    I’m sure you have looked at this so feel free to ignore. I work in automation for manufacturing. When we have a high sku count operation with a step with uncontrollable yield a supermarket/kanban could be a great tool. The goal is keep a set qty of each blank out of rip chop in stock and that number is set based on the monthly/weekly forecast (depending on how many batches you do daily). Downstream can the pull and produce with a much more repeatable yield. The upstream then uses the stock level in the supermarket for signals on what to make more of. Shortens the feedback window and speeds up the downstream production because you know how many good blanks you have vs guessing a yield out of different bunks of wood. Also allows the rip chop crew to have a goal, keep the supermarket full. Ok stepping of my soap box now, carry on.

    As somebody who owns 8 modular component holders and one in every wood from both kickstarters we love the wood variety and aesthetic. Only feedback I have is it would be nice to have a way to divide the trays. For this reason I understand the new design but I wouldn’t consider it a replacement. I think nuking everything else makes sense. The card holders still don’t feel like a winning design largely because there should be a way to angle them away from somebody sitting next to you.

    Love the inside baseball on the decisions. Waiting 5-7 months (realistically) for a table is rough. Silicone inserts…now we’ll just 3D print the inserts if we’re just getting cheap materials.
    Wyrmwood is supposed to be about high quality, heirloom level pieces that a person can flex a little with their friends. Showing up with some silicone stuff is like a bad boob job. That one’s for Matt to snip.

    • @sbcguitarist
      @sbcguitarist 5 месяцев назад +1

      "Wyrmwood is supposed to be about high quality, heirloom level pieces"
      That would be true if you were talking about the Prophecy, but you aren't. We're talking about Modular Game Table, which is LITERALLY designed to be a budget friendly, hand-crafted solid wood table for gamers. This was always going to happen, because there are more people who are interested in bottom dollar pricing than there ever will be trying to get Makassar Ebony small component organizers.

  • @theshae09
    @theshae09 5 месяцев назад +65

    I think you should keep the small wooden component organizers. There's literally only so much room at a table, and sometimes you only want smaller obstacles to navigate into the vault. I do think you should have a Duo insert for cards and components, or offer the card component in a small size so the empty half of a Hobby solo can hold components. Also, storage of a small, dedicated component organizer that is magnetic is more appealing than a bunch of non-magnetic silicone inserts. Plus, wood is infinitely more beautiful than silicone.
    Maybe most importantly, WyrmWOOD is a woodworking company that came into being for tabletop gaming accessories. You can't just stop making basic wooden gaming accessories because you've created what you think is a great new system. Not everyone wants an SUV when a sedan would be more appropriate.
    You could send a survey to current MGT and Prophecy owners about accessories. "What is your favorite accessory? What is your most used accessory? What accessory were you underwhelmed with? Do you want dedicated wooden accessories or a hybrid system that is interchangeable?" Getting information from proven customers who would be more willing to purchase more from you in the future is important research to have.

      A survey of existing accessories, with properly phrased questions, would make a lot of sense. As would having a custom section for premium product lines they don't want to make. "Would you like some overtime? Cool, come in on Saturday, and spend five hours hand crafting premium accessories which we charge a lot more for." I dunno, I just feel like they want to be able to charge for premium pieces, have great woodworkers and crafters, and don't really do much in the way of making genuinely expensive gear. Just make small batches of stuff.

    I like the silicone approach. It makes it easier to try a new component, without having to be sure I'm definitely 100% going to use that $90 (per person!) accessory. I can swap them out for different games or activities or use them for snacks. Part of the edge the gaming table has over other tables is the modular system to make the table playable for your group, which means, if you can't afford the accessories, you're not getting the most out of it. I bet a lot of people pick up some of the silicone accessories this time.

    In my mind I've always wanted to have multiple sets of 3 component organizers, being 1 regular and 2 nested on the sides, each set being a different wood. Replacing them with the silicone things seems like a mistake to me. I would have considered adding 1 card holder per set to swap out the middle tray for certain games, if they were the same length as the component organizer, but they're shorter so it looks weird.
    The rest of the potential 'nukings' seem like the right call to me.

    With nuking all the individual component organizer and cardholder SKUs, I think y'all should look into bringing something like the "card shelf" concept back (all-in-one component + card holder) even if it needs some re-engineering. It looks extremely handsome in wood (vs. the cheaper silicone) and gets used & admired in almost every game we play. We've had a lot of folks over for games who were interested in getting their own table after playing at ours, only to be disappointed that accessory wasn't available.

      Looks like it is worth a redesign. The main reason it got canned was that it wouldn't swivel correctly. Probably due to variance of the holder being inconsistent against the rail. They'd have to find a way to 1) make it simpler to build and 2) have it be steady.

