A highly curated collection is the only way to go. Films you have great appreciation for, a special connection to, but most importantly movies which warrant repeat viewings and won't just sit on a shelf somewhere for dust-collecting eye candy. Otherwise it's just hoarding interchangeable with any item or product. To have a hobby which you are passionate about can be a wonderful thing, but collecting can consume the hobby when the collecting takes precedence over the enjoyment of the hobby itself.
Susan you are not alone. I did the same thing. At the beginning of November 2020, I opened an Amazon store card credit account and maxed it out by the time Black Friday came. And I only bought physical media. It took me 2 years to pay it off. I learned my lesson with that one. I now make sure to set aside a certain amount each month and I use that towards new releases and sales. I am grateful that you are sharing this with everyone. Thank you for being real and vulnerable with us. Wishing you the best with everything.
Here are a few tips from a 62-year-old long-time collector in Canada. 1) Focus on the films you love and have meaning to you. Your collection should highlight the types of films you most enjoy and/or admire. 2) Don't spend what you don't have. Never go into debt to pay for your hobby and don't forsake necessary purchases to feed your hobby. 3) Do NOT think of your collection as an investment. The future is unknowable. You can't predict if your collection of films will one day be as valuable as vinyl albums are today or whether they'll be almost as obsolete as VHS tapes. Live for the moment and enjoy what you have today. 4) Similar to no. 3, don't beat yourself up over your past spending. No one who was collecting VHS tapes back in the '80s would ever have predicted anything like 4K UHD discs. As I said, when it comes to your hobby, live for today and let the future take care of itself.
You’re the best movie channel in my opinion. My collection is large full of past titles that I adore having and carefully selected. All titles current and moving forward I’m even more selective. I agree with the ‘get what you absolutely love, not EVERYthing! ‘ You’re the best Sue !
You know one thing I love about you is your really honest and you don’t hide anything and yes I relate honestly I’m still a teen so your advice is helping me save my money
With fewer options to pick up physical in stores and so many streaming options to try new movies This might be the perfect time for any of us collectors who have built up debt in the hobby to adjust how we collect to get out of debt.
That embarrassing feeling will eventually turn into a reminder of where you were. It will remind you of the courage it took to confront your spending head on. The “embarrassment” is ironically good. If you don’t mind I have some advice based on my own lived experience. Setting smaller goals along the way can help you with your bigger goal of a year off from purchasing physical media. I do this all the time for things like physical fitness and even buying video games and movies. I set small goals of “exercise today” and write them down and cross them off when I do it. It might seem silly at first to write “don’t buy movies today” as a goal, but it isn’t. It’s basically repackaging your bigger goal into smaller more readily obtainable slices. And every day you cross off is another measurement of your success. I also used to gamify it and add rewards for finishing 5 days in a row of goals. A reward wouldn’t be for me btw! It would have been something I’d do for someone else, from maybe taking my husband out to dinner or doing a little extra cleaning for the house, etc. i even got nerdy and made quest cards for me to complete. Listen, I’m a gamer at heart so I got real creative with it. Haha But in the end it’s all to support a larger goal and to decrease burn out along the way. And it’s kind of fun and addicting. But I do also recognize there’s no one size fits approach to this. You may find a different process. This is just my 2 cents. Anyhow, I’m excited for you. This is all a positive thing. :)
As you go about your no-buy, could you make updates on your debt repayment? Like maybe the first video shares your total debt (interest rates, minimum payments etc) and then do monthly videos to “check in” and keep you accountable
Thank you for your honesty. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. Quite often how I afford to buy what physical media that I do is that I wait to either the price drops or I'll find a used copy.
Thank you for being honest. This video just opened my eyes. I need to stop for a bit from buying physical media too. I have a lot of unopened media that I haven’t seen and I just keep buying every week more and more. WOW! Thank you again for opening my eyes.
Thank you for this video. As a collector of many things including movies, I was in the same boat. Life has been so much better since I became selective and I’m looking to purge the movies I will never watch.
