    I love the fact that Nephi pointed out what we need to do to better follow the saviour: Full purpose of heart, no hypocrisy, no deception before God, real intent and so on... What a better way to follow the saviour.. it has to be real//

    ...before the Holy Spirit entered my life, I knew no purpose for my existence & felt no reason to live...as a teen..baptism in the Church of JESUS CHRIST saved my life...to have "[received]] the Holy Ghost" is like that miraculous Vietnam rescue John spoke of in this lesson...p.s...my dad was in the U.S. Air Force (in the Office of Special Investigations) in Vietnam...@times of immediate need, the Holy Spirit HAS ALWAYS come to my rescue since the day I received Him...GOD HAS BEEN SO GOOD to ALL who will have Him be their GOD...

    I love the underlying message in the story about President Nelson and the heart valve. Sometimes, the answer to our prayers doesn't come until we are metaphorically hovering over an open chest and all other work has been done. Sometimes the Lord waits until we literally can't take another step on our own without His help. I think that the lesson here is, "Keep swimming, keep swimming, keep swimming..."

      There is good growth in those difficult times. It can be terrifying and lonely. He ALWAYS comes at the best time. This is why we need to always remember Him. By remembering the past times when He helped us we can have the confidence to step out in faith.

    Thx so much for ably playing the roles of Philips for this Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8) and for bringing so many other wonderful Philips to us. Quick adjustment: went searching for Elder Oaks’ answer to the question “Are you saved?” In his April 1995 talk to add it to “My Testament” but found it in his April 1998 talk of the Same name. 3 Nephi 27:13-16 contains the doctrine of Christ. The heart of the doctrine in verse 13 states that Jesus came to do the will of The Father. The core of the doctrine of Christ is that Jesus was lifted up on the cross, it is his Atonement. The application of the doctrine of Christ is the principles of repentance, faith, baptism, the reception of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.
    Article of faith #3 contains it all: We believe that through the Atonement of Christ all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel.

    Thank you for closed captioning. Brother Muhlestien's voice box resonates at an audio frequency that gives me a headache. I feel my eardrums are vibrating.
    (A measurable and studied auditory phenomenon I learned not a few people suffer from.)
    I was upset to think I had to turn CFM off, especially when he is your guest, but remembered closed captioning. One suggestion I recommend would be to add in names of speakers before they speak for clarity.
    Thank you for a wonderful discussion.

    It’s interesting when something is given to us from “The First Presidency” we don’t ask which one said it. We know they are unified in saying it. But we have such a hard time with Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost speaking unified. We always want to know who said this? Was that the Father or the Son? I love the Follow Him podcast! Thank you for helping us Follow Him.

      Joseph Smith said the Holy Ghost will one day receive a body. He said: “The Holy Ghost is yet a spiritual body and is waiting to take to himself a body, as the Savior did.”[Joseph Smith, Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith’s Teachings, edited by Larry E. Dahl and Donald Q. Cannon (Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1997) See also: The Words of Joseph Smith, p. 382.]

    I find it interesting the Lehi did not begin to have visions depicting Jesus coming the first advent until he studied the brass plates. I would put forward that in the brass plates are many of the plain and precious truths that were testified about by Zenos, Zenock, and Neum and that were taken from the scriptures and preserved in the BofM. Note how Lehi and Nephi are surprised by the doctrine of a dying and resurrecting God. Apparently as good "Jews" they had not heard of these doctrines before. These doctrines of an atoning God who pays for our sins were first presented to them in the brass plates and they then grow in that understanding through their own revelation. The anger expressed by the Jews toward Lehi and toward Zenos, Zenock, and Neum (they were all killed) was because they testified that these Jews would kill their own God. Thus Lehi had to get out of town or be killed himself. Anyway, it is an interesting thought.

    hum.... at 25 minutes, we talk about "real intent" and that we are working on that, to have real intent. And if we go to God, He will help us to get there. So, do we REALLY want to change? Or do we "pray a lie" to make us feel less pain for our rebelious nature. We ask for help when really we want to hold on to our sins. If God then hears that insincere prayer and changes our nature - WOULD that be counter to our agency? How can God help us when we so consistently resist? Do we really want to change, or do we lie to ourselves? I'm truly very confused by this...

    • @user-zh4fr5gj2o
      @user-zh4fr5gj2o 4 месяца назад +1

      at 29 minutes... I like what he says. You get tossed from the horse; will you give up, quit coming? Or will you stay at it. But sometimes I wonder, WHY do I come back? I wonder if I'm fooling myself. But then... how many have their calling and election? Perhaps not knowing the end is part of the test? Even when you don't know how things will turn out, even when the possiblity of success seems so far away.. will you STILL try? I wonder if I will ever be sincere.

  • @davidrenfroe8985
    @davidrenfroe8985 4 месяца назад

    Perhaps baptism was not a foreign practice in the OT. It was just edited out along with Zenos, Zenock, and Neum and the doctrine of a dying/resurrecting God.

    The doctrine of Christ is not "the whole story" the doctrine of Christ is the foundation. If you're not built on this foundation there is no story / intended gospel experience