    • @wprothwell
      @wprothwell 5 месяцев назад

      @@PeruvianHeadShrinker -- I had to do a slight adjustment with mine at the direction of Wyrmwood when they first arrived, and since then they've been great. I vaguely recall there was discussion that they killed it because of build complexity (but maybe we can get that back in exchange for killing all those other SKUs and/or a re-engineer)?
      FWIW, I really love the swivel functionality. I almost never turn it 180 degrees, but I frequently put it to one side and turn it a little so that my cards are facing me but I have an unobstructed view of a player board below (which the current flat designs can't do-either the cards don't face you or the accessory blocks your view straight down).

    I know a lot of comments on here are going to have their pet favorite accessory and it doesn't necessarily mean it was a good seller overall, so here's mine: the headphone stand is by far the WW accessory I use the most frequently. It lives by my computer/TV, and my phones are on and off all the time. It helps alleviate the stuff-pile-stability problem and makes it much easier to charge them. Also, it's way nicer looking than a plastic version to have in my living room. Yeah, it's pricy, but in my book it was definitely worth it. And I had my doubts when I decided to buy it that it would be this useful.

      Overall I agree, but the idea as far as I can tell, it will remain a modular wooden table. It is just by doing silicon insert, they can keep offering weird and wild ideas for modules. If they do not cut some, and try to optimize their lineup, they will have to stop innovating on their core modular products. That is how I understood it, and then their choice make a lot of senso imo.

      Or bring it back when Qi 2 becomes normal - which will mean it can charge through the entire accessory. @JZiLLADragon I always felt the power pack was a product that was dead in the water because it was the accessory most likely to go obsolete quickly. This turned out to be true because there have already been newer charging standards since it was released, and more are coming. Also, there really isn't a standardized battery size, and many phones use different charging standards. I like the idea of a "Wyrmwood Secret Menu" where you cut all these designs from your new kickstarter and main storefront, but for the wyrmlings in the know who have been following MGT since the beginning there's still a way to order legacy concepts/wood types direct from customer service (possibly at a more premium price as they would not be crafted at volume). It lets everyone who bought a table in MGT1 or MGT2 have a way to continue to expand their original table and match what they own, but new customers won't even know what they are missing and thus don't have any expectations to miss out on. Plus now you can order a "Component Organizer, Animal Style" (Zebrawood obviously).

    • @malglove
      @malglove 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@SPRTN085 I mean I own a hobby shelf, but in this scenario if you wanted to have multiple card organizers at the table that locked into the magentic rails ... everyone would need a hobby solo and the silicone organizer? Buying that setup for 4-6 players is significantly more expensive than just 4-6 wooden card holders currently. I have four card organizers currently, because we play a lot of card-based games where you will have individual hands and so I'm just a little weirded out by them leaning into silicone inserts to replace standard table accessories.

    • @SPRTN085
      @SPRTN085 5 месяцев назад

      @@malglove how do you know its significantly more expensive if they haven't announced the prices?

    • @malglove
      @malglove 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@SPRTN085 This is how I based my opinion (all prices based on Black Walnut, the most popular wood's pricing):
      The card organizers are $60.
      The hobby shelf is $150. Even if the hobby solo is 50% the price of the hobby shelf, that is still $75. I don't think that the hobby solo will cost less than $75, given the size estimations they have given about what the hobby solo will hold, but I will be pleasantly surprised if it did. That does not include the silicone inserts (likely around $12 - $15 based on similarly large inserts they have on the site) or if you want the end caps as well (which are $65 a pop as well).
      If the hobby solo is somehow the same price as the card organizer, at $60 (mind you that is 40% the price of the hobby shelf), and the inserts are $15 a piece; that brings the per person total to $75. If you wanted to supply something for a table of four players, that just went up from $240 to $300. If you go with still a very charitable price of $75 per hobby solo, then that jumps up to $360. If you wanted to put end caps on those hobby solos (which I would recommend so your cards don't get knocked off easily) that puts you back another $260 for a total somewhere in the range of $560 to $620.
      I think I am being pretty generous on my price estimations, but I think it's pretty easy to come to an opinion just looking at how much current accessories cost.

    Honestly I agree with most of the nuking options and I am glad they are still available up on request. However here are my complaints.
    1) the wooden accessories. You have already stated in previous videos you want to be the premium brand. Silicone inserts are the cheap looking options so the component organizer and the card holder wood only options should stay.
    The nested ones could go. I haven't seen much use for them but another person might think differently.
    2) battery power pack. That seems so useful. I honestly want one but I don't have a table so it wouldn't be worth it. I understand the reason why it's getting nuked but if it gets so many complaints then I would suggest showing it some more love and redesigning it .

    I have the hobby shelf and I have no interest in buying any silicone inserts for holding cards or tokens etc. If i was going to do that I would just buy a regular card holder made by someone else and put it on the hobby shelf.
    Additionally I think getting rid of the component holders are a mistake. Additionally I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of people that would normally buy wooden accessories that also happen to 3d print things. They buy the wood for the luxury but if you are going to make it silicone why wouldn't they just print it themselves in pla or something.
    The only reason I was possibly considering backing this year was to get those since I skipped them last year and I would like a smaller thing to hold components with.
    Personally I really like the nested items especially the cup holders as it allows more stuff to fit and take up less space. But I can see how the regular version of the cup holder is otherwise adequate.

