SYNOPSIS
Rex Smith performed this wonderful ballad in the 1980's film "Headin' For Broadway" starring Paul Carafotes, Terri Treas, Vivian Reed, Rex Smith and Gene Foote. It's too bad the soundtrack to this film was never commercially released.
I did manage to find a very rare promotional 45 RPM produced by Joseph Brooks and Rex Smith. So, for your listening pleasure, here is the complete version.

LYRICS
"Woman" » Rex Smith
I hide inside
I find the mornin' hurts my eyes
I can't stand all those lies
Say they must be lies
And so I rush
To call you on the telephone
And the silence tells me so
Woman no, no, no, no
Oh Woman
Say it isn't true
Love like ours can never really die
Woman not me and you
Oh Woman
Say it just can't be
What everybody seems to know
Everyone but me
What happened to
the dreams we built up one by one
Have they come all undone
Have you changed your mind
And does some stranger
Hold you like I used to do
If for you the love is gone
For me it goes on and on and on
Oh Woman
Say it isn't true
Love like ours can never really die
Woman not for me and you
Oh Woman
Say it just can't be
Ah but everybody seems to know
Everyone but me
Everyone but me!
Such an underrated song. This along with "Shades of Blue" from "Sooner or Later" are in my opinion, two of the best examples of his natural born ability to connect with and convincingly express the emotions of a song. Its the same magical thing that gave him his natural ability to act despite having no training or experience. Such a stunning voice regardless of what genre he's singing,
Thank you sooooo much. I saw this movie on VHS in the early 80s. This song stood out. Rex Smith brought tears to my eyes, and has again now.
It's a real shame this song was never recorded on an album it's so beautiful and tender
I will never get over the sound of his voice and the shape of his lips
Beautifully sung ❤ I wish this had been released!
When I saw this warm hearted movie back in the 80s I thought this was a perfect place for this song. Not a failure at all. Maybe for that Broadway show but definitely showed the raw emotion and talent in his voice. I have looked everywhere & can't find the guitar chords for this song that no doubt should've been a top 10 hit. Thanks for reading this.
Yes, it was a beautiful song, right from the heart.
Another song released from the film on a 45 RPM by Rex Smith was "Rhythm".
It never got much airplay though.
P.S. Poor Joe Brooks died shortly after the film was released.
Rex Smith sings this touching song with so much honesty and emotion. It is one of my all time favorites.
I love this song. Rex Smith brings it to life as he does with every song he sings. Then and Now.
Magnifique interprétation de MISTER REX SMITH. J adore. J aime cette version. Bye. Kiss.
Maravilhoso sempre
