I'm so happy to see ONI back on the channel! This game is how I found you on RUclips, and the great playthroughs of this and other games have made me stay. Keep up the great work!
I kinda wish the bedroom and Great Hall bonuses were switched. Giving each dupe a fancy personal bedroom should be much, much more impactful (and is more material and space intensive) than a singular big hall (which, let's face it, is a regular messhall with an unused watercooler and just one plant). In particular, i'd wish to see a bit more room flavor, like a proper science room, factory room, power room etc.
Bedroom isn't a personal bedroom, though, despite what it's called - it's still a bedroom with four of the large beds in it (IIRC that's the max you can get with the room limits, could be wrong/misremembering). Though, granted, the point remains that it doesn't give much considering what you need to make those beds and how much space it takes up, yeah, and that both Mess and Great Halls gives a huge bonuses for how easy they are to make.
@@melananighthawk All the power room does is allow you to use the tune-up building. It's only really valuable for very specific uses, and there's absolutely no incentive to make a "nice" or "proper" power room. Just a simple 10% reduced resource consumption would already be nice.
@@thakillman7 True, but it does exist. I love using nature reserves for the main ladder areas between bathrooms, bedrooms and great hall - using natural plants if you are lucky, or pip planting if needed to create them. That one gives a huge boost like the great hall does, and putting it in the main thoroughfare means that everyone has to pass through it daily.
So happy to see ONI from you again. Just one quick thing: you mentioned needing a mechatronics engineer to bring algae from the other planet. Since there are already conveyor loaders set up over there, you actually only need a dupe with Field Research in order to activate the material transmitters. I think you’ve chosen to go with electrolyzers instead, but that may still be an option in a pinch.
My favorite "cheese" for these. If none of the care packages are useful, take a dupe and restrict their food options to none. They are printed with some calories and can do useful things for at least one cycle before starving. Make sure they build their own grave to limit stress effect.
@@Box-O-Soldier it can be more evil if you'll add the mod that makes so that dupes drop meat on death. /Though not as evil as that rimworld battle-tile series that just ended/
I nearly died, when you told the dupes not to clap for the research whilst panicking about the water leak, marvellous gameplay and commentary as always, glad to see ONI back :)
Yes, ONI! Recently I myself started playing it again, however, over the time with all the updates ONI has grown more strange and complex for me. Hope to see some basics on new content too.
You can check out his previous playthrough to learn more about the basics of new content: ruclips.net/video/SBANdB3H6mM/видео.html Although he'll probably explain all that stuff in this playthrough as well, once he gets past the carnivore rush and has more time to spread his wings.
ONI has been missed. If pips still work the same you might want to optimize their planting of oxiferns. You might also want to think about running a pip farm until your hatch population takes off. it would have to be built around an already fully grown tree making it interesting to try and fully optimize the farm
If you want a crazy morale bonus I love going for a Nature Reserve between bedrooms and the mess hall. It's insane how much that can do. I recently played the DLC and found myself not really using a Steam Turbine until late game, instead using an Aquatuner to heat up Steam and use that for my rockets I could refuel everywhere I landed with some gas loaders / unloaders.
A real nature reserve in a convenient spot is almost impossible to find, so I like to carve them into a spot somewhere along a central access ladder. 120 tiles is a lot to work with if it’s only 3 wide. Put some horizontal doors on it somewhere, and you’ve got a “room” that runs vertically as far as 6-7 normal levels and which your dupes are forced to run through several times a day.
Hey Francis, from my own experience the best place to get the Locavore achievement is the Sulfur Biome. The combination of grubfruit, grubgrubs, and the grill is how I got it. Anyways Good Luck.
"Yeah, this is gonna suck isn't it? It's fine... it's FINE" :-) I think I'm gonna love this playthrough! Glad to have you back on ONI, can't wait to see what trouble you get into.
Man I thought this was an old video of yours, and was so excited to binge watch it. Just saw its from today :/ I actually returned to ONI about a month ago with nostalgia and had to re-watch your videos from like 2018 about Rodrigues setup and regolith management and like 10 more :)
I can't lie... when I watched your channel update this weekend and you said you were going to focus on 1 game at a time, and first up would be ONI, I was disappointed. I've gotten so used to thinking of you as "the Rimworld guy" on my RUclips list, that's really all I associated you with anymore even though you do a lot more. After watching this episode... I remembered why I came to this channel in the first place, and that was for ONI. It'll be nice watching a series where I'm not worried that the colony will be wiped out in the next attack, and it'll be fun to see how you tackle all of the problems you gave yourself with this challenge. This will be a nice change of pace! I'm excited again!
Yess, I love that you're doing a max difficulty, all achievements playthrough. That's the only way I play nowadays. Although I've never tried it on radioactive ocean before. I'm sure you'll figure out ways to deal with the various challenges you encounter. Sounds like a SPOM will be top priority, along with incubators. Once you get past the initial hurdles, I'd strongly recommend you build a bottomless SPOM in space for hydrogen power. Of course knowing you, we'll probably see something far crazier like a cycle 50 nuclear reactor!
No plans for a nuclear reactor, we have zero access to plastic unfortunately. So no steam turbines. A bottomless SPOM made of steel should be able to give us plenty of hydrogen to knock out the power objective. I vaguely recall doing it that way the last time as well.
Great to see you playing ONI again. This is teh game that got me into your channel and you were the person who got me into ONI. One thing about achievements, in spite of not being in the list, for "Super Sustainable" you can't use ethanol either, because as soon as you build a petroleum generator it fails the achievement. On the other hand, I would think hungry dupes make it easier to get carnivore (providing they don't starve) because in my playthroughs going for it, the hard thing was hitting the 100 cycle limit without having eaten enough. Finally, you forgot to set the direction on your sinks.
