Kent!! So very fine to see you, as always. I absolutely love your discussion on cure time and thank you for addressing this. As you mentioned, in vendor wax this is a big topic and we have all seen vendors whose waxes profit from some amount of curing. Personally I am willing to accept one to two months of cure time. Beyond that, I think it is indeed an excuse for weak wax...but there are also so many moving parts to good throw, as you have outlined. In general, I think it's good for us to hold all brands and vendors accountable to test their products for decent throw. I didn't know you had gotten that heavily into candle making, and for me this further reinforces your right to speak on all of these subjects because you have had your hands in it. You're a force of nature, Kent, and I have so much respect for you. Beautiful haul and I am continuing to enjoy Homeworx this year. Thanks for all you do for us!! ❤️🥳😘

Hey thanks for another great HomeWorx video! I click on your videos the first opportunity I have after getting the notification. I’ve told you this before and will say it again…lol…that I really appreciate you comparing HomeWorx candles to other candle brands. Your plethora of candle knowledge is astounding. I love the HomeWorx praline pecan. You probably don’t remember but B&BW released a candle in 2018 called praline pecan. Some are actually for sale on Mercari. I bought about 5-6 of them back in the day and it’s an exact dupe to HomeWorx praline pecan. I’m hoping you will do some candle reviews from this haul. I would love to hear your thoughts on caramel apple spiced tea, birchwood vanilla and the bake shoppe collection golden harvest pumpkin, deep dish apple pie and if you want to crimson leaves…lol! Take care! 😀

You're so welcome, Shannon! Glad you enjoy my videos. I totally remember the Praline Pecan from BBW. I don't think I ever picked it up though because it smelled just like Praline Pecan Cobbler that was out before. I'll try to do reviews on some of these new ones :)

Thank you for discussing the curing! I had put the pouring/shipping timelines together as well and it didn't make sense to me either.

I agree with you about curing. I don't feel it's necessary at all for a Homeworx or BBW candle and I refuse to spend months at a time waiting to use a candle. If it doesn't perform for me when I receive it then it's not a candle I'll purchase again. I've had a lot of issues with certain Homeworx candles being weak and it seems like some people who are active in the Homeworx community constantly use the curing excuse each time one of the scents turns out to be weak as a way of making sure no one says anything negative about a Homeworx product. I love Homeworx as well as BBW but every company is going to have a dud occasionally so why not just admit it's a weak performer?

What a great video...this curing might be the reason why the candles I am making don't smell right when I immediately burn them! Thank you for sharing this ❤ Also, you really got me into Homeworx. I bought Autumn Trail, but it legit smells like Christmas to me. I smell balsam or Christmas tree, so I think it will be better around the holidays. Also Beach Grass, while strong, was a disappointment. I felt it smelled like a Glade candle or Febreeze. Just really supermarket and not complex whatsoever. Banana Maple Pancakes was a big winner surprisingly, and I don't usually like pancake scents

Thank you for this extremely comprehensive review of many Homeworx candles, and for your comments on letting candles "sit" to improve their throw. Your reviews are the best! It may be my imagination but the scent notes of some of my BBW candles have changed after letting them sit for a few weeks. Just one example is Surf Shop. When it first came out I dismissed it as yet another sage-based cologne scent. A few weeks later I could smell the spruce, a woodsy scent, and a little citrus. Go figure! And I LOVE Scentworx French Vanilla Pumpkin. Toasted Pumpkin S'mores handsoap is pretty great, too.

I bought into the cure time initially and let candles sit for a couple weeks, but I came to the same realization. And after burning candles that sat for months (unintentionally) without any change in their strength and throw, needless to say, I’m not ‘curing’ candles anymore. The candles are weak and no amount of time will change that. I also have bottles of FO I recently threw out because they sat for a year and lost their strength or the scent changed.

Thanks Kent! You are spot on with the curing. Where we see candles or melts need to be cured is with smaller companies that pour upon order and ship. Those do great with a week or 2 cure time. Store bought has already cured. So good to see you. Take good care.

    • @TheCandleChannel
      @TheCandleChannel  3 года назад

Right! I think the few months advance pouring alone should be more than enough cure time on these candles. Thanks for watching, Kim!

