I lost my job suddenly in 1991. My employer pulled my job out from under me, 3 months after I had bought my home. When I read the news articles and watched video clips about Arrow Trucking pulling the trucks out from under their drivers the way they did, with no warning, I was not surprised. I remembered my own experience. This seems to be the way businesses treat their workers in America nowadays.
I was in the pilot in Wolcott... When I heard a driver trying and crying for help to get home , he had spent all his money on his kids for Christmas.. very sad!
i am an ex arrow driver. i am currently deployed in supprot of OIF/OEF. i got screwed while i worked there. i miss driving but i had friends that still dorve there and i was actually gonan come back to them so i could drive again but guess that wont happen now. hope i can find a job when i get home cuz i need to get back behind the wheel of a truck soon or i am gonna go crazy. lol. see yall when i get home from the sandbox.
no worries .. you're just expressing your relief that for now you have a job. Anyone should understand that. Often times it's more stressfull to see others lose their jobs, and you're still working. It's called survivor's remourse. I had it earlier this year when 500 of my co-workers were let go. A week later I was in the hospital with chest pains. Turned out to be stress/panick. Stay healthy, take care of yourself, and do what you can for those you can. Shalom
Somebody needs to grab that wrecker right there, head on over to 27th and Peoria, and repo anything Dougie Pielsticker's that ain't tied down, sell it off and send the money to the people Arrow's screwed over, starting with those drivers we've had to wrangle home, and fellas like the mechanic you mentioned, etc. The whole thing has been ridiculous for some time now, it seems, but this ending really takes the cake.
Is it the drivers fault that 100 trucks sat in the Tulsa yard daily? Are we as drivers supposed to find our own loads? We worked for Arrow twice, once B4 Old man Died and as recent as 14 months ago. 700 miles a day to delivery then SIT 2-3 Days. You must be one of the smart ass dispatchers that always said WAIT in ur truck! If operations were doing their jobs Arrow would still be running like always. If Sonny boy had gotten his X-box taken away sooner this might have been avoided.
I stand corrected slightly, It seems the owner was living a little above his means. Still with the company being broke and about 8 lawsuits being filed at this point. Maybe the owners house goes for 3 mil. . That's gona get divided up real fast. At least the drivers filed first, if that means anything. Maybe in 3 years they might get something after the lawyers take their's.
Franky, I think the CEO's of the company information SHOULD be made public! What they did to these human beings was criminal! Stranded in the dead of winter, two days before Xmas?! Withholding their pay for three weeks?? This company KNEW what was going to happen, and yet, they STILL did not warn the drivers! The people responsible should be arrested and locked UP!! Or beat to a bloody pulp!!!
On Friday, Oct. 21, nearly 90 employees and truck drivers for Sports Associated Inc. of Kansas City, KS, received the unexpected news that the company was shutting its doors that day. At least 44 drivers were still trying to get home late Friday
It's coming out now that son who took over when the father died, pretty much took the company as his own personal piggy bank. Wait until you read the list of the stuff this guy owned. jets, fast cars, big spender. Mom was involved, but not as much as the son. He was pulling shams left and right with banks & other dealings to afford his lifestyle. People who leased trucks through Arrow got screwed by the son. It a real mess! IRS is now involved.
I found work in 10 days, but it paid poorly and my parents had to help me out so I would not lose the house. I realized that, in order to survive, I would have to become self-employed. I was not ready for it, but I became self-employed in 1994. After Sept of 2009, there does not seem to be much difference between self employment versus unemployment. btw. the same thing happened to me in 1988, so the 91 loss was the 2nd time. It is a ruthless way to treat people.
A driver told me he was stranded down in Florida the day that happened. They told him he could either get a bus ticket home or buy his own fuel home since the fuel cards were shut off as well.
What a fucking shame! I run for Melton, and Ill let the youtube world know this...when Bob Peterson found out about this happening, and all the drivers being stranded with no way to get home for Christmas. Bob Peterson (Owner of Melton Truck Lines) authorized any Melton driver to give arrow drivers rides home for Christmas. Thats one thing I will say about Melton...with Bob Peterson...Drivers come first....they will let a Driver Manager go before they let a driver go. Arrow in the ass trucking!
We still have a Kenworth T-600 and flatbed trailer that was dropped at our Freightliner dealership back in 2010 when all this happened. It was a good looking rig when it came in, but sadly 12 years of sitting back in the weeds has taken its toll on her.
There was a guy, back in late 80's, early 90's, I was talking to, don't remember the name if the trucking company, but they were composed of green Internationals, and big. He signed a lease/purchase with them, they did all the repairs during the agreement, and kept saying they fixed things on his truck that I had never heard of going bad to keep him indebted to them, thought it was Arrow
Hi, Im not a trucker but I feal for all those hard working drivers. Hope all trucking companys make it a priority to hire a arrow trucker 1st. Without those truckers with any company we got nothing.
Nothing could be more devistating to a Co. driver just 2 days before christmas, what kind of person does this to the very backbone of a co. Whether its the lack of communication or respect toward the driver that made them money, This is a assault on all of us who drive for a living, We must not let this happen again. And last thought, a big THANK YOU TO ALL the CO's that came throught for X arrow drivers. we are family in times of trouble.