You're not alone. I collected video games and compact discs and some movies, but when DVD came out I started collecting physical media much more heavily. At that time Circuit City was my favorite place to shop. Eventually I learned to be more selective, save some items for when I can better afford them, even if that means buying them at a markup from independent sellers in the case of limited editions, and prioritize my spending
I just buy the films 🎥 I watch over and over again. I don't buy every film that comes out and not those rip off box sets with poster and art cards I've cut down. Love from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤️
Back in 2010 2011 I did the same thing I bought the latest ever week, all for my RUclips channel! Till I ended up with a bunch of titles I didn’t even need or didn’t like… When we accidentally lost our storage I lost a lot of Steelbooks that were from Canada and overseas from other RUclipsrs which sucks… But when I started again I became more selective of titles that I wanted! It’s been much better since! 😊
I love your channel sue love hearing movie news and where to find certain slips and steelbooks! And certain deals! You don’t need to buy movies to inform us we support you 😎
Sue…..it’s like you paid a visit to my soul and took notes. 😂. There are SO many things that I missed out on picking up because it was either a new SteelBook or keeping gas in the car for another week? Hitting up the Kino Sale or keeping food in the fridge? I used to follow my heart, the Collector’s Heart (you’ve got one too. 😂). Now…..I just decide with my head. Great video. ❤
Another great video, Sue. Love the transparency. I've had to be very mindful and intentional when it comes to my own purchases to ensure that what I buy is something that I want and/or need. It has really allowed me to fine tune my collection to what i love. It is so true that we can get caught up with wanting to keep up with the masses, but you have to be wise and ensure you are not over burdening yourself. Great message.
FOMO is a real thing with everything. You see people showing off a new version or Special Edition and common sense goes out the window. An interesting idea would be to show the most amount of discs you got in one month from all sources. Just pile it up and then go over what you bought and see what you think you could’ve lived without.
Thank You Susan , I Started Collecting 2 Years Ago & Hearing You Talk About What You're Going Through Really Helped Me , Im Running Out Of Space , I Need To Wait & Not Buy Right Away , I Need To Buy What I REALLY Want Because I Am Wasting a Lot Of Money ...Thank You Again Susan
I never got to that level of spending, but have been known to spend $100 when I meant to spend $20. You feel Great in the moment, but when I need that $80 a week later, I feel like a jackass. Great advice for new collectors. It's so easy to get caught up trying to grab all the shiny objects everyone shows off.
As you can see by the number of comments with the same theme... you are NOT alone. I, too, have experienced financial issues, but I make do. You are also being a mentor to some of your viewers on how to manage one's money. You are brave, Sue, and I truly respect you. Thanks for the video, Sue.
I think it takes a lot to put this stuff out into the world. I really admire your honesty. We’ve all dealt with this to some degree. The important thing is recognizing it and improving ourselves. You’re on the right track. Just stick with it.
Great video! At least you have a channel and were striving to build your business. When I realized I was spending easy over 1K a month and don’t even have a channel, that’s when I decided to step back as well! Felt like I needed everything, blind buys being the ones that catch up the most. Thinking I was one of the guardians of physical media, thinking I need to be the one to save it. I still think it’s very important but realize for every Dragon a Bruce Lee Story that I pick up 4K for example and truly love, there is someone that feels that way for each movie that comes out. We still all do our part by just buying our favorites and being selective.
Great video and a topic that needs to be discussed more among collectors. It's embarrassing for a collector to admit to the world that you spent beyond your means so no one does it. In reality, we are essentially doing the equivalent of going to the bank to take out a high interest loan for the sole purpose of buying physical media which is pure insanity. I tried to justify my overspending by telling myself that I could always resell my collection on Ebay. Now, a vast majority of it is essentially worthless thanks to streaming. Yet there is a pleasure hit to my brain when I hit up a good sale so it can be a hard addiction to control.
Good on you Susan. The algorithm loves pushing pickup videos. People love to consume product and youtube loves to feed it. I hope you find an identity on youtube that's not completely dependent on that. I struggle with this too. You got this.
One thing I try to avoid is upgrading a movie to blu ray or 4K. I just stick with the copy I have. A good example is a Nightmare on Elm Street just got a 4K release, don’t need it. But that’s just me, I know everyone is different.
Great video Sue. Don't spend money on things you can't afford is a simple but important lesson in life. As an indie writer/director i've learnt to stay within my budget to avoid problems down the track!
