“Limited circumstances” 😂 yall hilarious there’s like one stretch of road on earth it can drive
„You don‘t see lane splitting in any other parts of the World“ - Asia is still laughing 🤣
it is truly a trip seeing Tim on Engadget again
A good trip, I hope.
Hands back if going faster than 40?- I would almost never use this. But nice to see technology increasing in real usability.
Only works on very few freeways. Only works in good weather conditions. Only works during day. Only works with a car ahead. Only works up to 40mph. It's just useless. Mercedes engineers are going to quit their jobs when watching FSD 12.1.2 footage.
LOL. Except that the engineers at tesla are zero responsable if anything happens while in mercedes they don't. That's the difference.
@@javieru53 Even the driving system of a 3 years old Toyota would master these very few situations where Benz has lvl3. No challenge at all. It's marketing, nothing else and the whole industry is laughing.
@@kafiluz4317As the above comment has mentioned Tesla fanboys are part of the experiment…Tesla holds ZERO responsibility for hundreds of people who sacrificed their lives for Tesla cult! The RESPONSIBILITY is the difference!
@@quettagladiator5272
Hundreds who sacrificed their lives? Who are they?
And Mercedes joke system is just glorified extremely limited lane keeping system with start/go feature enabled...
This is level 3?! 🤔
Technically... Any Adaptive cruise control with stop/start feature can be level 3 if manufacturer takes responsibility for any damage which can happen while this system active. Difference between this system and existing ones is basically that Mercedes takes some responsibility, that's it. Tho in general it's even worse than other systems due to its enormous list of limitations. Free advertisement for Mercedes.
@@Zripaswhich is the best currently regardless of level ranking? Waymo? surely not Tesla?
@@slick3996
Depends, Waymo would be best "car on tracks" system which doesn't scale and never will. Tesla is best when it comes to actually autonomous cars with some things to be worked out. Both system are quite different on what those do and especially how it does it.
Waymo ONLY works in specific cities which got heavy 3D street scanning done beforehand and most of the things got preprogrammed into system to work in specific cars with specific equipment, while this can provide quick decent results, it can't be scaled up and it tends to freak out when something changes.
Yes. Becuase mercedes take care of this accident while level 3 drive… not like tesla…
@@tjkim
Tesla is level 2, whilethis mercedes joke system is just that, a joke. Its basically free advertisement for Mercedes and not actual innovation on any actual aspect. Just because you will have tiny chance in getting Mercedes to pay for damages, doesn't mean you should actually trust that system... Just check it limitations list... Clearly even Mercedes doesn't believe in their own system...
● It operates only on geofenced, precision mapped, limited access highways
● It operates only at speeds of 40 MPH and below
● It operates only in the same lane-no lane changes
● It operates only with a lead vehicle within 100 meters ahead
● It operates only in clear weather-no rain or snow
● It operates only with no direct sun on the cameras
● It operates only if the driver doesn’t avert his gaze from ahead for more than five seconds
● It operates only outside of tunnels
● It operates only with an internet connection
This is the dumbest fkin "self driving" system. So many restrictions to use
U say "in limited instances" I would fkin say "in EXTREEEEEMLY limited instances" 😂😂😂💀
More would be possible. But the difference is german and american risk taking. Tesla doesnt give a f while mercedes values security a lot more
@@rsauce6343 teslas are proven to be one of the safest on the roads. & FSD 12 is very capable & safe lol, Mercedes self driving is a fkin joke full of restrictions, when the fk can u even use it? Almost every scenario has one 2 restrictions that can instantly interrupt it lol, I'd rather have FSD actually doing self driving rather than ask my Mercedes if she would consent to self drive me in X scenario 🤷😑, sorry but the choice is literally a no-brainer in this tbh
@@CanisoGaming17 ppl dead, 768 accidents with Tesla Autopilot within last 4 years. Now count the level 3 death or accidents for the s class. Those Tesla fanboys arguments never get old. Level 3 does exact what it supposed to do. Traffic jam assist wich allows u to use ur smartphone or read a newspaper or watch a movie while in traffic jam on autobahn. The car has to pass a sort of driver license for that. Did Tesla pass even the test for level 3 yet? No…
@@Enforcers10 "Tesla fanboy arguments" ahhh the usual anti-Teslaboy insult 🤷😂. as far as we know every accident that was "blamed on autopilot' was disproved, even those that went through lawsuit (why did those not win??? 🤔🤔). Only the MSM still reported them as autopilot accidents.
