I was in a beauty pageant in my younger days. I found a gown that I wanted to be made. You have your first meeting leave a deposit. You have two fittings. The last fitting is when you pay the rest of the money 💰. I made sure my gown was picked up 7 days before the event. The mother is off on her responsibility to communicate and show up when scheduled to do so. A pretty dress 👗. He is a talented designer.
Reminds me of The Cosby Show when Theo had Denise sew him that lopsided “Gordon Gortrele” for the dance last minute. “No 14 (can’t remember the age he was) needs a $90 shirt unless he is dancing on stage with his four brothers.” Can’t afford it, don’t need it. Simple.
The defendant was very professional and presented himself well: The mother and daughter were all of the place with their story the mom kept looking at the daughter and they often couldn’t come up with answers to the questions JM asked; I believe they lied Anyhow: does anyone have the defendants information I tried looking him in IG that viral wedding gown was GORGEOUS 😊

She literally said at the beginning she was in a terrible car accident. It was so bad that she couldn’t walk or talk, which indicates that she had a severe brain injury. She’s not slow 💀
I think JM only gave them the 1500 because he felt sorry for the daughter. In my opinion they would of got $300 because they lied about being there for another fitting They should of had a back up dress. I just did my niece prom and we had plans for a back up dress if her dress wasn’t ready at least 2 weeks before Prom. But it was, sorry she missed her prom but that’s her mom fault
I don’t think they lied about that at all. Firstly, he is the one that said they had multiple fittings in his text msg. Which clearly means that there was more than the one fitting on the 13th. Explaining that text by saying she tried it on 3 times on the 13th goes against common sense and logic. Secondly, there was a discussion about photography and makeup. The follow up text msg from him about the photographer and makeup artist was before the 13th but after the 9th. So that conversation had to have taken place on the 9th when she was there. He didn’t even give an answer to that. When else could that conversation have taken place, if not at a fitting previous to the 13th? Thirdly, it doesn’t matter if they had 10 fittings or 1 fitting, the issue with the train/hook has nothing to do with the dress being too tight or not, it should never have fallen off/ripped. One more fitting wouldn’t have stopped that train from coming off. I don’t even think the leg part ripping had anything to do with the fitting of the dress. If the dress was too tight, it would have ripped in other areas. The defendant said himself, that on the 13th, the dress fit well. Didn’t he also claim that she tried it on “3 times” on the 13th? So if it was too tight or didn’t fit correctly, they would have noticed then. So it didn’t rip because it was too tight and they didn’t go to enough fittings, it ripped because it was poor workmanship because of a rush job. Even if the plaintiff didn’t pay the deposit until it was past due, he is a professional and should have said that he didn’t have enough time to create a good quality dress. He chose to take the money and continue to make the dress. He also could have at any point, wrote a text stating that they had missed however many fittings so he couldn’t fulfil his end of the contract due to their actions or that he can’t guarantee a good quality made dress due to them not showing up for fittings and allow them to decide that they are willing to take that risk. Overall, the amount of fittings had nothing to do with the dress ripping, especially since he stated that it fit fine and if he were to be believed, she tried it on 3 times in one fitting. So it clearly wasn’t too tight.
My baby just had her prom this past Saturday and I got her dress 50% off as a surprise and paid $120 for it. I did her hair, nails, and makeup (which almost took me out lol) but she was happy beautiful and had a fabulous time. I would have saved that $1800 for a down payment on her a car.
Lady be glad you got most of you money back. You should of bought a dress as back up. Just in case it wasn't ready. So sorry she missed her prom. We can sometimes plan for perfection and lose out on everything. Bless you both.

