Also, unlike the Ford Pinto the Gremlin and Pacer don’t traditionally explode on impact and are more fondly remembered now than either the Pinto or Vega.

    This is #2 built (not 4). Chassis WTDO 363 2/55/55. The "2" means #2. There are 7 total documented cars. The first one was never finished therefore did not run. This car #2 is the BMW/ItalDesign/Polytechnic car that Bizzarrini tested at Monza. Car #3 was the Rome & US press release car. Car #4 was imported directly from Italy in March 1971 to Jerry Werden along with the #2 car and he still owns #4, known as the 1970 Turin show car. Car #5 was imported to AMC and later sold with #3 to Teague in 1978 and is now owned by Bernie Carl. Car #6 was finished by Diomante (who built all cars with Bizzarrini) after the project was canceled and he still owns it. Car #7 was sold to and finished by Giordanengo after the project was canceled and this is the Autoworld Belgium car. Giordanengo built the AMX Spider from an unfinished AMX/3 chassis, also at Autoworld Belgium. Diomante states a 9 chassis survive but I can't find the 9th chassis. Perhaps Diomante still has it and is waiting to build car #9 for you if you have the money!

    • @carshowreporter
      @carshowreporter  6 лет назад +3

      Thank you for the correction and the details about this important " might have been " AMX. I took the information off the show placard, which, as you pointed out, not quite the correct information. It is ashame no one picked up the design, like a number of international hybrid builders were doing in the era, including Bizzarrini. Do you know of any plans to build these?

    • @curthall9947
      @curthall9947 5 лет назад +5

      I accounted for all nine chassis. See amx3.weebly.com/ it discusses how AMC offered Bizzarrini to continue the cars but Bizzarrini declined in late '70-'71 Again in '76 OTO Melara tried to resurect the car but no interest was created and none were build. Later Giordannengo finished car #7. Diomante and his son's still have their shop, all original tooling and all remaining parts and the original fiberglass model spashed from the original clay deisgn. I'm sure Diomante will build/finish chassis #10 making AMX/3 #8 for anyone with the money.

If I had one wish? it would be to bring back American manufacturing..

    • @carshowreporter
      @carshowreporter  4 года назад +3

      @@Godscountry2732 It was a shame that AMC did not follow their strategy of " filling in the holes of the Big Three " They had unique models, like the Hornet Sportabout, a compact stationwagon, when no other American brand had one and the Jeep line. They used their 4wd technology 10 years later for the Eagle line. Imagine a 4wd wagon in the '70's! How about a compact, 4wd van based on the Hornet platform while the van market and the 4wd segment exploded? Imagine a sports car version of the Spirit liftback...just like Honda did a decade later! Meanwhile AMC offered the American with a flathead, vacuum wipers ( until 1970! ) and trunnion front end until 1965! As for manufacturing, we have many factories in the States from GM to Toyota ( 5 ), Nissan ( 2 ), Honda ( 4 ) and even Mercedes Benz ( 2 ) even Hino! ( 1 ). Man hours per car has dropped 50% from the 70's to today ( average man hours/car is 30 today ). In my humble opinion, we need to bring back American innovation and education.

"Hey let's go up against the worlds best automobile manufactures and build a high volume electric car in California. Crazy. It may just succeed as well, either way, Elon won one for AMC visionaries. It is admirable that American Motors was ahead of their time, patient, worked the best out for last and was truly ahead of the game in respect to all the horrible talk The Big Three could come up with that American Motors was late on the scene. The height of the muscle car years 697071, American Motors was in full swing. Even ready by 68 coming into Trans Am the most respected and watched thrill sport of the time coming out from blind zero nothing climbing right to the top out of the shoot, second place if you will brand new car brand new motor. Ford had the GT40 which they used later as a marketing gig built another 500. These are the most rare sports car at any car show and they are elegant Elite and royalty in my opinion. All its life American Motors has faced criticism mocking gossip and laughing while in fact they were on top with marketing durability reliability funny commercials and a reliable product that people could respect. I believe people who said these cars were ugly any American Motors cars simply didn't have the eye or the class to have taste. In my opinion the javelin and the AMX are two of the best looking sports/pony / muscle cars in existence. The GT look with the long nose and Fine Lines coupled with flush door handles, things that were thought through while the other big three were busy with mass production AMC had the time presence of mind to go the extra mile and put in more detail and design. The features in these cars in addition to being very well optioned, in my opinion Little American Motors won the prize hands down and everybody else just missed it, didn't see it, never saw it coming, and after they read what I say they can look in the mirror and shake their head. I don't mean to be arrogant but being picked on as a youth through the height of the time when AMC was winning the championship at trans am, my Chevrolet friends laughing at my javelin. It is nothing but bully manipulation jealousy insecurity and ignorance. No disrespect where not due.

When you spoke of AMC muscle, you forgot the Rambler " Scrambler " of 1969 and the the Rebel Machine. PS: Go to any car show and note, how many Camaro/Mustangs/Charger/Challenger are there? The lines from this car showed up to some degree in the Matador coupe, which was, as the time a daring design, and one of the better looking cars of that malaise era. Its too bad that AMC didnt have the cash to continue, Chrysler just took her better ideas and stuck a knife in her. AMC probably saved Chrysler for a while until they could reorganize and get an up to date line up settled, ie. Horizon, Minivan and K car.

