Watching that scene made me see that there was a lot of stuff cut between SF and NYC specifically there were things such as the stilt walker and the contortionist. SJB also had a bit where she played this mannequin lady on roller skates who only moves when she’s singing. SJB and Joe Mantello came up with the idea for this character, but unfortunately the surface of that stage was very uneven as as a result, she kept falling down, which meant that the character had to be cut.
When we saw it in SF in 2003, we were handed audience comment sheets. We had no idea what the show was about and I recall a few songs that didn't seem to fit. Kristen Chenowith was in a neck brace to boot. Still loved it and now my family went to see it yesterday. What staying power!
Today is the day after Christmas! And this lands in my feed. It’s been over a month since the Part 1 movie came out. And you can tell Jon M Chu has been part of the journey from a bestseller to a blockbuster production from the beginning as he stated in previous interviews. I’m liking how Kristin’s costumes are different from the final designs we see in Popular and One Short Day.
Loved the original super-bubbly “Popular” with Glinda hovering in a circle. Disappointed they changed the best song. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wicked_(musical)#Original_cast
Watching SJB’s reactions of the guy doing the tumbling and contortions during the One Short Day rehearsal during tech is priceless.

Wow the blue dress in popular is so pretty. Brazil wicked had a similar dress but for one short day 💚🩷

Saw the first Saturday performance ever which was in SF at the Curran. It was very hard to sit through. So glad they made the changes lol.
I know this is a year old comment. But out of curiosity and as a fan of the musical, what did they change?
@@ECKohns lol...I actually don't know. I have yet to see it since. That being said, whatever they did must have been a vast improvement.
@@scotchguru I desperately need to know what you hated. I know it's a big ask, but from your perspective, what made this iteration so bad?
I saw wicked in sf sooo good 🩷💚
Happy 20th Anniversary Wicked 🐒🧙♂️👩🦰🤢🧙♀️👸🏼🤹♂️🐵