+ Even so, autopilot and FSD are literally giving the driver disclaimer to be read and confirmed if they want to use it mentioning that it's in no way perfect & driver has to pay attention the whole time as the system is still a work in progress, have to use it responsibly, now if the driver falls asleep (as we see in the many clips shared gracefully by the MSM) or goes on his phone and accident happens then that's not just autopilot & FSD fault
@@CanisoGaming well u answered by urself, why they didnt win. so whats good with the autopilot, when u need to give full attension in every single second, and be ready to take the steering wheel? just a gimmic, not even allowed to use in the EU.
So it doesn't work over 40 mph, no lane changes, and disengages when it rains. All for $2500/year? Yeah no thanks 😂
Really, what are you getting out of this anyway? A CR-V's adaptive cruise can do 90% of all this. I am just surprised that Mercedes hyped this feature so much only to end here.
It's level 3, that's the difference @@TheAJKahn
Yeah there is a very bid difference. If an accident happens Mercedes is responsible. And Mercedes plans to increase the speed in the next year to 80mph.
Yeah, that one small sentence in the video about responsibility is the key: in order for Mercedes to be able take responsibility they need to legally prove, that the system is just as safe as any human driver (in the same conditions). This is huge. No other OEM has managed that.
@@locdogJ
No other OEM want's that, why would they? Mercedes can do this because there will be tiny amount of people with this joke system, tiny amount who can actually utilize it, and extremely tiny amount who gets into accidents because of all those restrictions, so they can afford few lawsuits and its generally even cheaper to pay out few millions for car accidents than to pay for advertisement, because they are now getting one for free.
I'm excited. I can't wait till it gets better.
is it possible to make a E class the same size as C class? i tried a EQE350 loaner, it's too long for my small garage. wait, e class the same size as C class? then it's a c class with e or s class technology
Just get a car with a start-stop adaptive cruise control, and even better , check for one that supports openpilot.
Far less restrictions, more than enough for what a driver would need, and no monthly payments or other shenanigans.
But what about level 2 versus 3?
Yup, my '19 Corolla has an adaptive cruise, it keeps the distance and if the other guy stops in the traffic light in the front, it stops the car too. Corolla can also steer, but IMO it sucks and cannot be trusted (I'm yet to test it while driving behind another car though), maybe a software update would fix that. Anyway, I don't see what is so new in this Merc.
Not enough steering torque to make 90 degree turns or even sharp corners at speed. Had the comma 2 in my civic and although it was cool, it’s no where near teslas fsd.
2500/y?? Are they crazy?
Better buy tesla and pay 10g
Tesla charges $200 per month so $2400 a year
@@NMEofdaST8 with the option to 'buy' it outright though. The biggest downside being no way to transfer it to another vehicle.
@@doslover Exactly not worth it without a transfer option especially. That’s over 6 years for it to break even

Difference is that Tesla works on any road and in any conditions and at any speed. So not really comparable here. This should be compared to Tesla free autopilot or at worse with enhanced autopilot which are made to work on highways, just like Mercedes joke system is.
i like it, make people learn to take the wheel sometimes
It needs to know where the road lines are hence only pre mapped cities. It has no eyes.
So only works 20% of the time. Very few cases where you’re going under 40 MPH.
Does holding a phone matter if you can use hands free phoning?
why do you compare it to L2 systems? those require you to pay attention to the road whereas with Mercedes' L3 system you can watch a movie legally and the car won't complain
What highway drive can keep you under 40mph long enough for you to watch a movie? 😂
@@jovanleon7anywhere in LA
Also it can't even change lane by itself. 😂 The name should be changed to Traffic Drive Assistant. A Tesla with fsd beta can do ALL those and infinitely more. You just need to touch the steering wheel once in a while. You WILL be able to watch a movie with a Tesla.