Because the dress still messed up. So yeah she paid late but he got all his money and the end result was not correct. Granted they supposedly didn’t show to fitting but like you should’ve been prepared for the date in your contract that you keep bringing up
She cried twice he had to rule in her favor I also told the assistant I wanted her to win the money even if I did win the case. Truthfully I won the case she took the money. If I woulda won she would loss out on what she needed which was the money
I was waiting for someone to slip up because SOMEBODY was lying! I think The judge just really liked them or something because he gave them multiple chances and they had all types of holes in their story and someone was blatantly lying to him. LOL
I actually believe they did have the fitting on the 9th or how would they even know that the dress wasn’t sewn together, just like the defendant confirmed? Especially when they mistakenly thought it’d be ready on 7th. I just think they weren’t great at articulating their case. Also very reasonable to call after getting a text asking where you are. Note to self to only ever reply in writing or record phone calls Lool. Imagine if the whole case was thrown out because of that. Very unfair
The defendant even said several fittings..then he tried to clean it up by saying on the 13th.Kelise was showing the FB texts with the defendants cousin because they were in the living room of the defendants house on the 9th and relaying messages back and forth between the defendant and the cousin to set dates for hair and make up..They were there on the 9th.
@@jstew1990 I think they did give details. They said exactly which parts of the dress were not sewn together at the time, said he gave her shorts to wear, that they went after the mum finished work, and the messages the girl was relaying to her cousins about the dress while she was at the fitting
Her broke ass wasn’t deposit ready that’s on her why tf did he lose the case 😵💫it’s too much scamming and games in todays society I don’t blame him for not starting he could’ve avoided this and made a dress for someone that was deposit ready and also consistent with showings wasted time with her and her damn daughter
The defendant should have clients initial when they come for a fitting. If everyone has to initial and he writes a note on what, if any, adustmnents need to be made, there is no dispute on whether or not clients show. The mom waiting until the day of to pick up the dress is not prudent, either. Too much can go wrong when you wait until the last minute.
Judge ruled by his feelings on this one. He felt bad she missed prom. But They know they didn’t show up for that fitting session. And how was it his fault that the dress ripped??
It was his fault. May 9 and 13 was still not enough time to make sure the dress was right. He full of BS. I'm glad she got $1500. Maybe it taught her a lesson to not try to go all out necessarily.
Ok I’m confused on the total cost of the dress because if it was 900.00 total and she paid 500 down what are they talking about the deposit has to be paid in full before he starts the dress.Who pays in full before being completely satisfied with the product requested. Yea the mother didn’t articulate well but she was speaking like that from the beginning and when he started to lie she became more flustered. The contract backed him but he knew and so did they that he didn’t handle this professionally from beginning to end.Judge Mathis ruled in their favor cause he knows good and well they didn’t go through all that for nothing they just couldn’t prove it all
the dress was 1800 the deposit was 900 she only paid 500 on the day they met and then the other 400 a few days later by may 13 the money was paid in full. he said they fitted at least 3 times on may 13. I dont care what nobody says a 1800 dress should not rip because you sit down
What does a car wreck in 1996 or growing up without a father have to do with anything? These people need to go to Judge Judy so she can tell them she isn’t Dr. Phil and to get to the GD point.
Her daughter’s hair, nails, lashes, and red bottoms is why she didn’t have all of the down payment. Her daughter clearly didn’t care about how many hours her mother worked. She’s used to getting what she wants. I’m not working 7 days a week to please my child. Bye! ✌🏽
When Judge Mathis asked and on the 9th when you had the fitting what happened. The hesitation and look on their faces tells me they lyin 😂 🎉 "remember you got there on the 9th..etc" 😂 he knew they was lying 🤥
I’m so confused as to why 1 would spend so much money on a prom dress. I’ve seen beautiful dresses for much less. Black people please I beg of you, it is not necessary to literally spend all your money on a dress and shoes. I wore a beautiful dress to my prom, and my aunt paid a little over $100.00. Not 1 of her bills were missed and her bank account wasn’t dented. I had a amazing time and looked beautiful. We need to to prioritize what’s important. So many of us go broke behind this prom nonsense.
I never went to my prom. Hell after my graduation i just got my diploma & walked out. All i wanted to do was leave & never see any of those gremlins (students, teachers & staff) again. 😂😂
I'm a little surprised at JM's ruling because he usually doesn't like liars and the mom clearly lied about a lot of things. $750 would've been more than generous
Did the daughter have a date for the prom ? Wouldn't he and his family have been impacted? She changed her mind about going so easily . Mom said the girl was an introvert with not so many friends. So this dress is so glaring it is not what an introvert would want to wear. Her Mom would, but not her. I believe the girl just changed her mind and Mom wanted her money back. Judge should have awarded her the $300 and defendant the rest.
1) the dress ripped right before going so like there wasn’t time to get a new dress so I mean I wouldn’t choose to go either. 2) The date can still go without a date 3) Just bc someone is an introvert doesn’t mean they can’t like sparkles and over the top dresses. Maybe she wanted to get out of her comfort zone.
The dress ripped a little when putting on her shoes but it prolly wasnt that bad...remember she had the shorts on..then when she was getting out of the car the train started detaching from the dress exposing her bottom..this young lady was probably mortified. He said lets get started as I know how proms are...just to wait two weeks later. What is the point of taking ANY money if the process is not going to be started.I know what the contract states, but common sense says that there was a verbal agreement that he would start she would finish the deposit in two weeks and he finish the dress the 9th would be the first fitting...they were running late on the 9th...he texted. .they called him back telling him that they were in the way..they got there the dress wasnt ready enough for her to fit...On the 14th it was rushed and not sewn properly and ruined the prom day. He prolly had too much going on. The plaintiffs arent articulating well but Judge Mathis can see what happened. The nail in the coffin was the defendant admitting to fault, by stating that he would fix the dress...make up and hair do over and a photo shoot...why do all that if no fault. All parties learned from this.
Did you see the daughter's nails? She picked that dress. I also don't think she had a date bc her mom was driving her there. The dress seems like overcompensation for gong alone.
This woman works 70 hours. I would be lost too. Its disappointing because she did give him money and he could've started it but you know how some people are. Oh I'll pay you back this day and never do..
The plaintiff should change his policies as a result of this ruling. If a client does not give you the full deposit by the due date, don't start on the dress, cancel contract, & charge a non-returnable deposit fee that covers the consultation & your administrative time, then return remaining funds from deposit. Same with clients & fittings. If they don't attend the required # of fittings & give sufficient time to complete the dress on time, cancel the contract & add a charge for labor & material. Give them an unfinished dress so someone else can complete the last-minute dress. This way, you preserve your time for clients who pay on time & you weed out the people who are looking for an excuse to get their money back.
This case was ALL OVER THE PLACE and terrible communication on both parties!! Regardless, the dress ripped/tore and caused her to miss prom! Missing prom is crucial for most! Me personally, i would not have given af! Spending ALL that money just for a couple hours 🙄
Financial literacy is necessary. If you have to work 70 hours per week to afford your child’s prom dress… it’s above your means. I swear keeping up with them Jones’ never ends well.
You can tell they were lying about the 9th, they couldn’t get story straight and daughter nudged her mom to be quiet . The mom was clearly buying out of her means when she’s working so much to buy red bottoms and can’t pay deposit for dress on time
Ahw poor baby, she felt embarrassed by her mom, which is normal at that age but I can only imagine how mortified she felt as she's already a very shy girl. Hope she can forgive her parents and not hold this against them, hope the mom learned from this and not make this mistake in front of her daughter again.
Y’all missing the point saying the defendant should have won. It doesn’t matter WHAT the contract said what words were said the bottom line is by the time they picked up their dress they had paid in full and he gave them some thrown together BULL that didn’t fit. If you thought they were poor don’t accept their money. Treat every customer the same and your business will flourish
ill never get why we need their life story like shut up and talk about the case not about how you grew up i legit dont care judge judy would be like get on with the case i wanna go eat sushi
The dress didn't rip because they didn't show up for enough fittings. The dress ripped because it probably was too tight or wasn't made sufficient to the daughter's size. Any designer knows that you have to have enough ease allowance in your garment for it to be functional. He didn't allow enough ease, so the malfunctioning of the dress was on him as it's his business.
Also, when dealing with a plus size client always try to use a fabric with stretch because glitter mesh fabric will rip and she probably didn’t have enough fabric in the seat of that jumpsuit which would’ve been rectified with the fitting that she didn’t show up to …
If this was judge Judy her case would have been dismissed on the first lie. As black ppl we just need to admit to ourselves when we can’t afford nothing. & the dress makers needs to stop being nice when she didn’t have the 900 upfront he shouldn’t have accepted the 500

