I would find it very believable if Ash gets a new Pikachu everytime he starts in a new region since Pikachus power level keeps fluctuating through out the series.
This isn't ash's nightmare. This is what we think ash's nightmares will be - pikachu evolving to raichu - winning pokemon league becoming the very best - and growing up past 10 yrs old.
The only flaw in the short is that it wasn’t Ash’s desire that Pikachu remained in that state. It was Pikachu’s desire. So, technically that shouldn’t be in Ash’s nightmare.
