@grugmangaming5152 fair, I hadn't reached that part. But the The Purge Nurglite Warband was confirmed on Vraks during the siege, and those guys are basically what happens when you use Nurgle's gifts to make chemical warfare even worse.

Drop Trooper man myself but gotta respect Kriegers for their sheer willpower. Takes a lot of balls to willingly go into battle fully knowing you're going to die to the last.
The best part of this is the way you keep up suspense. "Oh, no they have titans all is lost" but "They have shadowswords so maybe not". Your on the edge of your seat, wanting to find out who wins. Especialy if you don't know that much about Vraks.
Is always feel like Zuehlke get judged harshly for his work on Vraks. Compared to the Imperial Navy’s blockade, the Tacticus who came up with the timetable/overall plan and the Administratum who insisted on the attack itself, he was surprisingly capable at maintaining the supply lines and keeping the Army doing its job, even if he didn’t have much Strategic experience. Looking at the fact that future commanders would leverage resources he couldn’t access to achieve their “progress” and the poor assessment of what the situation on Vraks was going to be, I don’t think much more could reasonably have been expected of him.
There was also the lengths he went to even using personal favors to obtain things they needed like ammunition and other various supplies flowing in, only to get shafted at the last second by the navy dropping the ball
Yeah, any higher-ups in the know really shouldn't blame him once they got word that the Alpha Legion and a Chaotic bumrush straight from the Eye got involved. There's something to be said for being prepared for the unexpected, but at some point you really ought to just pat a guy on the shoulder and say "It is what it is. Tag out, we'll see to it that none of this is on you." It'd be like grilling a commander because a Tyranid Splinter Fleet bulldozed into the AO and fouled everything up. That ain't his fault.

Arch narration is quite awesome as well - definately check out his siege of Vraks series. That said Jonovich's pieces are amazing as well. Man should they combine Jonovich skill at animation with Arch narration - that would be one heck of a show.

I used to do that with the Wheel of Time series. Every time a new book would come out, I'd reread the entire series before reading the new book. It really do make it special.
Space marine chapter rarely get involved in siege warfare, that is the Imperial Guards job. The Red Scorpions did show up earlier to help break through the shield wall.
Most likely it is because thats not their prefered fighting style. Imagine up to a third of a chapter bound to a warzone for decades. Also as we saw during Tallarn: Space Marines are not cost efficent during big Tank battles since there are so many heavy weapons there that their armor means basicly nothing.

(the alpha legion got cleared out by the Dark angels mostly) There was not enough time to call in the marines yet. And against titans they are of limited use. So better call in your own titan legion and call space marines later if you still need them. Also from a narrativ point of view: it was meant as a bookseries about a massiv siege with guardsman as their main protagonists. Not about space marines. They had the badab war to shine.
One of my favorite 40k Series. This is so well produced. So much 40k 'history' would be interesting to understand through this format. The Octarius sector comes to mind, as that insane quagmire would just be a mess, but interesting none the less.

The Imperium of Man is a hell that only the worst of our impulses could ever conjure, no mater how the whole setting seems designed to excuse those ways of governance, cost of human life and such, all in the name of surviving horror of either actual alien civilisations or even better, hell worshipers, followers and actual demons and gods, just for one more day, a year or a century.. In such a setting morality comes towards the bottom of the list of needs for a "functioning" society. Also please observe how the religious zelots that help Imperium in the state that it is, keep on somehow trucking as a cohesive civilization, usually get even more creative with torture towards the not zelous enough crowd, then actually enemies.. The grymdark is supposed to be humanity surviving 40k years into the future by any means necessary, while actually being one of the leading factions in the whole Milky way galaxy (yay) , but to do so, is jam packed with all the worst atributes known to be conjured by us, once we make our enemies the "other", lesser then human, to be exterminated without gulty conscience. Luckily, her we have actual others.. While diplomacy with at least some would do us so much more stability and safety, progress.. The dogma of Mars and the Dark age of technology and the Long Night afterwards make for nice excuse not to even try. Like Trazyn said.. "once the Emperor got intombed at his throne, humanity went back to it's old ways of dealing with everything in absolutes, of everything being either black or white." People just lose any source of grouding and take it as real, adopting our worst tendencies.. So don't be too surprised to hear much more xenophobic, fachistic and similar retorike.
I love the idea of chaos air forces over the battlefield. I imagine it'd normally be a mess of pilots ,both human and demonic, trying to prove themselves to their masters in something like a swarm of flies.
It also would include transports of drop troops. IIRC, at one point a bunch of Khornate Berserkers got dropped over their lines and started ripping things apart. A named character had their skull taken by one too.