Exactly not handling their business 🤣🤣this why I don’t deal with people always trying to get over
I was in a beauty pageant in my younger days.
Exactly!
The mother is teaching her daughter a terrible lesson in accountability. She had a lot of trouble articulating her case.
Simple.
Right 😂😂
That big girl wanted a $1500 prom dress? WTF? Has anyone heard of priorities? Ridiculous
The defendant was very professional and presented himself well: The mother and daughter were all of the place with their story the mom kept looking at the daughter and they often couldn’t come up with answers to the questions JM asked; I believe they lied
Anyhow: does anyone have the defendants information I tried looking him in IG that viral wedding gown was GORGEOUS 😊
Girl relax 😂😂 u just want to follow him because he is a popular dress maker, u know damn well I won't be buying one ..
The mama slow, and lying. I would never spend that much on prom ESPECIALLY IF I CAN'T AFFORD IT
It's easter and cost less to Just buy a dress
That mother lying out her azz🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
So, the man is too. That's why he had to pay $1500.
If theres anythin to learn from this case, its that you should read EVERY part of a contract before signin. The amount of things they didnt know was in the contract is crazy 🤣🤣🤣
i would have been bought a backup dress after all that messy communication..if i didnt have my dress by 2/3 days before prom i would have bought something else..mother seem alil slow too, feel sad for the girl but i would have found something to wear , im not missing prom lol
Yes something was off with the mom.. not being mean.
She literally said at the beginning she was in a terrible car accident. It was so bad that she couldn’t walk or talk, which indicates that she had a severe brain injury. She’s not slow 💀
I think JM only gave them the 1500 because he felt sorry for the daughter. In my opinion they would of got $300 because they lied about being there for another fitting
They should of had a back up dress. I just did my niece prom and we had plans for a back up dress if her dress wasn’t ready at least 2 weeks before Prom. But it was, sorry she missed her prom but that’s her mom fault
No, she got the right amount of money back. And it was mom and designer fault she did get to go to her prom. Poor business relationship.
There's no way she should have missed the prom. They weren't prepared at all and she shouldn't have waited until the DAY OF THE PROM. Who does that?
Literally crazy !!! Why didn’t she have a backup dress ? She knew that was way too close!