@@jovanleon7 To me it is amazing that Tesla has been beaten in FSD by other car companies which seem to be way ahead now. Hopefully they can keep up.
@@KM-bu5ywhave you ever used any of them?
Doesn’t change lanes. Lol.
Good video; terrible value feature. I generally appreciate Mercedes for being a premium, *reliable* brand that doesn't try to nickel and dime for things but the last few years have been disappointing.
AFAIK this is the only car where you can legally drive and read a book, work on your laptop, etc, while driving. And the company has full responsibility if accident happens at this time. Sure, it's only when you're stuck in traffic, but a lot of people spend an hour daily in this kind of situation. I would personally really love that, and I value it much higher than Tesla's so called "FSD".
Of course, beside traffic, you can still use standard autopilot when driving fast, with auto lane-change, etc., it's just level 2 and you have to pay attention.
Ain't no way this is more advanced than Tesla FSD, this is literally an insult to self driving 😂😂😂
Much more safer and reliable…If you search over internet hundreds of Tesla fanboys have died while testing FSD but it’s OK they have simply sacrificed their lives for Elon the cult leader!
I thought Mercedes was ahead of open pilot.
IT JUST COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE IF THE HWY 😮 WTF? IN REAL LIFE YOUD BE RUN OVER BY A TRUCK. EVEN TESLAS LEVEL 2 CAN PREDICT THIS AND STEER AROUND. WHICH TECHNICALLY SHOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS L3 BECAUSE IT MAKES DECISIONS AND INTERVENES.
LOL In other words it's a POS.
It doesn't take you from Point A to Point B turn-by-turn like the Tesla.
It doesn't do autopilot above 40MPH like the Tesla.
Yup, its a POS alright.
or you just work from home and bicycle to the cafe... if you can afford a $100k+ car, you can probably do that remotely.
Cool radar and sensors. Too bad it’s blind. No matter what, nothing beats having eyes in the long run.
You think radars aren’t eyes? OMFG we need to overhaul air traffic control!!!

What's the list of mercedes that do this. Does a engin version do it. Or I need electric ?

it is said in the video. its only available in s-class and eqs. so not only electric.
Too many restrictions, only upto 40mph, no rain, no night, no construction detour, no lane change.
this is obviously about the liability, where they promised to be liable for all damages
Benz Cars are better design but tesla FSD beta is great . it’s time for a relationship guys
@@cha8101
Unlike Tesla, Mercedes has some responsibility. An average Joe is still not ready for any sort of "auto" pilot. Also, Tesla driving assistant is very jittery.
You have to think about the progress, back in 2016 this was just happening in labs, give it another 6 years and we’ll be seeing full on race car mode driving skills
@@dualfluidreactor _they promised to be liable for all damages_
That's questionable. But even if they did, the risk to MB of an accident in their most expensive models paying $2,500 a year for a feature that only operates in traffic jams on selected precision-mapped, limited-access divided highways, in Nevada and California, during daytime, on dry roads, in clear weather is essentially negligible.
This is literally worse than cheap cars that have lane keep and adaptive cruise.
How wonderful, It went on a straight line for the whole video, pure crap!
Until these things are as good as an experienced driver who is alert and attentive, then this is not ready.
I bet there is a crash your insurance goes up. Mercedes ain’t paying for that
Mercedes is paying, that's the whole thing between L2 and L3. That's also why Mercedes restricts the system's use so heavily.
Agreed
Level 3 means liability falls on the auto maker I believe so Mercedes would be responsible
Why not work on a solution that elimates traffic 😢
the government should mandate any business that open 10+ hours a day must offer 4 days 10 hours work week. this will cut traffic and gas by 20% !
Comon use the T word it's not too hard
Bro, a company has legit taken an HTC cell phone, mounted it on the windshield and it costs like a $1000. That system is way better, this is trash from MERC...
I’ll wait for Civic to get a similar or better feature.
Or a Toyota
Lol. Only works under 40 MPH.
I dont see how this "level 3" is more advanced than level 2 tesla FSD. It doesnt even work over 40mph and doesnt change lane 😂
The levels means nothing, it’s just about legal liability
If Teslas’s system is so advanced they need to put their money where their mouth is and take legal responsibility for any accidents instead of suing everyone that gets into crashes when using it.