Thanks for this video, Susan. It's very honest, and you bravely gave us a perspective we're not hearing from other RUclipsrs. Earlier this year I began watching physical media collector videos, mostly as a guide to finding them after Best Buy got out of the market. After seeing several videos with massive, extremely wide-ranging collections in the background I had two questions: 1) Does RUclips fund that massive wall of plastic slabs? 2) Do they actually *like* all those movies? It sounds like the answer is "probably not" to both. I can't call myself a "collector" in this fashion. I buy physical copies of movies I like and want to own. (I'm also not a content creator, so don't have that pressure to buy something for the sake of growing viewership.) I tend toward Steelbooks if I like the artwork better then the standard box (Dune, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and if the markup/availability isn't absurd (ahem, Dune Pt. II, ahem). A year ago I upgraded to 4K, but so far I only own 16 titles, a pretty even mix of new releases (Barbenheimer) and upgrades from previous formats (anything David Lynch). My music collection is more extensive, at around 1300 CDs, but again these are all titles I like, or thought I would when I bought them. For both music and movies I try to buy used when I can. Several years ago my local FYE closed and had a month-long liquidation sale, with the discounts getting steeper each week; that was the quickest expansion my movie collection has ever seen! As for my biggest collecting regret, I'd say it's selling my CD of Celtic Frost's "Cold Lake" a week or two after it came out, based solely on the fact that it was embarrassingly awful and I never wanted to hear it again. Decades later I want it for the "completeness" of my Celtic Frost collection, but it's now rare, overpriced, and still awful on a New Coke level. I just can't pay that much money for a CD i *might* listen to once ironically and then banish to the shelf forevormore.
This video is helpful i am a Blu Ray collector that started with star wars and i went straight into Marvel. And where's i got hooked was the DC movie's especially the DCEU with the great storyline that Zack Snyder was creating and just as i building my DC collection the studio gets rid of Snyder only to have the storyline holted in the middle of a great story. So now I am done collecting and do what you said and choose the movie you want and be happy about that. One thing I will never do again and that is by another DC movie ever again because I'm not going to get hooked into another storyline only to have it yanked from underneath my feet again so I've been saving thanks to that you live and you learn lesson 👍
Keep it up! Last year was the same for me.. I joined Disney movie club after having always wanted to and a combo of stress and life caused me to over spend.. and yeah! Proud of you and your journey!
Well said Sue. I only buy titles I know I will like or have seen before. Fortunately, I haven't used a credit card, but over the last 2 years my purchases have increased a lot. I have "blind bought" titles, an example recently being "Pearl", "X" & "Maxxxine". I haven't watched them yet but they appealed watching reviews etc. Well done for being so honest, your channel is great & will continue to grow & grow 👍.
I've been doing the pick & choose doctrine from the jump while collecting physical media or other hobbies. This is a good rule everyone should pay close attention to & reminder for me. Thank you for this.
You're not alone. I remember I spent so much money on amazon in november 2021 because i felt I had to buy all the 4k movies because I thought physical media won't stay around for long so I though paying a premium for all the 4k movies was a great idea. 2021 was when I started collecting and when I saw my shelf fill up so quickly I knew I had to stop, I also stopped enjoying movies because I burnt myself out. I don't collect anymore and only buy the films that are special to me. 4k movies had up so quickly, and seeing the deals it's hard to resist when the fear of the discs not being made anymore is in the back of my mind
I think most physical media collectors have been in your situation before or have felt the same. It can certainly get overwhelming with how many titles are released each month. I decided to only collect my Top 1,000 movies to save money and space. Also, I love to rewatch movies because that grows my connection with each one so at 1,000 I can rewatch every four years at 250 per year which is reasonable to me. You’ll be on the right track sooner than you think and things will improve, just takes some time.
I used to collect anything and everything that I liked or thought I *might* like on DVD and blu ray. My collection was out of control. After my last move, I said to myself that I never want to go through that again. Too much to pack, too much to haul. I decided to curate and slim down my collection. I sold well over half of my movies and now only collect what I LOVE. Silent and early sound comedies and horror. It was a difficult, but much needed, decision. I now only have 2 Atlantic Oskar 1080 racks, almost full. It was tough, but freeing. I wish you the best.
Probably my biggest regret with physical media are the number of titles that I bought the DVD, never got around to watching it and then end up buying the BluRay or 4K when it came out. Worse are the ones-and there’s more than one title involved-where I bought the DVD, never watched it, then bought the BluRay, never watched that and then a boutique label came along and released a special edition of it so I now have an unopened DVD and BluRay copy sitting in a pile. And because my area of Canada doesn’t have the second hand stores like you guys do ( Bull Moose, etc.), I just have an ever accumulating pile of unopened or just watched once titles in different formats in a corner that I’m just trying to give away at this point… But the biggest question is will I ever learn?
