start and stop

    If it only had a variable output in dB from 1mW down I wouldn't have to spend £80 on an RF signal generator :(

    Is there a connection between the VNA and the receiver, or the signal is just transmitted? And another question, can I use it to calibrate an S-meter?

    • @vk3ye
      @vk3ye  2 года назад +1

      Maybe but you'd need a good quality RF attenuator and a calibrated RF probe or similar to measure the voltage across 50 ohm. RF leakage could be a major issue as my Nano VNA is not in a proper shielded case.

    • @vk3ye

      I haven't tried it. But it might be possible using the bandscope function where received stations show as peaks.

    • @viocaia
      @viocaia 2 года назад

      @@vk3ye yep! Good idea! I saw something similar with a software named Nanovna server and a Nanovna-F v2 connected to USB, so on port1 was the TX and port 2 working like RX..I don't know if the software is working with older devices..Thanks!

    Do you realise that the nano emits a square wave? So you're spattering multiple harmonics, most likely outside the ham bands.
    Also, are you aware of the sensitivity of these instruments to feed line capacitance? A great way to blow up a nano is to connect it unprotected to an antenna, where feedline capacitance can easily charge to a level where it blows the instrument.