@@SuperAaron99 well it isn’t quite there yet. It is however miles ahead of this system.
@@SuperAaron99 just because a girl is confident and hot doesn't mean she has to be on Only fans or become a super model. High end speakers don't get advertised as THX compatible, but that doesn't mean they don't match and exceed the performance required by THX. Same thing with the FSD, so your argument is flawed. If you actually have experienced either and then see the demo of the other, then you will see clearly which one is more advanced.
Mercedes is basically saying "we guarantee your ice cream is going to be cold or we will pay for your ice cream. When the bar is set so low, it's really hard to fail.
@@IronCan88 huh? You make the weirdest comparisons. Money talks, so far Tesla does not put their money where their mouth is. If it’s so good, take responsibility, otherwise it’s a bunch of talk.Ive been in my friend’s S Plaid with “FSD”. It was impressive for sure, but at one point, in a construction zone it almost ran into a concrete divider on the side of the highway. So I know for sure why they won’t take responsibility for it. This was a year or so ago though.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I totally failed to see point of this system. Most adaptive cruise control systems and Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot do a lot more, and much better than this system. $2,500 a year? Mercedes must be joking.
With Tesla's system you are still responsible for any accidents. With this system you are not.

I would trust this system less than Tesla... So I would pick that one instead of Mercedes even if I could sue Mercedes after the fact.
There are so little instances where this could be used that its just... Silly...
The only thing I like it better than FSD is the blue-purple light.
Damn this is a mess. Makes me appreciate teslas fsd a lot more
This Mercedes is a lot of money for very little value.
Fools who don’t understand how autonomy works. Can’t do anything on very limited roads. “Yeah it’s better than Tesla”
Fully hands free, 😂 only under 40 mph, as long as it’s nit night driving, oh forgot to mention can’t drive in the rain… don’t change lanes…. 😂😂😂😂
They totally rushed this to beat Tesla fsd to level 3. This is a complete joke of level 3 autonomy!
This is brutal. Tesla FSD is way better. That’s totally clickbait. 40 MPH 😂
No, absolutely no! MB is such a joker 😂
Well nobody is talking about Tesla FSD beta here knowing that it is doing better than any car companies, except real FSD cars that is doing ride shares already with tons of radars and cameras around.
When Tesla does it even better with FSD 12.3 for a one time cost of $12k, paying 2500 a year not so appealing!!!
FSD: $1200/year
It didn't look like the car moved much for motorcycles and maybe even responded a little late.
How come they claim it "level 3" but they didnt have the gut to test it out? A level 3 car should be able to drive effortlessly like a normal person on highways or local streets. Cmon, with all the sensors and lidars, I was expeting something fun from this test. Let the car drive in local streets as well, let see if their Level 3 is better than Tesla FSD beta. Any regular car with adaptive cruise control can easily pass this test !
Why didn't they? If adaptive cruise control can do it why wouldn't they hype it as level 3 FSD? Seems like easy marketing.
best is to take a nap... oh no nap?! :(
Without full chauffer mode, these are all gimmicks or just dangerous temptations to not pay attention to the road. Totally don't see the point until the endgame.
Tesla charges $200 per month so $2400 a year
That price is for those that haven't bought the software as a one-off purchase. It's not meant to be an ongoing monthly solution
@@James-lw3gi Why not lol who wants to drop 15k all at once for software that’s not ready. And it goes away if you sell the car anyway
There's no comparision even when it comes to features. It's a completely different system. Tesla does not have any system which allows you to watch a movie while driving, legally.
@@NMEofdaST8 So wrong. You can transfer your FSD once you buy a new Tesla. And when you bought it for 7K and can sell it for 15k to the next owner, thats a 8k earning. So many lies out there about Tesla.

Tesla autopilot is way better than this. Lidar is an old technology.
Lidar was used back in the days when computers weren't able to render camera records to virtual 3d environment. Tesla has done it almost perfectly. FSD 12.1.2. is the ultimate proof that Lidar is doomed and there is no use for it anymore (wouldn't work in rain anyway).