Hi, Sue. I understand where you're coming from , i stopped buying physical media 7 years ago .Couldn't do it anymore, been a collector since beta max came out . I still have VHS & laser disc, video-cd, Blu-ray & 4k. I realize when I'm gone. My family will just get rid of the physical media , and now i purchase digital media that it. When i'm in the mood to watch a movie, I stream it. As long as I am enjoying myself , that's all it matters. Thank you for posting the video. Enjoy your day.
My biggest regret is buying films that were okay. This is coming from someone who has 3,000+. I find myself rewatching the ones in love, and the rest sit and collect dust!
I can relate with the urge to want to buy everything that is new and shiny. A couple of years ago i would spend a lot of money on getting every movie that i wanted even if the movie was just ok. I recently wrote a comment on one of your video's writing that it would be easier to just go digital. Now i still buy some discs every now and then but i started to buy movies on iTunes and found that it was way easier for me to wait until a price dropped to about 5-10 dollars for many movies. And in that very select few that i want day one it still is way cheaper than buying every movie on the shelf every single week. I will not sell my physical media because i love them but i'm okay with switching now more than ever. Paying your bills and having food on the table is the most important thing and yes we all need something to relax to but it is a luxury and not a basic need. My goal for 2025 is to switch over completely to digital keeping an eye out for all those 5 dollar sales and only get physical copies of movies that i really really love. Going into debt is the most stressful thing you can do, especially when they become troubling which is never worth it and believe me i talk from experience too 🤗 Anyway i am blabbing on for too long now but like i commented in the previous videos, i think you can do this and be better for it in the end 💪
I totally agree that to collect to much physical media can cause one to run into debt but also running out of space to put Dvd's and Blu-Ray is my issue at the moment as i have a pretty big collection of everything and with Halloween on the Way i had to let go of a couple of horror movies to make space for more.
I try to only buy what I can afford which it’s about 4-5 4ks a month. It also helps me to just buy the big main stuff I need and not to buy everything like 1 time watches.
I completely understand. I'm going through a very similar situation. I too bought every movie I came across, with the hopes of watching it someday. But I have run out of space. I purged my collection and got rid of hundreds of DVDs, and I realized that most of those DVDs were never seen -it movies that are most likely one time watches that I can stream. And I just got some work done to my car last month that cost me $2700. This is why I haven't sent you any Criterions in a while. I know change is hard, but everything will be ok. Happy belated birthday.
The world of collecting can be very dangerous, both for money and for mental health. You have to have control. It is completely understandable that you have made this decision, I would do the same. In fact, I did the same when I lost my job a few years ago, now I am in a very different situation. I personally have never had a credit card, I have always had a debit card, so I could only spend money that I had, so I never spent more money than I had in my account. Credit cards are absolutely dangerous. I don't know if in the United States it is possible to have a debit card instead of a credit card, but if you have that possibility, do it. That would be my advice. Never spend more money than you earn.
@MoviesSue Thank you! Wish you the best of luck. I'm sure you'll (we'll) bounce back when you (we) can start collecting physical media again without overindulging.
Sue, thanks so much for you transparency. It’s so easy to finance things these days with cards, PayPal and Affirm that one can dig themselves into a hole real quick with buying every release. I’m realizing I need to curate my collection and maybe sell some OOP steelbooks that I don’t watch that often. And also create a hierarchy of the releases that I really want such as that new Columbia Classics box set (on-sale) and Criterion’s ‘No Country’ in December. And maybe I need to chill on the double-dipping. lol
Beginning collectors I suggest thrift stores or sure it’s cheaper especially the clearance racks don’t need to get the 4k or blu ray the dvd works just fine and upgrade when you find a good deal on them. A good way to do what you love but be selective for sure. Agree
My spending was terrible just buying stuff I didn't even watch the worst thing about RUclips and collecting u get fomo from all the cool editions truth is 3 years ago I clicked to that so I buy sell movies and stuff and I work on a budget everymonth what your say is honest and true we've all been here plus people are here cause your honest and genuine maybe u could calab with ur other RUclipsrs and stream movie watch along streams and chat
I’ve always collected movies here and there but this year is when I started to really invest in my collection. You share the same story as many others who just start out and thinking you need everything. Thank you for being honest. I am at the point where I’m starting to question if I want to buy the same movie over and over just bc it got an upgrade. With the ok reviews of nightmare on elm street I am thinking of returning it and keep my blu ray until something more worthy like a complete 4K box set gets released.
