I have one got it last week (traded in my 1.4L Gti 2014 in on it). Got it with all the options. It's very good. The 18" wheels do make for better handling (cause I test drove one with the std 17" wheels). The biggest thing I noticed was the cars engine does not seem to "work" as hard as the previous models (the 1.4 and the 1.8) to deliver the same power and speed, so it does not feel like I'm stressing the engine. All in all its a good solid drive, very similar to to the golf 7 Gti. (My brother has a mk7 Gti) this polo sits very close to it, and the launch control is almost better than the mk7 Gti and in 0 -100km against the golf, it's basically like splitting hairs. Obvously the Gti 7 still has abit more pull in the higher gears and the polo almost starts to limit at around 235kmph while the golf can still pull past that. But from robot to robot, a Gti 7 owner would be hard pressed to best it cause I can tell you....it is well capable of keeping up to its older brother. Best part is they now manufacture them in my country (South Africa) so the car actually comes in around almost 5% cheaper than the 1.8L which was previously imported. To me it was a no brainer......this car is good, it defiantly surpasses both previous polo Gti models by a long shot.
@@hehehehahaha3150 It's sold !!!! Unfortunately after a about 6 months a few faults started to appear, rubbing noise when reversing etc, so i was offered a deal on a PP Gti golf and traded it in

Engine, although EA888 family member, is quite different from the Golf GTI engine. For instance, it has high 11.8:1 compression rato, so called lean-burn-cycle, to reduce fuel consumption (Golf is 9.6:1). As the compression is so high, engine tuning by cranking up the boost should be done with care... to avoid pistons taking off through the bonnet... And there are quite a few other hardware changes, you can refer to the SSP (Self Study Program) from VW for more info. Also, you can check the engine code, first 3 letters are the hardware, 4th letter is the engine tune. The engine code is always shown, for instance in the door-sill, or on the spec sheet in the service booklet.
It's a shame that this car wasn't the plus version, it looks much better with the full digital gauges and the led headlights. I know it's just the looks, but especially the led lights make a significant difference.
I am so glad you did review of this model in standard looking form with the 17" wheels, standard headlight and speedo. Those extras can add up to so much in certain countries that you are almost at a Golf GTi price
Nice car that new Polo GTi but I would have none of that red paint on the interior. Think it looks hideous and makes the car feel way less premium to sit in. Can you comment on a cars brakes on future reviews in terms of how the pedal feels, are they weak or strong, grabby or progressive, does the car stay on line under hard braking? etc, as its an important factor on performance cars.......
I've had mine ordered since June (GTI+ with 18" alloys, white) and it still doesn't have a build date... dealer says Jan/Feb/March 2019 for delivery.. sick of waiting!!
Thank you bro! Currently don’t have any plans for a Focus ST video as got a few different cars to film first, but should have a Fiesta ST on the way 👍🏼
Wait for the new S1 though, it's on the MQB platform too so it'll be almost the exact same as the Polo. The top spec new A1 has 200hp like the Polo GTI so add some power and Quattro for the S1 and you've got a mental little machine
Quite sure it has the same IS12 turbo as the previous polo gti but only difference is capacity ea888 2.0 vs ea888 1.8. If it is the IS12 then the gains should be similar to the previous one around 250bhp with a remap
It’s nice but I personally prefer the previous 6C GTI. Hope to get one in the near future. I prefer the sportier 3 door looks and the fact it’s a 1.8 means it’s cheaper on insurance, not too keen on the red dash on that new GTI I think it makes it look cheap.
Dan L i dont mind the interior, but i sort of like the simplistic exterior the 1.8 has. And the cheaper insurance is always good. They are the same 0-100km/h

The new ones I'll only driven in normal and economy mode, so I've averaged 5.9-6.9L/100kms. Fuel lasts longer for me in the 2L. Hope this helps.
It's just a shame that the waiting list in the UK is 6 months!! How did you spec the car and do you regret not getting some options or think that you don't need some that you may have? Thanks, much appreciated 😃

For anyone watching this video in 2021, the engine in this car is not the same as the one in the Golf GTI, It actually has the same engine as the Tiguan. It has the EA888 gen 3b while the golf has the EA888 gen 3a!
It makes no sense having a car that moves so fast in Europe when the speed limit is 20mph, 30mph, 40mph, 50mph and 70mph max. I drove a Mercedes Benz A180 after my Polo Beats and it feels the same at those speeds just the take off that's more intense