    • @carshowreporter
      @carshowreporter  2 года назад

      You are the first to notice the similarities between the Matador coupe and the AMX III !! AMC knew it was in trouble when the Pacer did not save the company, as well as rest of the line. To bad they waited so long to come out with the 4wd Eagle line. They also needed a small car, so the takeover by Renault looked like the right move. The Alliance was a nice car to drive, but a bit underpowered. It suffered from the Renault quality problems, though. After building low quality, French cars, Chrysler took over in '87 for Jeep. Could you imagine if AMC came out with a van based on a 4wd Jeep chassis?? Then an " El Camino " line with a Hornet nose. Hummmmm... Thanks for such an insightful comment, xzombielar. Unfortunately, the AMX III was never put into production. One of the reasons why was economics, the exotic would have had a price which put it in the high teens, or possibly, low twenties in a time when a 1970 Corvette base price was $5,192. The Pantera rolled into L/M dealers from Italy with a price tag of $10,295 and the Ferrari 365GT cost a cool $18,900.

      Very good question, Hydden. The AMX The AMX 3 was built in 1970 as a possible " competitor " to the upcoming Pantera. De Tomaso was building the Mangusta through 1971, which was also an American V8 powered exotic, then the Pantera. The concept of the American V8 in a European car has been around for decades. Look at the Allard, Shelby Cobra, Sunbeam Tiger, Jensen Interceptor, Apollo/Intermechanica, etc... @@carshowreporter One thing for sure, I had always loved the 1972 Pantera for its design, but now seeing this Car in comparison, it is incredibly better looking in detail... the bronzy-gold tone image of the AMX is just spectacular to look at. It sort of has a 'Speed Racer Mach V' look to it, aside from the top and color. But the nose certainly retains that look, for sure. I have not been a fan of recent sport car designs; not by much. However, there are a few exceptions, but in Ferrari and Lamborghini, and in other high end sports cars, I've not given them much attention. I personally feel that these older car designs were in some respect related to more simple and practical design elements; far from the carbon composite designs we're seeing today; cars that look like they should be on F1 race tracks, or better, take off and fly rather than handle curvy back roads... I'd take an old Pantera, Cobra, or Shelby Mustang over anything new in sports car. Though the AMX/3 looks too darn good for daily driving; at least the one in the review... what a show stopper and jaw dropper.

      @carshowreporter  2 года назад +1

      The AMX III is a clean, aggressive statement!!! Ferrari of 1970 was just concerned with building enough road cars to keep their racing team in gas. AMC had recently bought Kaiser Jeep and just released the Javelin and AMX as well as the Gremlin and Hornet. They had a full plate!! The common thought was the Pantera " killed " the AMX III. AMC could not produce the exotic at a " realistic " price. Pantera was priced at about $10,000 while Ferrari 365GT was about $19,000. I fully agree with you about the Fiero and even Pontiac! GM has a few, outstanding designs. Corvette, Camaro, and recently, the Cadillac XLR . Unfortunately, they have become a CUV/SUV/truck company. These are the hottest segments, but they left the sedan and coupe markets to the competition.

      It was a common formula, Italian sex appeal with American, iron muscle. de Tomaso built a number of variations, too. According to my quick research, AMC dropped the concept because they could not bring it out to compete with the $13,000 price range of the Pantera. World wide Pantera sales peaked at a little over 2,000/year ( 1972 - 1973 ), after that it dropped drastically. Although AMC knew this would be a halo car, they may have had hesitation in losing money on every AMX 3 sold.

During that same period 1118 Panteras were sold outside the US by Ford in Canada and by DeTomaso in Europe and other international markets. Ah, Tony, styling is personal taste! This is why we have so many choices. Thank you for commenting, Tony, and please check out other, cool, cars on my channel.

    Why are so many posters flashing up writing at a speed that is impossible to read ? Have they not attempted to view their own footage ?
    Is there something wrong with their attitude towards their viewers ? Is it a snide way of paying a disrespect to us? I’m convinced it must be. 🤮

      Sorry about the quick notes. I find ones which linger to long are annoying, but, as a slow reader, I try to be careful. May I suggest hitting pause. Thanks for your input My great big FOOT.

      @@carshowreporter Hitting pause are you kidding I had to slow playback to 1/4 speed in order to to catch the frame before I could press pause on them. Slow reader, no, I might need glasses, but I know I living in a world of “Well I can read it on my screen” (but you know what you are writing in the first place don’t you ?).
      Trust me no one is going to get bored in the duration you left the text up for and please remember you’re not writing a letter over a blank page, it’s text over the top of a picture, which makes it a damn site harder to read when you aren’t the person writing it.Have you ever considered that ? Do you watch tv and need to hit pause, no I bet you don’t and neither do I. Maybe you should get someone else’s feedback but I guess it’ll be a waste of time because you’ll just write them off as slow readers too.
      Hit pause really, patronising so I refer to my original comment. Confirmed. .
      I”lll just hit not interested in future it saves time.

      Gee, I agreed with you!!! I would hate to read your response if I didn't!!! By the way, I can not edit the video without redoing the whole thing. Also, I rarely use those posts.