I know what you mean, This is why I’m mostly someone who buys regular dvd cause blu ray and 4K is way more expensive and I feel like it’s not completely worth it, People have said that buying DVD is completely stupid when you can get better quality but for like one 4K is like close to 50 dollars and that’s ridiculous when you can just buy the regular dvd for much cheaper
The major problem these days with physical media collectors. They want all the of same movie but with the different covers and they want movies just to have them. Deep down its ridiculous if you think about the money wasted on the same movie just because of the different covers. I'm guilty of it but I changed my priorities when the bills became too much. Its humbling actually. Kudos for being the one to go public about it.
I always tell people, you're not a collector if you have to use bill money and put yourself in a rough spot for a want. If you have to do either of those things, then collecting isn't for you. It's a harsh reality. Seeing people go into debt over frivolous wants.
Hi sue I'm a playstation games collector it got to the stage I was buying games that I wouldn't even play it was a obsession and it was costing me a lot of money but I've stopped now and I can pay my bills now so I where you are coming from
I spent 3,000 dollars once on Amazon Susan on physical media and other stuff but it was my mom's card LOL I only pay with cash now ever since I moved here to south east Asia Susan but I'm telling you Susan Bootlegs are hard to resist buying Ken spent like 8,650 on his last bluray audit with Michelle I can't believe he's still married to her Ken is one Lucky man to have Michelle as his wife. I don't know too many women who would have stayed with their husbands if they spent that much money on physical media or their collecting habits
I was in the same situation that you were when I first started buying movies for my collection I would get money from my mom and go over to our local Casey’s cause where I live. They used to sell DVDs for rental and buy I would go over there and I would take $20 and buy two DVDs sometimes I’ve had a $10 bill. I would get one movie but I was buying movies and only watching it once maybe twice but I never went back to said movie so that prompted me to clean out my collection and get rid of everything that I barely watched and keep everything that do watch on a basic now when I go and I have the money I buy stuff that I know I’m going to watch so I don’t have purges every year
I think collecting movies there’s a really good way to go about it and they’re really bad way to go about it. (you’re in a different situation because you’re a RUclipsr that talks about movies and does collection videos) what works for me is I’ve been collecting movies since DVDs first came out and as Blu-ray and 4K came out I collect them. This year I will only be purchasing a total of 8 movies and three of them have not come out yet. First number one rule never buy a steel book just buy the regular edition you’re not gonna watch the steel book you’re going to watch the movie, The second rule by movies you only like, the third rule do not upgrade from Blu-ray to 4K. It’s not that big of a deal a especially if you’ve got a good 4K player and a good TV with upscaling. The collection will accumulate overtime. You don’t have to buy every movie at once it took me over 20 years to get a collection of way over 1000.
Well, I always said to myself that you are just buying everything. I became selective years ago. I said you would most likely run into the financial trouble you are in right now. I hate that i was right about that. Being in debt because of it is gut-wrenching. You know the movie Talk to Me? I like it but I do not need to purchase it. If I want to see it in the future, I can probably see it on a streaming service. I purchase my movies when they are at a huge discount. As I am writing this Talk to Me is on sale for 11$ and some change. But I still don't feel I need that movie, though. But that is an example of sales I would jump on. I have been collecting for over a decade but still only have about two hundred fifty movies because I am so selective. I also get rid of movies I feel I do not need anymore. That helps with the space problem. Good luck to you, and hopefully, you get back on track financially soon.
Wow Susan I didn’t known that snowball that massive of problem ,and glad share us wow that massive snowball! Sue just go slow next time make tiny snowballs, and don’t let get massive. I proud you be honest with us . I going honest you I been there too I was I in massive snowballs kill me ,but I dig myself out went for manageable snowballs. Have great day Susan ,and don’t let abominable snowman throw snowballs at you!
I have a rule of thumb I'm if I see something I really want like twisters or Beetlejuice I'll buy it I'm on fixed income. I'm on disability so I buy whatever I want to see. Im not going buy 20 or 30 at once nope
Buy what you love and what you enjoy. Purge your collection and sell it for cheap to those who are curious. Keep the movies passing through the movie lovers club of society and save up for movies you like.