i worked for priority when they went out of business. at least they got us back to our terminals and gave us bus tickets home. arrow did theyre drivers dirty.
Had it been me, and I had a heads up, id have dropped the trailer somewhere, and bobtailed it home. leave my ass stranded hell no. they could come get it when I was paid. wont leave me hanging lol. im sure youd agree
Yeah Eck Miller "oldest flatbed co." at the time did the same thing between Christmas and New Years. Qualcomm message read operations have ceased return all trucks to Rockport Il. immediately. I took mine home and told them when i get paid they could come and pick it up or i would sell the tires for my pay! I got paid the next day.
They were in buisness since 48'. So they weren't a fly by night operation. Looks like their credit got too far extended and the bank called them on it and any and all loans fell through. But if people weren't gettin' paid for three weeks what does that tell you. The Company was broke. I wouldn't call Arrow assholes here, it was probably the bank that pulled whatever credit they had left. And Arrow collapsed. Welcome to Obamaville 2010.
I read the book (On Nook) about Arrow Trucking. Sorry what happened to all those drivers. That son was...well, I just didn't understand it. I bought the book, because things like this...call it intrigue...interest me.
Believe me, those that had a heads up and plenty of fuel did. They shut off their fuel cards which also meant no cash advance privileges. On a full tank of fuel with a heavy load, you'd be lucky to make it 1000 to 1200 miles. Your only hope was to live in the middle of the country and only be within a few states of home.
why would you think they wouldn't sell? They good used trucks that are already semi-paid for and therefore were offered at a steal of a price to owner operators and companies looking to expand their fleets.
This Company offered me a job prior to graduating from Diesel Driving Academy in Shreveport, La. in 1994 and I'm Glad that I didn't sign on. However, I signed on with Oliver Transportation Inc.(OTI) out of Mexico, Mo. but that Company got "hooked up with some bad dealings and got put out of business and that Company was started back in 1948 and to me, it was sad to see a guy like Pete Oliver lose his Company the way he did!
I've heard that several agencies are no investigating Arrow for what they've done to these truckers. These truckers deserve more than what they are getting!
I'm all for turning the other cheek, but I'm sure not ONE driver will feel the same way! Thank GOD there was no emergency situation out there, and that no driver LOST HIS/HER LIFE because of the callous, inhumane and unfeeling actions of the CEO's of thie company. I am still furious over what has happened, and sometimes violence is the only way to rid the planet of the cockroaches that ran Arrow. I hate them now.
@TABOOVSKNOWLEDGE Sir with respect, private enterprise does not need corporations. In the beginning, Corporations were formed as temporary entities for the creation of stuff, such as bridges, roads, etc.. It was after the 14th amendment was passed that they were given status as "persons". Before corporations free enterprise were composed of entrepreneurs, and small business people where real competition existed. We need to return to that. Adam Smith Capitalism it was called. Cheers.
You hear but do not listen...you see but do not perceive...you question was not a question...it was a negative comment...and you got what was coming to you.
ke4qpf,It's not just the big companies. When companies keep cutting rates just to get freight its just a matter of time before it bites them in the ass. There have been MANY companies were started by a trucker w/ 1 truck and eventually became large and profitable.then the old man retires or dies and leaves the company to his kids(who have never been in a truck).over time they slowly run it in the ground until they finally go belly up..
And whats going to happen to all these trucks? Last I checked, companies werent buying em used. I guess that means theyre gonna start getting real cheap. Hopefully some of the drivers can afford to buy em and become independents, then turn around, make a decent living and laugh in the face of the company that betrayed them.
I understand this had to do with the owner of this company, what I am saying is why dont Obama give some money to these Truck Drivers that lost their jobs, and will probably become homless and without food.
Was leased to Arrow back in '94 . For me they treated (Van) Own/Opers real bad. Had a bunch of "Tattle-Tale" Drivers also (Telled if you passed them , told if you were speeding).. Glad I was separated from them (Karma is a B*)
@richlaramore Hell ya...I was just thinking the same thing. If they told me to park it at a freightliner dealership....pffft..FUCK THAT!! You can come and get it!!!
Obam gave 100 million dollars to Haiti, Why dont Obam give some of that money to these Truckers that move America! Are Government is quick to give to other countries but are SLOW to give to the American people. EXSPLAIN THAT ONE.
Yeah, but if you dont give them 2 weeks notice then you get a bad reference, then youre the dirt bag? The workers in this country have really gotten the shaft lately, I was fired 2 months ago, they called me in, and that was it, couldnt even finish out the day. Its the way they all do business today.
Lose there jobs, they are a bunch of losers? Who do you think you are? Truck drivers make sure your food and building supplies get to where you buy them buddy. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't have it.
I lost my job suddenly in 1991. My employer pulled my job out from under me, 3 months after I had bought my home. Word went out to Schneider drivers as well - if we come across an Arrow driver in need of a ride, we were asked to help give them a ride home.
i am an ex arrow driver. i am currently deployed in supprot of OIF/OEF. i got screwed while i worked there. i miss driving but i had friends that still dorve there and i was actually gonan come back to them so i could drive again but guess that wont happen now. hope i can find a job when i get home cuz i need to get back behind the wheel of a truck soon or i am gonna go crazy. lol. see yall when i get home from the sandbox.

