- I visited the island back in July 2017 for a few days and took my drone. It's now been over a week days since Hurricane Maria and I haven't heard from my father and sisters. I've been meaning to put this up for awhile, but haven't had the chance till now. Eleven days ago hurricane Maria passed through the island and destroyed much. As of today, we have not had any communications with most people on the island. All cell towers were damaged or destroyed. They are without power, comms, water, and many other things we take for granted daily. We hope to hear from family and friends soon.

Que bella es la isla donde me crié y dónde pase mis mejores años de mi infancia. Thanks Manny. I am heading to the island in a couple days to take a generator and other supplies. Puerto Rico will rise but it's going to take a while.

Ovi, I hope your kidding about not hearing from your parents. My brother was able to contact the few remaining family members we have in Aguadilla(the airport there is fully operational). The destruction is pretty massive all around. Most of my family are leaving tomorrow for good. Like the footage and also like the music. Please keep us updated as to your families whereabouts!
Nelson, I have not heard from anyone in Las Marias, my father, sisters, or friends that live in that town. Just yesterday I received a call from a cousin that lives in San Sebastian but only because she was in San Juan and found a connection. Things are terrible everywhere she tells me.
I do have a lot of family as well in Aguadilla, the Valentin side of my family. I am told that some have communicated with my cousins in Florida and are doing OK, but like everyone else, they are suffering heavily due to this terrible situation.
I call many people several times a day, but it goes straight to voicemail. Very few cell towers are working on the island, and surely, none on the west coast. It's been twelve days and counting. Another video will be posted today from Cabo Rojo back in July. Thanks for asking.
Ovi, does your family live in a flood prone area? And if they do, where would they go if flooding did occur. Are there churches, political party affiliations, friends outside of Las Marias that might know of their whereabouts. Your dad sings(and records)you stated. Which would make him more noticeable than others, in that community, and probably outside out side of 'Las Marias' as well. I'm trying to deconstruct the scenario in case I wanted to initiate emergency phone calls. Keeping them in my thoughts nevertheless!
Thanks Nelson. The entire town is disconnected still. But earlier today at noon I finally received the first phone call from him as he visited Mayaguez. He found a working cell tower. He and the family are doing well, but worried about the chaos and disaster on the island. But they are all well. Thanks.
Hi Ovi we never stayed there although very near in La parguera, also been to Cabo Rojo beach area. We were looking at Luichy's guest house for 2 nights. They have a rest also. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
I don't because I have always stayed with family and am not aware of any places. I am sure there are many though.
Hello Duran , I'm going to Cabo Rojo for the first time in my life . I need your advice with taxi ? How does it work ? I don't know how to drive that I could rent a car ? My airport is SJU San Juan very far away . Any recommendations will help . Thank you . I'm leaving this Monday
That's a good question, but I am not familiar with taxis. I always rent a car at the airport when I go. However, there are many taxis at the airport that can take you to Cabo Rojo. It's about a three hour drive to the other side of the island and can get expensive. The taxi company at the airport can give you their taxi phone number to call them when needed. But your hotel can provide a local taxi company number which may be better while in Cabo Rojo.

Thanks Robin. I've been able to only get in touch with some, but only after they drove for hours to reach a working cell tower. But I am told all are OK. Have you seen Cabo Rojo after Hurricane Maria? If you know the area and address in Cabo Rojo where your family is staying I will drive from Hormiguerous to tell them to contact you or better yet, I will video a message from them and post it for you to see.
Cabo Rojo has been devastated just like Mani and Oricovis.
I have been in many disasters including Volcano Eruptions when I was in the US Navy. But I'm very critical of the Government of Puerto Rico's slow Disaster Recovery Response.
Thank you very much. I visited the island back in July for just a few days and we rented a house in Cabo Rojo for the weekend. I have not seen what Cabo Rojo looks like now, but my family is back in Las Marias. On October 27th I made another trip to the island, this time for 10 days and recorded some of the things that happened after the hurricane. I am now posting those videos as time allows. Video number 3 is going up today. But the family is fine and doing well. Thanks again.