Sue uses her extra movies to get credit at Bull Moose, to buy better ones. She has stated that in one of her recent videos. I don't know if selling them would make her more money but shipping can be a headache, too.
YOOOOOO how do you event spend $2k on movies on Amazon in a single month??? I don’t know if I’d be able to do that if I tried!! man, and I thought I was bad for spending $230 on movies the month before last 😭😭
Sue you are my idol I’m like you I love collecting physical media but I bought a condo and it’s so hard to buy the movies I love. I love Durant cinema as well. I overcame cancer and I really want the Jason box set but I can’t afford it. Please if you have anything to giveaway let me know. I love horror movies but I can’t afford it anymore
Maybe someone can explain this to me but I’ve never understood wanting to buy everything you see even if it’s that cheap I see that more as an addiction or around that as for me personally I just buy what I love I don’t buy things just to own them idk someone explain please
So a large amount of people who like movies exclusively buy movies they know they like or will rewatch. However, some people collect movies like baseball cards. For them, they just like owning movies and it becomes a point where it stops being about the quality of the movie itself and just becomes another opportunity to add to your collection
@@raidersofsteak2227 I will say, though, Sussan keeps using the term “financial irresponsibility” but $2k+ in one month…that goes far beyond that sounds like it falls into the definition of an actual addiction. Like I am very interested in seeing that breakdown because I don’t know how that’s possible to spend THAT much on movies unless it was Black Friday month or a month a bunch of box sets came out. If that is the actual total, then it sounds like she had an actual problem that she needed help for. It’s good that she’s trying to fix that now, but dude that is not normal even for collectors.
For me, if I saw something cheap or on sale, I would buy it because it was a good deal. I figured I might as well get it because I'll probably want it anyway.
What happened to keep physical media alive? And what about just get a 2nd job it’s so weird to hear u preach now to stop buying physical media lol make it make sense.
Did you even watch the video? I never told anyone to stop buying completely. I'm advising people to be more selective. There's nothing wrong with that. Makes perfect sense to me!
Not completely but pretty much Bcz of what ever situation you are in. Like u said before u don’t drink so u don’t spend money at the bar u don’t wear makeup so this is your enjoyment. But why preach to everyone then when they stop carrying it in stores u sing a different tune. Keep your loyalty even if your in tough spot I get but don’t tarnish collectors
I really feel sad for your generation seriously 😒 you really need to get your priorities straight you are not even looking at the future mom & Dad aren’t going to live forever what are you going to do than can you afford the house you live in rent mortgage taxes? You need to get a good job with benefits like a pension what are you going to retire on or you just going to work forever so sad 😞 get your priorities straight NOW before it’s too late ⏰ I’m close to retirement and thank goodness I have a great paying job with a pension coming to me so I can retire comfortably stop buying useless stuff and start saving for retirement or you’ll be a huge amount of trouble think 🤔 about it
I don't need you to feel sad for me. Congratulations on your pension. Good for you. Personally if I worked a "regular job" I'd probably die. What is important is that I'm making a change and acting on it.
A highly curated collection is the only way to go. Films you have great appreciation for, a special connection to, but most importantly movies which warrant repeat viewings and won't just sit on a shelf somewhere for dust-collecting eye candy. Susan you are not alone. I did the same thing. At the beginning of November 2020, I opened an Amazon store card credit account and maxed it out by the time Black Friday came. I now make sure to set aside a certain amount each month and I use that towards new releases and sales. I am grateful that you are sharing this with everyone. I'm happy that you realized your mistake before it really got out of hand!

4) Similar to no. 3, don't beat yourself up over your past spending. No one who was collecting VHS tapes back in the '80s would ever have predicted anything like 4K UHD discs. As I said, when it comes to your hobby, live for today and let the future take care of itself.
Nothing to be embarrassed about Sue. A lot of people have been there at one time or another.
You’re the best movie channel in my opinion. My collection is large full of past titles that I adore having and carefully selected. All titles current and moving forward I’m even more selective. I agree with the ‘get what you absolutely love, not EVERYthing! ‘ You’re the best Sue !
Wow, thank you!
You couldn't of said it better! It's not worth going into debt over. I had to learn that the hard way myself. Proud of you Susan 👏
Haha
But in the end it’s all to support a larger goal and to decrease burn out along the way.
