Apple is often criticized for overcharging when it comes to hardware. When it comes to mobile devices, they typically make well by offering many years of free updates to iOS. On the Mac, however, most machines enter un-supported vintage status after just 6 years. In Windows land, there are computers many years older running the latest build of Windows 10. But what if you could use the same method that Hackintosh computers use to run a vintage Mac on the latest-and-greatest macOS Mojave and later? Well, turns out you can.
It was a long day! I misspoke. The 2009 MacBook isn't running High Sierra pre-upgrade. It's running El Capitan!
I was really confused with the background and age of the laptop haha! Great video though!

Luke Miani you and snazzy inspired me to get in the Mac game I have a 2017 late 4K iMac ...... 2012 Mac mini and 2009 MacBook like in this video
You can find old MacBook airs and they’ll last longer. Don’t waste your money on this model. Only good for a RUclips video not real life.
Hi Luke, I follow you on your channel as well...The problem with your comment about buying a used mac (which I do) is that Apple is now soldering everything to the motherboard which means theres no future upgradability on them. This is why, every time Apple starts boasting about how "Green" they are, I simply laugh at their hypocrisy since you are now, basically forced to upgrade to a New system in order to stay up to date. I just bought a 2015 Macbook Air which allowed me to upgrade it to a 1 TB SSD. The current Macbooks (New Air, Pro, and 12" Macbook) do not allow this at all.
@@mrhats830 While you're right and that does impact upgradability, recent Macs last a lot longer than they used to, even without the ability to upgrade. The mid 2000s Macs were short lived compared to the last ten years or so. Even if you can't upgrade, using them for longer reduces waste
Holy shit it's Luke! What's up dude?!

Just bootcamp the macbook to Windows, so you can run all your latest apps on a Windows partition. You can download Windows for free, but never activate it (but this wont allow you to customise your OS like the desktop wallpaper, but you can crack the activation for free)
you can always use web browser ms office word etc.

The Lenovo Thinkpad T480 has 2 batteries, 1 internal and 1 removable. When you run out on the external, you take it out and the power is transferred to the internal battery. Then you put in another external battery and the laptop runs off that. No closing the lid required.

"por que no los dos" Exactly!!!!
Why not both?
before any of us had macs, my mom would constantly buy passable pcs ..they’d last a couple years and then be replaced
but i do remember she once looked at the classic, white plastic macbooks around 2010 - she loved the aesthetic
a couple years ago when i first got a job and suddenly had a bit of money to my name i stumbled upon a series of refurbished macbooks
so i got her one for her birthday 😊 she was pretty blown away
admittedly it is a little slow and she does t use it much - stuck to her iPad; which to be fair, is all she really needs
but i wonder how hard it would be to replace and update the memory and maybe the storage 🤔
Omg i loved when you said “por qué no los dos” haha
Well done. Did you bring the c200 into Best Buy or wherever that was? Would have loved to see the faces of people in the store.
Shot on an iPhone XS. 😉
I had two of those Polycarbonate Mac's back in the day. They were good. I wrote and compiled some of the V2 versions of the iHeartRadio iPhone app on those. The only issue I found was that top layer of plastic would chip or delaminate around the palm rest area.
Jason Coulls I experienced the very same issue Jason, and my family at the time had one each, so it happened of four Mac machines. When I took mine to the local apple store they said they’d replace the top surfaces on each of them free of charge. Delighted. 👍