Different times
@@AuthenticallyAubree Yes! the times are different, but many of today parents are investing too much money on excess materialism for their children, and they can't hardly eat and make ends meet week in and week and out, and not enough money on education. Often it's because their are trying to live their life bi-curiously through their children lives. Now that's a fact.
@@TimeisNeutral ** vicariously… but I agree. I’m an early 90s baby. It doesn’t take a 2k dress to have a good time in my opinion but we literally live in a different day and age where the teens wear designer to school. Def the parents fault for children deciding clothes and shoes is what’s important.
Yes i went to macys too was the best decision
Ain't nothing different about the times you gotta live within your means at all times . It's always a cheaper option .
Mom gave her sad story at the beginning to use in hopes of winning full claim! SMH!
The Mom is a BIG liar.😅😅
The mama started off capping I can tell
$1500 for a prom dress??? Jesussss, my daughter is 2, let me go ahead and start saving for prom 😂
my 3 year old child says, "liked-did it" 😅😅
They both gave unnecessary back stories idk how him not having a dad had anything to do with anything either 😭
🙂 I believe he only laid out his background story because the plaintiff laid out her sad background story, other than that if the plaintiff would have went straight into what the case was about I believe the defendant would have did the same... So he did it as a smart tactic to gain equal sympathy like the plaintiff... It was a good move on his part ...lol
Why does that concern you

She knew she couldn’t afford it…
She’s one of those who buys clothes use it for one night then return it…
I feel bad for the child.
u can bet that’s what happened. she probably went to that prom.
Because the dress still messed up. So yeah she paid late but he got all his money and the end result was not correct. And he had the final fitting for the day before he was supposed to give it to them? & then still didn’t have it ready until 4 days after that date. Granted they supposedly didn’t show to fitting but like you should’ve been prepared for the date in your contract that you keep bringing up
He gave it Bec the girl missed her prom and she can never get that back
Fake ass red bottoms
She cried twice he had to rule in her favor I also told the assistant I wanted her to win the money even if I did win the case. Truthfully I won the case she took the money. If I woulda won she would loss out on what she needed which was the money
You keep going Larry…. You are talented and you can’t please everyone. Mom I get it about the Miracle baby…
Very unfair
That’s because there was a fitting on the 13th. I don’t think they showed up on the 9th. They couldn’t give any details about it.
I agree they did too
The defendant even said several fittings..then he tried to clean it up by saying on the 13th.Kelise was showing the FB texts with the defendants cousin because they were in the living room of the defendants house on the 9th and relaying messages back and forth between the defendant and the cousin to set dates for hair and make up..They were there on the 9th.
@@jstew1990 I think they did give details. They said exactly which parts of the dress were not sewn together at the time, said he gave her shorts to wear, that they went after the mum finished work, and the messages the girl was relaying to her cousins about the dress while she was at the fitting
I was not and I was nervous
Her broke ass wasn’t deposit ready that’s on her why tf did he lose the case 😵💫it’s too much scamming and games in todays society I don’t blame him for not starting he could’ve avoided this and made a dress for someone that was deposit ready and also consistent with showings wasted time with her and her damn daughter
What does I don't have my mother in my life, or do I have a bad childhood growing up? Have anything to do with the case?
The plaintiff went in court as Hi Heather but came out as Bye Felicia! 😂
God Is Good All The Time And All The Time God Is Good! Get Ready You Are About To Receive Your Breakthrough!!!
Amen 🙏🏾
The defendant should have clients initial when they come for a fitting. If everyone has to initial and he writes a note on what, if any, adustmnents need to be made, there is no dispute on whether or not clients show. The mom waiting until the day of to pick up the dress is not prudent, either. Too much can go wrong when you wait until the last minute.
I don’t think 2 fittings are enough if you’re paying that much money for an unknown designer
The contract backed him but he knew and so did they that he didn’t handle this professionally from beginning to end.Judge Mathis ruled in their favor cause he knows good and well they didn’t go through all that for nothing they just couldn’t prove it all
Omg thank you. I did get frustrated we had to cut in the middle of taping cause he know he was lieing
@@heathersuehorton oh I could tell body language never lies
the dress was 1800 the deposit was 900 she only paid 500 on the day they met and then the other 400 a few days later by may 13 the money was paid in full. he said they fitted at least 3 times on may 13. I dont care what nobody says a 1800 dress should not rip because you sit down

