Thank you so much for this video. It saved me a lot of trouble when I changed my daughter’s alternator last weekend. The garage wanted to charge her $1400 for an alternator and battery. I did both of those plus an oil change and changed the belt for $500 thanks to your very helpful video. Much appreciated
Thanks for your video. I ended up doing this job today and recorded it with the detailed steps. Your video made my life easier today!
Gota say THANK YOU ! for this video, Ours was slightly different with the hoses (Canadian 2012, 3.6L) however, came out just like yours, only difference was that there was the reservoir hose that went to an aluminum pipe just above the alt. Thank you again... Shop quoted 450, to change, and 400 for the alt, NAPA was 385, saved the labor cost.....
Great video my friend worked like a charm for me you definitely have to have the alternator turn the exact right way to get it out and back in other than that great video works great keep it up. I suggest when putting the belt on if you haven’t watched a video yet get the belt on all pull-ups and on the tensioner pulley and get someone to slip it over the alternator pulley at the end seems to work the best and I watched two videos
Worked like a charm! Got mine out in about a half hour wheels and all. Now I can bring this one for core. 😂
A good way to tell that you have disconnected/ unplugged your alternator, is to indeed disconnect/ unplug it. Good video and good fix, other than starting to film after disassembly. Just busting your chops, as we do in this field.
Thanks worked on a 2016 Journey . Great Video
Appreciate the video!! Made my job a breeze.
Thanks for your video. I have a 2013 Journey with 108000 and hoping the alternator lasts a couple more years. Good job removing this alternator and I thank you for this method. It looks much easier than doing it under the car and moving the AC compressor. Do you like the Pentastar V6 engine? I have not heard much about it from reviews online. I like this engine it seems to be very quiet and has plenty of power. The transmission seems to shift a bit hard between second and third gear sometimes. Changed transmission fluid and it seems to be smoother.
Heads up, there may be a plastic cover over the top of the alternator. It’s held on by two nuts. It looks like a metal bracket that you would have to somehow remove, but you don’t. Take off the nuts and the plastic cover comes off. Then you’re left with two more nuts, like shown in the video. My 2016 is like this. I thought I had to remove the valve cover to get the top bracket out but when I pried on it it flexed and popped off.
Awesome great freaking video made it so simple
Great work sir.
Great video will this work with a dodge caliber
Much easier! Thank you!
That's interesting. So the "shortcut" videos of this show to pull the AC compressor, and pull the alternator through the bottom. It seems MUCH easier to take it through the top.
Did you drain any of the coolant before pulling the upper rad hose?
I would say he "drained" it, but as you see in the bucket on the floor, and as he stated in the video, some coolant may leak out when disconnecting the upper radiator hose. So just capture it in a bucket and pass it thru a filter back in the reservoir, or just purchase some 50/50 mix and top it off.
wouldnt*
Good looking out dude.
awesome video! does this work for a 2013 Dodge Journey ???
I'm with you? Does it work for a 2013?
@@rebelrose9061 yes it does.
I could listen to him saying "and then " whole day😅
you prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can watch pretty much all the latest movies and series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my brother for the last months :)
@Kieran Thomas definitely, have been using Instaflixxer for since november myself =)
Thanks uncle rob
Thank you so much
Thanks bud good video
Thanks man
Thanks a bunch now I can get stoned sooner.
In the previous video he gave. The Dodge Journey an epidural!
Hi, do You have the partnumber of this alternator? THX
2009, but the video description says 2012. Is there a difference?
Yeah. By about 3 years..
the innuendos near the end lol.
Good video, except never ever remove the positive battery connection first!
It really don’t matter I’ve changed some many batteries with removing the positive first
Just got mine done at the shop they replaced it with a generator? Why would they do this also 600 for the part and 500 for shop time is crazy
Prices seem steep! An alternator is terms can be classified as a generator of sorts. Some people use the term generator for an alternator. Common issue on Journeys. I know FCA put out a recall on a lot of their alternators. Maybe check into that. They may even reimburse you some of the cost, not sure though.
@@brettgiles1496 they should recall the whole terd box
In the most strict technical sense a generator generates current in a single direction based off of a mechanical input. An "alternator" is a generator that reverses current back and forth. Basically, generator provides DC current, alternator provides AC current.
That however isn't always how it is used. Cars up into the 60's (when powered accessories like A/C, power locks, etc. came along) used true DC generators as that was enough. Alternators came along to help run stuff that needs AC current and have become the norm in the day of computer controlled engines. Mechanics still swap the turns quite often.
Video was helpful.you forgot to mention the few added words needed to say to help get things out.(curseing)😂
Changed the thermostat out at the same time.since i had the rad hose off and its winter time here in canada. Eh!! And the heat wasnt blowing much.
What video is this I want learn to remove an alternator and u have’s outside of vehicle I didn’t learn much of u video
Thing is, lot more space in that engine bay than my Chrysler 3.6l😒
NOT the 3.6 V6 engine in my 2009 Dodge Journey; this must be for the 4 cylinder. Wrong video description, and wrong vehicle mentioned at the beginning.
It says 3.6l vvt right on top of the engine cover plus the RT on the grill is another thing that is 3.6. I have the same 3.6 vvt so you are wrong
@@Jean-bf8rt The 2009 doesn't feature variable valve timing.
😂😂😂 love how you describe this
And then !
The shop I take my caravan said it gonna take few hour’s 🥴 men wahhhh!
AND THEN, I showed you none of my work.
Title.says 2012 BUT he says 2009...
Mine is a 2012 and does not look like this...🤔
is yours a 3.6?
😁🙏✌👍🚘
Not too bad of a project? When you have to take wheels of to get to the belt tensioner, it's automatically a stupid project. Damnit I was hoping for a better answer.
Next time show your work. Otherwise the video is pointless you could've just typed your process out and blogged it on a forum