This was all new to me. I've never heard of Shadowsword tanks before, but hearing about them got me hopeful that it would knock out a Titan. Looking forward to the Void battle rematch. Thank you Janovich!
Not to be too much of an armchair general but: as soon as the admiral got news that a chaos fleet was on the way he knew his chances of winning were slim so the ground forces should have started preparing for enemy landing forces. Send your tanks back to the second line of defence, hide them in trenches/ craters and pull burning wrecks over them as camouflage. Avoid aircraft, Wait for chaos to pass you over and then attack from behind. You get first volley at close range at their less armoured backs. Hopefully get a second volley before they can turn their big guns around. If very lucky it might pass right over you and you can shoot straight up from inside its void shields. Also rig vulnerable weapons depots to blow.
"The Imperial forces found some luck when the enemy ran out of ammunition" My lord, it was not luck but skill. We deliberately presented a tempting target to the enemy's bombers to exhaust their stockpiles. What's that? Why, yes, we did lose most of our Shadowswords. No, my lord, they can't be replaced. Wait, why are you drawing your laspistol?
There is a little misunderstanding in this video. Shadowswords cannot kill titans with a single shot. I'm not sure where you got this from. Volcano cannon is not powerful enough to penetrate void shields. Shadowswords are designed to kill a Titan in one shot when its void shields are either down or sufficiently weakened. These are coup de grace type weapons, meant to deliver a final, killing blow and then they shut down for few minutes. These are expensive, complex and highly inflexible weapons. These tanks are not good by any means, but they are only way for an ordinary military to deal with Titan level threats directly. In general, Death Korps of Krieg failed in their assault on traitor legions. First, they just went in to meet them. That is just a suicidal charge which achieved very little. Another issue is that they failed to concentrate fire. This directly led to their inability to destroy any Titans with Shadowsword fire which they revealed way too soon. Shadowswords were also scattered for some reason, firing at random targets like rest of the tank formation. Even Chaos seem more organized in this battle than Krieg Troops! Also, Death Korps of Krieg like damn amateurs placed these long range snipers with advanced targeting cogitators at the front. Amateurs. Good at dying, but not in using advanced weaponary and tactics. Unless...animator made a mistake there too. :) Btw: Nice use of Titan footage. I really liked how you could use work of other authors and implement in your work. It really makes your videos more impressive and I'm happy that you find to make his work even more useful and entertaining than it was before.
Hey thanks for the feedback. I couldn't find any definitive source on the shadows words powerlevel so I leaned on making them a bit more overpowered for the sake of the narrative. Never meant to suggest a single shadows word by itself would take down a fresh titan but wanted to suggest they could potentially penetrate void shield to some extend. You did word it quite elegantly 'coup de grace type weapon' I wish I had come up with that. I bet the Deathkorps would probably have performed better if the airplanes didn't catch them by surprise and ruined their organization and communications right before the battle.
@@elchjol2777typically 3-5 minimum for a warhound class titan scaling up from there for larger ones the problem with shadowswords is that they have to disconnect the drive train to charge the capacitors making the vehicle completely immobile while charging each shot which if i recall takes 5 or so mins The shadowsword uses the entire energy generating capacity of a baneblade to charge the capacitors They also have to very careful when firing the volcano cannon as the beam as it passes glasses the terrain and will flash fry ANYTHING along its path, friendlies included, typically all allies need to be hunkered down and not looking anywhere near the firing path or risk blindness

My lord, it was not luck but skill. We deliberately presented a tempting target to the enemy's bombers to exhaust their stockpiles. What's that? Why, yes, we did lose most of our Shadowswords. No, my lord, they can't be replaced. Wait, why are you drawing your laspistol?

There is a little misunderstanding in this video. Shadowswords cannot kill titans with a single shot. I'm not sure where you got this from. Volcano cannon is not powerful enough to penetrate void shields. Shadowswords are designed to kill a Titan in one shot when its void shields are either down or sufficiently weakened. These are coup de grace type weapons, meant to deliver a final, killing blow and then they shut down for few minutes. These are expensive, complex and highly inflexible weapons. These tanks are not good by any means, but they are only way for an ordinary military to deal with Titan level threats directly.
In general, Death Korps of Krieg failed in their assault on traitor legions. First, they just went in to meet them. That is just a suicidal charge which achieved very little. Another issue is that they failed to concentrate fire. This directly led to their inability to destroy any Titans with Shadowsword fire which they revealed way too soon. Shadowswords were also scattered for some reason, firing at random targets like rest of the tank formation. Even Chaos seem more organized in this battle than Krieg Troops! Also, Death Korps of Krieg like damn amateurs placed these long range snipers with advanced targeting cogitators at the front. Amateurs. Good at dying, but not in using advanced weaponary and tactics. Unless...animator made a mistake there too. :)
Btw: Nice use of Titan footage. I really liked how you could use work of other authors and implement in your work. It really makes your videos more impressive and I'm happy that you find to make his work even more useful and entertaining than it was before.

I couldn't find any definitive source on the shadows words powerlevel so I leaned on making them a bit more overpowered for the sake of the narrative. Never meant to suggest a single shadows word by itself would take down a fresh titan but wanted to suggest they could potentially penetrate void shield to some extend. You did word it quite elegantly 'coup de grace type weapon' I wish I had come up with that.
I bet the Deathkorps would probably have performed better if the airplanes didn't catch them by surprise and ruined their organization and communications right before the battle.
I wonder then, how many Shadowswords would one need to destroy a titian in a single volley. Assuming all Shadowswords hit their shots that is.
@@elchjol2777typically 3-5 minimum for a warhound class titan scaling up from there for larger ones
the problem with shadowswords is that they have to disconnect the drive train to charge the capacitors making the vehicle completely immobile while charging each shot which if i recall takes 5 or so mins
The shadowsword uses the entire energy generating capacity of a baneblade to charge the capacitors
They also have to very careful when firing the volcano cannon as the beam as it passes glasses the terrain and will flash fry ANYTHING along its path, friendlies included, typically all allies need to be hunkered down and not looking anywhere near the firing path or risk blindness
