I have a strong background in working on cars, and I am watching this video because I have never replaced an alternator on a 2013 Dodge Journey and am just looking for locations of bolts, hints, tips and tricks. Excellent video, no BS, just the facts and I feel that this video made my install go much quicker but was detailed enough to give confidence to someone who doesn't have a lot of care repair experience. Again, great job.
Bro I'm only 1 minute into the video, and I can tell you're a good dude. So many guys get on here and because they know a little something, they act arrogant and ignorant in their videos. I quit watching them, but the point is, thank you for being a stand up guy. I'll watch the video now lol.
And I would like to thank you for your kind words I really appreciate that. I really try to be a good person and try to help people because when it comes to other things in life I sure have watched other peoples videos. Like no joke I really suck at cooking and RUclips is really help me out a lot there. So I think it’s a great place where people can learn from each other. Anyways wherever you’re at my friend I hope you have a good day or a good night. ✌️👍
Yes sir. That's how it should be. Here's something I've learned, I'll show you how its done. Nothing wrong with a joke but don't belittle people. Awesome job bro. Coming at you from N.C.

Just wanted to say you are phenomenal at explaining. Had to replace mine today same make same model and you helped me so much. Appreciate you man much love
Great job and video im going to be doing the same job for my grandson I also suggest taking a multimeter and checking where you disconnected the battery and see if your new alternator is putting out enough votes to charge the battery should be over 13 votes Once again great job man
Great job explaining this, and thank you for mentioning the battery indicator. I change my battery and a half of a mile later, the battery indicator light came back on, so it had to be the alternator. I like the Rambo skit as well
I would like to take the time to thank you for your video. A better warning for the radiator hose.. yes, the neck broke off and I also had to learn how to put the radiator in!!! A$300 mistake. Next time I'll grab a heat gun. I'm up and running perfect so far. Thanks again and you earned my sub. It was a long, cold, wet day(Chicago area), but thanks to uou I can get to work tomorrow. Ps, you video was EXACTLY how I did it. Sooo happy here man
Nice video! Glad to see more of the journey videos. I ended up doing the same job a few months back and filmed it. You did a great job explaining everything!
Thanks man and if people can’t understand my video they should check out your video too. There’s always more than one way of doing things and explaining how to do it and the more videos in the more people showing how to do it then we’re bound to please one person and show them how it’s done. 👍✌️
Great video well put together and easy to follow I have a 2015 Dodge Journey R/t and I am going to buy a new Alternator just in case mine go bad I will have and know how to fix it without going to a shop. Thank you again for the video.
Great video... I'm having trouble get the bottom bolt. It's just behind on one of the wheels that hold the belt. I can't get it out, or maybe it's not the right bolt? Please advise, thank you so much!!
Hi👋. Enjoyed video. Followed instructions except for battery connections. Broke 2 small wires on negative terminal. What do they run. How important are they as they connect to ground cable?
Thank you very much I'm waiting for a video on how to replace the oil filter housing video because I have a leak there one of the mechanic did it but I didn't know until it was too late also at the same time I will replace the SPARK PLUGS (Thanks to your video super detailed) so I can do both at the same time....
Love this video! But I'm stuck at the beginning. The smaller rad hose is fused onto the metal side. How can release it without needing to replace the hose? Wiggling the hose isn't doing anything 😩
Great video now that you've shown a tremendous way of removing and installing the alternator. But I've gone through quite a few videos on what hoses those are on the bottom right in your video pause at 9:25 and to the right of your finger the thicker hose is called? I have a coolant leak and I need to know if that's a lower radiator hose or bypass or heater or you get my drift? Please 🙏 answer soon found the coolant leaking and I believe the culprit is that thick hose
The one on the left is an antilock brake line and the one on the right goes to the brake caliper itself, it is a hydraulic hose that provides brake fluid to the brake caliper. If you have any other questions, please ask. 👍
Yeah I remember when they used to be but unfortunately on this Dodge Journey the tensioner tool is much smaller than a ratchet head I would say it’s only about a half a centimeters thick whereas the ratchet that I use is probably about an inch to an inch and a half.
What symptoms make change the alternator and not just the battery igot 2012 Dodge Journey sxl and battery light just come on is the mean I need new battery or alternator thanks for the video
The best way is to use a multimeter on your battery while the car is running and if it is 14 Volts And that means the alternator is working and it’s probably your battery but I will give you this link that goes in the more details and hopefully you will get it figured out easily. www.batteriesplus.com/blog/power/car-battery-alternator-and-starter
Can anyone tell me what thr difference between this and a 2010 alternator? A lot of videos say 2011-2017 journey but i cant find any for a 2010. Gonna do mine this weekend just want to be prepared. Thanks!
To be honest I really don’t know unless you are a welder and can fabricate your own tool I really recommend using the tensioner tool because it is small enough to fit in that tight spot that the tensioner is in.
I was also curious about this, the part that goes into the tensioner looks very similar to a 3/8" drive that simply goes into any 3/8" drive socket is that correct? I couldn't see it clearly in the video. If so and you could get a 3/8" drive wrench in there with a long enough handle maybe you could use that instead?
Yes and no technically the drive is that size but the reason why they made the tensioner tool is because the head of the ratchet is too thick to fit in between the frame of the car and onto the tensioner so that is why they made the tensioner tool because it is made super skinny in width. But if you can find something else that can fit in between that space and has a little bit of leverage that could move the tensioner that would work but in my case I just found it a lot easier to go rent the tensioner tool at my local auto parts store.
As a first timer having to do this myself. I really do appreciate the information you give in this video
You are welcome, my friend. 👍

Nice work sir! Guessing this will work on a 2014 Journey SXT as well?
Should be the exact same.
Should the process be the same in a 2015 Dodge Journey SXT 3.6L?
Yes
Also I'm looking for a video to fix rear no heat issue the blower blows cold air
I have the same car SXT FWD version 2013.
Thank you
I will have that video out next week, I just done that job today.
The tensioner used to be the same size as your ratchet head, have they changed them, just curious. It is foreign, so I don't know
Yeah I remember when they used to be but unfortunately on this Dodge Journey the tensioner tool is much smaller than a ratchet head I would say it’s only about a half a centimeters thick whereas the ratchet that I use is probably about an inch to an inch and a half.
Does it matter which hose you move first? I’m working on mines right now and I’m currently at the hose part

I hate those type of hose clamps, I always replace them with the hose clamps that tighten/loosen with a screwdriver.
I think that is a good idea to do that. 👍

@@Mr_Goody I just changed it, thanks a bunch brother 💪
Awesome good job man 👍
Great video! Do you by any chance have the Torque specs for the alternator bolts?
Should be 40 ft. Lbs
What kind of tool can I use to do this job if I don't have money for a tensioner tool?
To be honest I really don’t know unless you are a welder and can fabricate your own tool I really recommend using the tensioner tool because it is small enough to fit in that tight spot that the tensioner is in.

@@Mr_Goody I had a tensioner tool and also a 3/8 flex. I actually used the 3/8 flex ratchet worked good.
Please remind people to unhook ground first, and positive second. Install positive first ground second.
Good video. But,..... if you put the ground on after the Positive you won't have a shocking experience.
Please disconnect negative first and then positive. if you do the positive first and wrench slips and hits metal you will have a short
No need to reset batt light just goes off
You can use a 3/8 long handle ratchet to release tension on the tensioner, too it fits in the square notch.
Thank You for the tip. 👍