Listen, Homeworx has not came out and said to cure a damn thing so I ain't fallin for it 🤣
I have had my Banana Maple Pancakes and Vanilla Orchard Crisp get stronger when I burned them weeks apart tho. However, I'm not buying into the curing in the candle world for HWorx and you know I buy a lot. The timeframe doesn't add up. This is also how it started in vendor wax... with weak performing vendors. One thing I liked about the candle world, was that people didn't make excuses for the companies' products/ performance. But that's changing and it's becoming more and more like the vendor wax community.
    Alas!
Ugh I hated Chestnuts roasting 🤣 and I love Chestnut scents. Love all through the house but not a fan of leaves. The evergreen sticks out most to me and I love tree scents! Thanks Kent!

Gorgeous living area!.....I am not buying like I used to but I keep getting suckered in on Homeworx because of the pedestals and labels...I buy from QVC because of the easy pay since many of the new scents drop at once. That way I can get them before they sell out or go up in price but I really don't like getting two just like you said because I don't always love them to need two....The notes listed hardly translate to my nose so it is a risk but I still do it more than I should....Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these scents.

I totally agree with you about curing. That is probably the reason why BBW pours their candles so far in advance for each season, so they are ready to burn when they are released in stores for sale. Great haul and always your awesome reviews! Have a wonderful weekend! 🤗💙 Kim

23:23 I'm reading more and more about Harry Slatkin and it seems to me he's less of a fragrance creator and more of a really good salesman lol - he clearly had a massive talented team and a lot of money when he was at BBW and that's just not the case now!

Hey Kent - So happy to see a video upload and am hoping (fingers crossed) to hear from you on BBW's storefront with the new new that's being released. Been hesitant on pulling the trigger on the Sunflower Sunset so was excited to hear your thoughts. Interesting on the cure time method of candle - had no knowledge of method. You had me laughing mid way with the "I'm always looking for strange & different fragrances..." Yes, I am here for the STRANGE! lol Juicy reviews - thanks Kent!!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I find it interesting that some people believe they need to cure candles; you made some great, logical arguments around why that isn’t necessarily. I will say that quite a few vendor wax companies actually use a parasoy blend (some do use straight soy, coconut, etc), but vendor wax is either preorder or ready to ship, so a shorter window than candles like you mentioned. If a candle is using fragrance oils, I’m sure curing won’t hurt it, but I prefer to buy my candles to enjoy in the season. Anyway, thanks for the fun discussion! Your new place looks lovely!

Thank you for the info on curing time. It seemed odd to have people say I need to let a non-vendor Christmas candle cure until spring! Huh, I won’t even want to burn it then! I wanted to ask you since you will know… was the BBW Sweet Spearmint candle a good one?

It’s just lingered In the house. 🔥🎃Pumpkin bonfire is great and strong. 🌿🌱🍂🍁🌱I got crimson leaves your right is definitely different can’t explain it but it reminds me of my 😉😊childhood days 🙂🙂in elementary when we watch and took care of caterpillars 🐛and the grass leaves and sticks mixed smell in the jar!!! 😄🌿🌱🪴🍂 but I liked it hahah!! You did good describing that one haha have a great day!! 😁😁😍😍

It’s interesting that you got a woodsy note from Winter Hearth. The two main notes I got from that candle were a boozy, brandy-type note along with a a burning dust note that reminded me of when you first turn on your heat for the season if you’ve ever had electric, baseboard heaters. It was gross.

Interesting topic on curing. I'm a fan of it, but it could be all my imagination as I have never studied candlemaking. I noticed that candles that I originally thought had very low throw seemed to have a much stronger scent the next season. Even the blend seemed to change a little. It will be interesting to see next season if anything changes with my perception now that I've heard this discussion! Everything you said, along with some of the comments here, certainly seem logical, but I'm probably going to continue to let them "cure" if I get results (even if the results are a figment of my imagination!) LOL One thing for sure though, candle burning is one of the most fickle activities I've ever encountered. I have pretty much just found what works for me and run with it.

I’ve found Homeworx vanilla candles are light and do better if I set them aside for a few months. I actually returned Vanilla Orchard Crisp to QVC because the scent, while beautiful, was too light with little throw. Lily of the Valley chased me out of the house! Praline Pecans creaminess kind of reminded me of Hot Cider Donut in a way. Very smooth. I’ve been buying more from Homeworx because sometimes I only need 1 candle. Shipping has been slow, but hopefully they’ve turned a corner. The biggest surprise candle was Magic Potion! Smells amazing on cold sniff. I’ll burn it closer to Halloween. Thank you for the wonderful video, it’s always a pleasure, and thank you for the Scentworx body care review. I’ll have to try it!