Like maybe the first video shares your total debt (interest rates, minimum payments etc) and then do monthly videos to “check in” and keep you accountable
and I mean that in the best way! Good luck to you!
I totally understand. You are not alone. Thanks for your honesty. That's why I watch your channel.😊
I appreciate that!
Thank you for your honesty. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. Quite often how I afford to buy what physical media that I do is that I wait to either the price drops or I'll find a used copy.
Thank you for being honest.❤
Thank you for being honest. This video just opened my eyes. I need to stop for a bit from buying physical media too. I have a lot of unopened media that I haven’t seen and I just keep buying every week more and more. WOW! Thank you again for opening my eyes.
You are so welcome!
Thank you for being real and honest and thank you for the advice, great video 🙂
A video breaking down your total physical media debts would be great and so helpful
You're probably going to enjoy today's video!
I really admire your honesty sue.
Thanks Johnny!
❤
Thanks so much!
FOMO is a real thing with everything. You see people showing off a new version or Special Edition and common sense goes out the window. An interesting idea would be to show the most amount of discs you got in one month from all sources. Just pile it up and then go over what you bought and see what you think you could’ve lived without.
Good idea, but would be difficult to remember everything!
Thanks for sharing!!
It'll be interesting to see if people save money with most of the brand new physical media harder to buy in person
So true!
As you can see by the number of comments with the same theme... you are NOT alone.
I, too, have experienced financial issues, but I make do. You are also being a mentor to some of your viewers on how to manage one's money.
You are brave, Sue, and I truly respect you.
Thanks for the video, Sue.
Appreciate it!
I think it takes a lot to put this stuff out into the world. I really admire your honesty. We’ve all dealt with this to some degree. The important thing is recognizing it and improving ourselves. You’re on the right track. Just stick with it.
Thanks so much!
Your input about the movies is awesome. We collectors all have been and still are where you are. Sorry there's always room for one more 😢😮❤
One thing I try to avoid is upgrading a movie to blu ray or 4K. I just stick with the copy I have. A good example is a Nightmare on Elm Street just got a 4K release, don’t need it. But that’s just me, I know everyone is different.
I agree with you 100% truly spoken it's fomo i suffer from until i got diagnosed with cancer ❤❤❤🎉😢
Get well soon 🙏
I'm happy that you are turning things around,it takes courage to make this video.Buying new is a no go for me,except some great deals now and then.
Great video Sue. Don't spend money on things you can't afford is a simple but important lesson in life. As an indie writer/director i've learnt to stay within my budget to avoid problems down the track!
Thanks David!
One thing I will never do again and that is by another DC movie ever again because I'm not going to get hooked into another storyline only to have it yanked from underneath my feet again so I've been saving thanks to that you live and you learn lesson 👍
you have a lot of support Susan from your followers. Ignore the haters. 🙏
Thanks Michael! For the most part, everyone has been positive and supportive!
Yes-Great advice from your experiences collecting physical media-Always enjoy your insight in your videos-Keep up the AWESOME work-Sue!!!👏🤙⚡️
Enjoy your day.
my jaw dropped when you said the number spent on amazon! shoutout to you for recognizing the issue and course correcting. you got this 😊
Much appreciated!
im glad your sorting yourself out, always enjoy your content, take care
Thank you kindly
I totally agree that to collect to much physical media can cause one to run into debt but also running out of space to put
Dvd's and Blu-Ray is my issue at the moment as i have a pretty big collection of everything and with Halloween on the
Way i had to let go of a couple of horror movies to make space for more.
I try to only buy what I can afford which it’s about 4-5 4ks a month. It also helps me to just buy the big main stuff I need and not to buy everything like 1 time watches.
That's true you don't have to buy everything especially on Day 1 wait for sales
Great advice Sue!
I enjoyed your boxes too , much appreciated!❤
Omg, no worries!!!! Take care of your situation and focus on yourself!
We've all been through this as physical media collectors. Lately, I'm being more selective with which movies I want to add in my collection.
Smart!
@MoviesSue Thank you! Wish you the best of luck. I'm sure you'll (we'll) bounce back when you (we) can start collecting physical media again without overindulging.
$2K!!! WOW, thanks for your honesty. That’s why I love pawnshops.
I'm not judging any other collector with what they buy. If they can afford it, great.
I understand, it's ur choice.
You could focus on other areas of collecting - i.e. maybe make a video of your movie collection, maybe re-organize your collection by genre, etc.