DAMN. i still can't believe these guys did that to the drivers. it's a sad situation. good vid buddy.

Amazingly, none of them are there anymore. I checked with the dealership. You wouldn't think they'd sell that many but I guess they do sell.
Nope. They're all gone by now. Most were auctioned off within 6 or 8 months.
I remember this like it was yesterday....on Christmas eve too.. sad day..
.
It's coming out now that son who took over when the father died, pretty much took the company as his own personal piggy bank. That's unethical, immoral, and a serious business ethics violation. Why did their CEO do that?

You were "johnny on the spot" with this video! I can't help but wonder why the national news didn't pick this up?

This really disgusts me. I hate to see the average guy get screwed!
so how did you recover? were you able to find work relatively soon or has it been a struggle since that incident? hope you are doing well, cheers
3 days before christmas? Man that's harsh!
After hearing about Celadon I had to check these videos out. Sad.
Nothing could be more devistating to a Co. driver just 2 days before christmas, what kind of person does this to the very backbone of a co. Whether its the lack of communication or respect toward the driver that made them money,

usually with children taking over the family business they don't have the motivation the parents did. sadly.
i worked for priority when they went out of business. at least they got us back to our terminals and gave us bus tickets home. arrow did theyre drivers dirty.
I also worked at Priority
Had it been me, and I had a heads up, id have dropped the trailer somewhere, and bobtailed it home. leave my ass stranded hell no. they could come get it when I was paid. wont leave me hanging lol. im sure youd agree
yamahonkawazuki I would of said “show me the money first”.

i was hoping to get back on the road soon with one of these trucking companies, but its starting to look shakey

I knew it wasn't going to last with the son taking over. They wanted me to come on in 2008 but I didn't do it.
meaning CR England?
so sorry. crumby company to not notify employees ahead of time, severance pay??
In this case, maybe they still have repos with low balances so we can take em off their hands :)
I've heard that several agencies are no investigating Arrow for what they've done to these truckers.

There is a Facebook support group for helping drivers that were left stranded. Go to Support for Arrow Truckers facebook page to see if you can help!
Next hot commodity, pitch forks, shovlels, ball chains and torches!

In California today there are a lot of new companies that put 100 trucks in less than 10 years. These bugs will be going out of business soon.
You hear but do not listen...you see but do not perceive...you question was not a question...it was a negative comment...and you got what was coming to you.

wouldnt want those trucks after all that time of sitting if they were still there.
It's called unemployment insurance. That's what you get when your job closes.
No job is safe.
I am expecting a tsunami of safe jobs to evaporate in 2010.
And whats going to happen to all these trucks? Last I checked, companies werent buying em used. I guess that means theyre gonna start getting real cheap. Hopefully some of the drivers can afford to buy em and become independents, then turn around, make a decent living and laugh in the face of the company that betrayed them.

Where is Joe six pack when you need him!
YRC is next 1/2 billion in debt
@richlaramore Hell ya...I was just thinking the same thing. If they told me to park it at a freightliner dealership....pffft..FUCK THAT!! You can come and get it!!!

Yeah, but if you dont give them 2 weeks notice then you get a bad reference, then youre the dirt bag?
