It doesn't matter who or what you were . We all age, get old. You can't escape old age. Having $$ may change your outer appearance, but it can't change what time does to your body. Your organs slowing down, wearing away with time. Although he was 89, he's still that same man who committed horrible atrocities back in the day. Age doesn't equit him of the crimes he did.

Jimmy didn't sell drugs, he took payments from the dealers who wanted to sell in South Boston. He actually tried keeping the harder drugs out, but that shit always will make it's way into every neighborhood.

@@jaggirl The fact that ppl would congregate at Triple O's around closing time to get their drugs essentially meant that they were getting their drugs from Whitey. That was his hang out, everyone knew it. My dad grew up in Southie on West 9th St., went to Southie High and knew Billy moreso than he did Jimmy.
The thing about the time during Whitey's reign was there was always an aura around him, just the mention of his name was considered a no-no. He wielded a TON of power, and as vile a person as he was, if you were a neighborhood "Townie" type that was clean, Whitey not only didn't mess with you, but there was a VERY good chance a person would be in major trouble if that person messed with someone who lived in Southie. My dad had moved back to Boston to find work as an architect (architectural jobs in Maine were scant, where our family lived at that time), and he drove a white Gran Torino, which was a sought-after car for car jackers. So one morning my dad gets up to go to work, and his car is gone. He was pissed, but took the subway into work. Later that night dad was still pissed, and he went down to a local Southie bar to vent about what happened to his car. Apparently the wrong person at the bar overheard what happened to my dad, and the next day his Gran Torino was returned to him, and they found a body of a 20-something kid in a dumpster not too far away. I remember my dad was shaken by what had happened, and shortly after he moved out of his mother's (dad's childhood) home on W 9th, and moved the family to nearby Arlington. Good or bad, that's just how Southie was back then.

Bulger absolutely did control the drug trade, everyone in the area knew that. He only kept out other hard drug dealers inorder to keep out competition

Michael’s older brother “Frank The Tank” was till this day one of my hero’s along with some of his friends. Unfortunately for me like Michael, I lost some close friends and family members to Mr.Bulger’s bullshit. These journalists don’t know shit about anything in and around Boston especially Howie Carr. Carr a along talking shit and getting facts and time lines wrong plus putting people’s lives on the line with his story telling. There were so many guys in high places involved and Bulger was anything but a “Robin Hood” period. Guys like Pat Née or Ricky should’ve ran that town and Whitey only became powerful because he had protection back up from Feds,Judges and other people with power. God Bless Michael and Ma MacDonald. God bless Ricky and Mr. Nee. God bless my Mother and Father’s entire family most of born,raised and stayed in Southie. I wouldn’t trade those memories for the world and I wish we could’ve moved back there and Mom didn’t because of me her youngest boy. Southie itself was like a drug and had such an ora about it you’d get sucked in and as much as kids wanted out and loved the rural country places something always made you go back. 3 or 4 guys and I’m not defending them are getting the full penalty and blame for everything that probably close to 100 of other people combined took part in and some of the most powerful enabled. How was Michael or anyone else suppose to tell their story when 1. You code is never rat. 2. Who could you really trust back then? And 3. Did you want some asshole journalists like Carr telling your story and getting you and family or close friends killed then he’d get credit for a great write up at your expenses? Sean Baggen the imperial Dragon : Bobby was a good guy but like most of those guys he was mixing and running around with all the “Usual Suspects.” My entire family knew Bobby and he was even in 2 of their wedding parties. I knew Bobby since was in diapers by short lived since he went on “Extended Vacation.” Funny guy. I spoke about him because I got tired of the same old regurgitated flin-flam crap. That kinda stuff was being done by Patriarca. I think since I came & went for years that maybe leave the book writing to guys like Michael Patrick. There’s so many stories that will be locked away under all those dirty Boston streets and water ways. I can’t even figure my way around that place anymore. @thenewschmoo : He did supply. Him and Patrick Nee. Difference is Bulger did it to benefit himself and Mr. Nee was true to his convictions. As kids some of the older guys would say to us “For the Cause,Lads.” Put their hand out which meant we gave 1/2 a Sawbuck or whatever we had and that money was suppose to go towards supplying our Irish brother’s in Ireland. Most of it probably went to Triple O’s or Cornerstone Pub for drinks. Fuck we were scoring from Gillette’s every other week. Had a couple really big scores from Filene’s Basement. Then in 1989 Bulger had me beat up. Then deny’s it up & down to my Uncles who would’ve slaughtered him. Funny thing when the young guys he hired got their pay backs he didn’t defend them! I should’ve drowned his ass in Florida ,when I bumped into him in 1996. When I was real young, my older cousin Raymond pushed him off of boat going over to Deer Island. Whitey slapped a kid really hard and Ray was not having any part of that. Bulger use to work transfer ing boys to the reformatory school.