win10 is crap, 7 is much better but still linux is a lot better
Yeah. Windows 10 is miserable, and IMO, the worst computer OS in history. 10 is a bottom tier user experience, easily outclassed by the likes of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, MacOS from 10.11 onwards, Ubuntu (and its derivatives) from 11.04 onwards, and even alpha-state OSes like ReactOS.
@@TurboPikachu
Yea, no lmao. I've been using W10 since beta and I've had no major problem, ever. With windows 8 on the other hand.. oh boi. Yeah that was a shitty OS.
8.1 was better but W10 is in my opinion, the best Windows Microsoft ever made. Yes it's better than W7 and yes it's better than XP.
enjoy your bloatware, windows/cortana spying on you and shitty interface (settings/control panel separated)
@@-eMpTy- Windows 8 and 8.1 were ugly as sin, but they were actually by far the most stable Windows OS I had ever worked with. Conversely, Windows 10 is the least stable I've ever worked with, even less so than my experiences with Windows ME and XP. And these negative experiences with Windows 10 aren't isolated -- they span across OEM laptops, OEM desktops, and a custom computer I built for gaming. The forced updates (that only allow for temporary deferral and don't allow themselves to be deleted) have resulted in corrupted/failing updates to continuously try over and over again, making for unnecessary *daily* reboots on afflicted PCs; this issue hitting my custom build in particular especially hard as it had one quality-of-life update for build 1709 stuck in a daily restart attempt-fail loop that caused my PC to refuse to update to 1803 unless that QOL update finished first. Win10 never let me delete that QOL update while it was in its attempt-fail cycle, and it didn't delete itself until 94 failed attempts, THREE MONTHS after build 1803's release...
I had inconsequential little updates in Windows 8/8.1 end up in a looping attempt-fail cycle once or twice a year, but removing problematic updates was as swift and painless on 8/8.1 as it was in 7. 10's way of updating, on the other hand, is like a hostage situation unless you pirate LTSB edition or go through the agonizing hell of messing with the Group Policy Editor in Home/Pro editions (which is something I still can't get past roadblocks in after more than 3 years with Windows 10)
The good times when the macbook was easier to upgrade than any dell. I miss this computer.

I reckon you could do the same with a 2010 Mac Pro?
Expat_Laz I’m thinking that too
More or less every 64-bit Intel Mac.
If you put a metal enabled graphics card in a 2010 Mac pro you can natively install to Mojave
It still requires some tweaks in order to run Catalina, but it does work on my Mac Pro 5,1 with a RX 5600 XT installed.
Now I finally have something to do with that stack of three 07' macbooks I got for $20, thank you for this.
Wait you can change the ram and SSD in a macbook??? Why did they get rid of this in the first place
They stopped doing this on the Mid 2012 Macbook Pro
which is the one I bought one with an 4 core i7 for 380 and and upgraded it running a boot Raid0 and 16GB ram.
Planned obsolescence perhaps.
Money
They got rid of this Bc Apple is against self repair and etc now. They want you to pay more upfront as well to upgrade to make sure they get the money directly. They don’t want you buying your own parts where they won’t receive the payment
Shortsighted greed. Relative to the years in which the various models were released, the MacBook (if not the ENTIRE Mac product line) hasn't improved that much since the first Retina model and yet Apple keeps charging premium prices for them... which inevitably results in lower sales, especially from experienced customers like me that see how utterly ludicrous it is to keep buying a new laptop (or desktop) every year.
Haha, wow, I _JUST_ completed a refurb of an old 2009 MacBook Pro by replacing HD with new (but smallish, but FAST) SSD, swapping in new battery, adding RAM and using this patcher. What a coincidence. And that old MBP is just fine with it's Core 2 Duo CPU.
Are you going to sell it? How much are these going for?
@@necromax13 No, my daughter is using it. They are not worth very much, less than $100 I think, without upgrades. The upgrades were not cheap. They cost almost $200 (the battery was $90), but it's a completely useful computer for $200.

I just installed mojave on my 2011 imac and it runs pretty damn good, except that you can tell there is no hardware acceleration with the graphics. still though, it looks pretty good, and its running pretty fast. i also reused the exact same solid state drive that was used in this video (samsung 1tb 860 evo) and it runs great. hesitant to try running catalina though.. don't think the speeds will be very good on it!
If you don't have acceleration is horrible!
That's because of what GPU your machine has, and the patcher web page tells you about this. Unfortunately, you are stuck to High Sierra, unless you put a supported GPU in your machine.
If you can find one that supports Metal and is supported natively in Mojave and Catalina, it's even better!
It means you can easily patch to the latest version of macOS!