This case should have been called: "If you turn to page..."
Ok so backstories are too long 😴 not even watching this one
From now on, all deposits must be paid in full. How you want him to rush the dress like it’s not prom season.
If I didn’t have the dress the week before, we would have been out shopping for another dress no matter what
Money was spent on red bottoms!
What does a car wreck in 1996 or growing up without a father have to do with anything? These people need to go to Judge Judy so she can tell them she isn’t Dr. Phil and to get to the GD point.
i think her backstory was a bit relevant because it gives insight as to why she was willing to do that much and pay that much money for her daughter
Her daughter’s hair, nails, lashes, and red bottoms is why she didn’t have all of the down payment. Her daughter clearly didn’t care about how many hours her mother worked. She’s used to getting what she wants. I’m not working 7 days a week to please my child. Bye! ✌🏽
Oh my goodness this was the longest case! On page, on page, my text messages, no response, no photos. SMH
Yes!! Normally he would have been made a decision 😂

What does the deposit have to do with the fact the dress did not fit? That’s stupid
Missed appointments or not the dress shouldn’t have ripped!!!
When Judge Mathis asked and on the 9th when you had the fitting what happened. The hesitation and look on their faces tells me they lyin 😂 🎉 "remember you got there on the 9th..etc" 😂 he knew they was lying 🤥
Lord have mercy they should’ve just went to J.C. Penney & got her prom dress that’s what I did!!!
I don't understand the need to go all out like that for prom. Maybe a wedding, but not prom IMO
Neither. Use that money to build legacy
I didn't get it then (in high school) and don't get it now.
me neither because $900 is too much for a prom dress
All 3 of my daughters had a prom budget. I'm not working OT especially 70 hrs for a prom. But to each.......👍🏼
right! put that money towards the childs college.
After all of that I would have been at prom in something!
she was lying so much, her daughter had to keep bumping her..lol
No, $1500 was exactly right in my opinion.
I agree …they didn’t meet commitments so once he said he don’t start till half payment received ….they breached contract
2) The date can still go without a date
3) Just bc someone is an introvert doesn’t mean they can’t like sparkles and over the top dresses.
Red bottoms.... ma'am they are normal Rainbow heels with red paint 🤦🏿♂️ and that dress was horrible. So happy I came up when we all had class!
Tackiness all around.
The mother hesitated all throughout her stories, starting from her story about being hospitalized.
This woman works 70 hours. I would be lost too. Its disappointing because she did give him money and he could've started it but you know how some people are. Oh I'll pay you back this day and never do..
the dress was beautiful i wish she wore it long enough to take pictures
The plaintiffs didn’t communicate effectively nor were they on time with payment. She should have a backup dress.
These folks didn't have a back up mall dress?! You always have a back up!
The mom wasn’t explaining anything well
I’d never spend out my means for a prom/wedding. Ross, Macy’s and etc have beautiful dresses.

So very true. I totally agree with you.
In this case, I can't believe that she forgot appointments for fitting and payments this is part of the process.

@@Random_Identityhe did say she tried it on 3 times the day before.
Exactly they didn't show the picture where she had a whole lot of room in the front but not the back
I totally agree and truly believe that's why she got the $1500 back.
Start with you.. 1996 I was in a car accident… huh?
Also, when dealing with a plus size client always try to use a fabric with stretch because glitter mesh fabric will rip and she probably didn’t have enough fabric in the seat of that jumpsuit which would’ve been rectified with the fitting that she didn’t show up to …
If this was judge Judy her case would have been dismissed on the first lie. As black ppl we just need to admit to ourselves when we can’t afford nothing. & the dress makers needs to stop being nice when she didn’t have the 900 upfront he shouldn’t have accepted the 500
So true🤣 I feel bad for her somewhat, but Judge Judy would’ve eaten her ALIVE!!!!
The dress was rushed because the funds were low. Mama should have known better. Maybe go to Macys next time
I also have a miracle child, she'll be two in May. :)
Some adults do not know how to be parents. You cannot pay for deposit but you child need red bottom shoes. Parent teach your children to live between their means.