I make a variety of content on my channel including those ideas.
I always tell people, you're not a collector if you have to use bill money and put yourself in a rough spot for a want. If you have to do either of those things, then collecting isn't for you. It's a harsh reality. Seeing people go into debt over frivolous wants.
My wife keeps me grounded when it comes to my collecting. 😊
Love it!
Hi sue I'm a playstation games collector it got to the stage I was buying games that I wouldn't even play it was a obsession and it was costing me a lot of money but I've stopped now and I can pay my bills now so I where you are coming from
Love this vid!! Good on you!!👏🏻
Thank you!!
I would get one movie but I was buying movies and only watching it once maybe twice but I never went back to said movie so that prompted me to clean out my collection and get rid of everything that I barely watched and keep everything that do watch on a basic now when I go and I have the money I buy stuff that I know I’m going to watch so I don’t have purges every year
I’m in my 20’s and I budget my money for movies
I support you so much sue
Much appreciated!
Yeah Sue it’s a bit of a trap. Especially all the formats. It’s good there is choice, but hard to choose. The studios keep on pumping out the movies.
So true 👍 do you feel though your RUclips channel accelerated the amount of buying you were doing?
No Regerts😂 from Tampa Florida. Have a great day everyone. #MoviesandSue
Very good advice. I am very happy you made this video. From India
Moral of the story is never watch durrant cinemas videos 😂
That’s funny !
Lol not saying that! Watch the videos, just don't buy everything!
Sue I have been watching you for years don’t regret this you have been making content good content find a way to make money off it
I don't regret my channel at all! It's completely changed my life in the BEST way!
I have a rule of thumb I'm if I see something I really want like twisters or Beetlejuice I'll buy it I'm on fixed income. I'm on disability so I buy whatever I want to see. Im not going buy 20 or 30 at once nope
its not all on you part of the problem is some physical media is so expensive, case in point the steelbook of deadpool is insanly dear
Agreed. I have no idea why that steelbook is insanely hight and not regular retail price
Buy what you love and what you enjoy. Purge your collection and sell it for cheap to those who are curious. Keep the movies passing through the movie lovers club of society and save up for movies you like.
I'm not selling my collection. If I don't want something anymore, I trade it in at Bullmoose, which I've done several times.
Nicely done....I felt that $2K punch in the gut...
❤
You are not alone in this. Have you considered selling some of your collection?
Sue uses her extra movies to get credit at Bull Moose, to buy better ones. She has stated that in one of her recent videos.
I don't know if selling them would make her more money but shipping can be a headache, too.
No, I'm not selling my collection.
i start to wack ,4 k movies i wach 4 movies in 4 k for now
YOOOOOO how do you event spend $2k on movies on Amazon in a single month??? I don’t know if I’d be able to do that if I tried!!
man, and I thought I was bad for spending $230 on movies the month before last 😭😭
Because the "add to cart" button is just so easy to click.
Wow, thank you so much!
@@davidfelter417 ahhh thanks for that and the analogy I get that I guess it just seems so foreign to me thank you though
David, your judgment of me is extremely rude. Especially having this side conversation with someone else, like I wouldn't see it.
For me, if I saw something cheap or on sale, I would buy it because it was a good deal. I figured I might as well get it because I'll probably want it anyway.
Disagree......completely
What do you disagree with?
@@MoviesSueYou won't get an answer.
@@Jnathan5she is not tarnishing collectors at all , I just think you missed the point …. Be selective……
I remember last year Sue got a job with a decent amount of hours but then ghosted them after orientation.
@@davidfelter417 and your point is ?
I really feel sad for your generation seriously 😒 you really need to get your priorities straight you are not even looking at the future mom & Dad aren’t going to live forever what are you going to do than can you afford the house you live in rent mortgage taxes? You need to get a good job with benefits like a pension what are you going to retire on or you just going to work forever so sad 😞 get your priorities straight NOW before it’s too late ⏰ I’m close to retirement and thank goodness I have a great paying job with a pension coming to me so I can retire comfortably stop buying useless stuff and start saving for retirement or you’ll be a huge amount of trouble think 🤔 about it
Your parents must be very proud.
I don't need you to feel sad for me. Congratulations on your pension. Good for you. Personally if I worked a "regular job" I'd probably die. What is important is that I'm making a change and acting on it.