    Here is just one idea, when people submit support tickets for "where there table is" Just don't have customer support tell them it's coming. actually escalate it to someone who can do something. I know for my order, my table is that expensive. Rustic Black Walnut Medium wide with toppers. But I have over 4000$ in accessories. that's 47 items your keeping in storage for just 1 or 2 things. You really just need to ship out the tables I was told 4-6 weeks back on Feb 7th. Still don't know when I'll get my table and it's been over 8 weeks. Since i was told max 6 weeks. and 4 months late from when I was supposed to get my order. I've put in 3 support tickets. still nothing. I was hoping the increase in production would drive up deliveries. but looking at your charts. it's been a steady decline week after week less is going out. more going into inventory. How hard is it to look at late orders and tally up what's missing and push it through. everything in my order is rustic black walnut.. PUSH some through production. back in feb the list I Was given. 54 BW rustic shield apron. 72 inch apron. topper block and topper block lid and hobby vault. poker chip holder. and matts. I'll cancel my matt order if I could get my table this month. I totally get it wyrmwoood. it's a hard problem to solve. And I don't know what the total fix is for mgt3. (i do data analysis for large companies) So If i had access to your data I could fix it. but in the short term. A.. look at tickets people subit for late orders. B look at the oldest orders C look at the largest old orders and push that stuff out.

For all we know, some of the orders could go immediately and the rest could follow on in a small Amazon size boxed for relatively low shipping.

    Yikes. No. Hobby shelves are freaking huge. I won't use them to replace the smaller modular components. Even if I did want to commit that much space, the plastic inserts are not as nice as wood. You gotta keep the component holder. It's the core concept behind what was "MGT". I've been wanting to order a few card holders, but the radius makes it usable only one way - on the inside rail. Would making the slots straight make manufacturing easier while at the same time making the part twice as useful for users - both usable on the inside and outside rails? Please keep that one.

Eliminating that shoulder and making the bowl bigger or making the entire thing smaller would be absolutely great. Also, keep the woods. The hobby stuff is really cool, but there’s also something about the wood and the quality. Silicone just inherently feels cheap even if it has something beautiful holding it

I bet a TON of people would happily pay an extra $20 to get the accessories later, and get the table right when its ready to ship. Plus side would be clearing out warehouse space, downside is having to double ship which is extra work. Other plus side is more happy customers faster. This is called Split Shipping, and is popular for Awaken Realms on Gamefound.
      I think the problem is that a *board game* split shipping is $20-30. Talking about the split for heavy accessories, it's probably in the $75+ range. Might still want to price it and figure out what the inventory space cost allows Wyrmwood to discount that shipping cost by.

    • @dcpjoncas
      @dcpjoncas 5 месяцев назад +3

      I would definitely pay for split shipping. Eithey way I'll end up paying:
      1) The opportunity cost of not enjoying the table between now and when it will eventually ship as a single order (at least 3 months).
      OR
      2) The extra cost of Wyrmwood would charge me to split my order.
      For me I think the opportunity cost is higher than the split order cost, but the best solution is for Wyrmwood to provide the option and let people decide what makes the most sense for them. Here I am assuming that shipping partial orders doesn't impact what Wyrmwood produces and so no one should be negatively impacted by this. If anything it'll should free up storage space and make Wyrmwood more efficient. The $25 gift card they sent me one 2 weeks ago as a "sorry your order is so late" is a nice token gesture, but I would much rather they just offer me the option of paying for breaking my order in two (or more).

It could also be used to fix the situation where you can fufill a small order to complete the shipping and ship out everything at once. Why don't you just "Temporarily" Nuke these lines, and then do them as a once or twice a year sale, where you collect all orders for them in one go and then produce enough in one continuous run to fulfill the orders you've gotten?

    I wonder if their Board Game bundles are going away. Only the dice tray is not nuked. Or if the new bundles will have the small hobby shelf.

    feels like the easy answer but i know it probably isn’t is there a reason you don’t over estimate for each piece say at end of month you need to 100 aim for 150 then you build your inventory

    Yes, reduce the product/sku complexity, that kills companies. You might make all the accessory tray products from a single inexpensive wood and have wood choice for the table or select items.

    Just panic-bought two card organizers in accessory exclusive woods, so there's at least two more you're gonna have to make. Let's prove Doug right!

    I wanted the power pack, but if it has that many issues. Personally I don't need my phone charged all the time but it nice to have a backup battery

    This is what I like to see...good business. Why survey for a 20-30% response rate tainted by feelings when you have 100% of the pure wallet data at your fingertips? Sure, some customers are going to complain about what they "intended to buy" or "wish they could buy", but at the end of the day, the numbers don't lie.

    I'm wood all the way. If I send this much on an AWESOME table, (and it is awesome), I do not want silicone. Silicone seems to cheap'n the table.

    Offer fewer woods and just packages.. one package might be 4 cupholders with 4 chargers etc. This will help lower your sku's
