THIS!!!!! THIS THIS THIS 1000x THIS!!!!!!!!! This is the character analysis I've been craving for SO LONG. All the other ones, while they're well-done, are missing the 'I am completely insane about this show' factor, a factor in which you absolutely NAILED. Going so in-depth into each character is something I greatly commend you for, especially with the extensive character roster that Haikyuu has. I came here looking for some quality Kageyama and Hinata analysis (which I most definitely got) and stayed for the rest :]
I'm really glad you went over the ENTIRETY of Hinata and Kageyama's arcs, especially Kageyama's backstory, because I've only ever seen people on Tumblr discuss it, which is strange because his backstory plays a HUGE ROLE in his character (you also nailed the fact that everything Kageyama does is ultimately for volleyball, and that's why his actions, despite being selfish, don't make him inherently evil like some people portray him to be-- sincerely, a Kageyama Tobio apologist).
(01:30:38) "He needed Hinata as much as Hinata needed him" THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS YOU ARE SO RIGHT OH MY GOD. THEY NEEDED EACH OTHER!!! Kageyama made Hinata better physically and Hinata made Kageyama better emotionally thank you.
You also covered Hinata's character development so well-- how he develops himself while also pushing his teammates to develop OUGH so good. And Hinata personality in general, how even after losing at the climax of his Brazil arc, he's still satisfied because he's improved, even if that improvement didn't result in a win, that fact that you highlighted that was so special to me because that's exactly it-- that is who Hinata is.
I can most definitely empathize with your speechlessness at the Adlers/Jackals game. There are simply not enough words in this language to convey what I feel.
Sorry for rambling mostly about Hinata and Kageyama they are just so special to me. Your analysis of the other characters (how import Townsperson B can be whilst you were speaking about Yachi, literally life changing) was also fantastically done and I will be coming back to this video the next time I want to write about Haikyuu (the Haikyuu wiki has nothing on this tbh).
Sorry again for the multiple paragraphs of a comment. I don't do this comment thing very often outside of Ao3, but I genuinely wanted to commend you on your wonderful work; what a fantastic magnum opus this is. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only insane person who can rant about Haikyuu for multiple hours :D
Much love, many kudos. Thanks :)

I haven't watched this video yet, but oh my god, yes it is (a masterpiece of a series!). I have rewatched this series so many times in the last 6 years and I have learned something new EVERY single time. Especially as I became more emotionally mature, and as the series progressed, and I started to ask more questions, I learned about how cool and amazing these people are, and how much thought must've been put into writing these characters. I love this series so much, it is so beautiful.

i first got into haikyuu back in 2015 and then followed manga on and off all the way to the end, but last month was the first time since the end of the manga i rewatched and reread the whole thing. and while i’ve always said haikyuu is my favorite anime/manga, it didn’t hit me until this last reread what a masterpiece this story is, and this video really formulated so many of the reasons!! most of all i think it’s about the careful care that has been put in the whole story, both in all the characters and how they’re all unique and their own conclusions, and also through all the callbacks that are so carefully and effectively planted.
and also, i think one of the reasons it is so amazing is that furudate really wasn’t afraid to take risks. there’s so many things that were so shocking the first time around, that i remember seeing people upset over, that in the grand scheme of things are so good. to show us matches not even involving our main team, because we have grown to love nekoma and furukodani so much it works ! to have noya, a character so many people expected to go pro do something completely different but completely aligned with his character ! to do the time skip, which was so jarring at first, but gave us what i consider one of the best arcs in the whole story. it’s such a beautiful story and i’m so glad a video like this, which truly appreciates the depth and detail, exists! thank you for sharing your thoughts !

I truly love Haikyuu a lot, for all its characters, matches, funny moments, training arcs, failures and successes. I wouldn't change a single thing about this piece of art. Its my roman empire. I can't put into words what I feel about Haikyuu. Because its so amazing that I just get emotional when thinking about all the awesome moments, their achievements, their failures, and lessons they learnt through their journey of volleyball.