Recently started an all achievement run on spaced out (not crazy difficulty though). At Ravenous difficulty, you'll need 10 dupes eating full meat for 20 cycles, so you have a lot of time with infrastructure. For sure, this is hardest with the sustainable achievement as well, so you'll need to get incubators ASAP to get the hatches up and running to full power. You dont have to build full automation on incubators to save power, you can use an automation switch (or a daily timer) to turn it on and off without using weight plates, buffer, etc. Ratio should be 1.5 happy hatches for dupe on normal, so I think you'll need at least 30 happy hatches to make 5 hatches a day to make 20kcal of bbq a day. Make sure to have proper infrastructure so that hatches never get cramped because that will really delay the bbq engine. Pips might be good to supplement here, if you can get wild trees setup (or build around existing ones), its 6:1 happy pips to feed 1 dupe with bbq. Worst case scenario, port over to the other planet and kill all but 1 sweetle for meat, but I love having wild grubgrub at endgame to accelerate my farming without feeding them. Once you get locavore and carnivore, its simply a waiting game with manual generators, hydrogen generators and (if you can unlock them) solar and geothermal to hit the sustainable achievement. Best of luck!
Those difficulty changes in the beginning.. The Duplicants just became expendable Rimworld pawns :D Also, remember to change the direction on the bathroom sinks.
Finally got through last years spaced out, I’m catching up Francis! 😂. Now that I’m playing Spaced Out and failing in many spots, I love watching your series to see how you’ve passed a challenge
Nice! This is almost my current play through. Same map, max difficulty, but a few more handicaps to make it even harder: No care packages, no pip planting or wild crops (at all), no starvation ranching, no matter conversion bugs (petroleum boiler, sour gas boiler), and minimal atmo suit usage. But at least I don’t have to worry about achievements! The GM A OK achievement at the end is horrible anyway.
It feels like it's been a while alright, June 17th!! over 6 months that is crazy. Have been keeping up with the updates but they don't look to have added to much mostly just the dream stuff and a few tweaks here and there. I think they gutted the team working on it which is a pity the DLC was great and I was hoping for more.
@@FrancisJohnYT Hey! Thanks for answering. Wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for the content! I love your ONI playthroughs. Sadly not a big Rimworld fan so I miss your ONI videos but either way, a huge thank you for giving me many hours of entertainment!
SO happy to see Francis is back to ONI! I have this start and trying to get all achievements. My map only get 1 natural hatch, and I use some S/L to ensure the pod print out some hatch eggs ......
Me: I haven't played ONI in a while (a little longer than the entire SO early access period), let me ease back into the game by playing one of the initial Spaced Out maps on the standard Survival settings first. FJ: Radioactive Ocean, "max" settings, all achievements. Let's go. (Quotation marks due to care packages being enabled, given how much help those can offer, especially when going for Loca- & Carnivore, I consider that checkbox the only real difficulty setting. The rest just makes the game slightly more tedious.) Either way, this is going to be fun.
Happy to see another ONI series!! You’ve already done all achievements for the base game, and now doing it on DLC... Safe to say we should expect Patreons subscribers for DLC? Base game was 144 dupes...
So long as you rush getting a rancher (doesn't matter how good they are), it's possible to achieve with the single starting hatch. Powering incubators for 20-40 seconds every 600 seconds or so (they only need power to be sung to) helps to get the ranch up quickly. I know you usually avoid powering them, and they're fiddly to micromanage power on/off/ensuring that the dupe actually does sing to the egg when on, but they do help get the ranches active asap which you need for both carnivore and just food in general. Getting hatch eggs from the portal helps too. It also helps with locavore, as that doesn't matter if it is meat or plant origin. I got there around cycle 75, with normal hunger - but I did have to use mush bars for 10-15 years between around cycles 25-40 until the ranches were fully online, and continued to use the incubators for another 10-15 years until eggs started evolving into meat on their own. My starting rancher actually earned around 4-5 levels from singing since they'd had really low starting skills while building the ranches up to sustainability.
I was currently watching your rimworld playthrough (nomadic tribal first) as my must see for the moment. Those will have to wait when there is new ONI to watch though!
Good luck on this run looks challenging. You don't need mechatronics for the teleporters the loaders and rails are already built. You just need field research to activate them.
18:20 great hall is a bait a bit, if you depend on it, and give your dupes skills, if your temps go bad just a touch, you will have raging dupes everywhere. Its easy to get with a plant, but temps can easily take it back.
Yay! More ONI! As far as the achievements thing, those 3 are a pain. Ranching helps a lot with the meat thing along with the locovore challenge. The other thing that helps, although im not sure on this planetoid, is hollowing it out for muckroot. But like i said idk if thats on this one
I would not trust a storage bin of seeds in a room with a hatch. Also, if you are needing Moral boosts - shoot for nature reserves as part of the main ladder. you got the pips for it. also also, one of the achievements is to build 4 Nature Reserves (Some Reservations)...
Another achivement run? Dang, love it! A few refresher, maybe you might not want to dig all the natural tiles for the natural farm using pip with the alternating or 3 in a row method. Locavore should be managable with that Also self-sustaining power oxygen generator should be your current goal. Hydrogen generator is still usable without ruining the achivement after all. Just need a quick start using hamster wheel and you're good to go! Also solar panel, but i think that one is harder
Happy to see ONI is back on the menu. So the goal of this playtrough is to get all achievements? Do you have any other specific goals or limitations? By increasing the difficulty - specifically hunger - you should have an easier time achieving carnivore without completely wrecking your colony. When I did carnivore, I stopped playing after cycle 100 because i had so many dupes and they were all ranchers - the cleanup that you will have to go trough will be interesting. Will you sacrifice Dupes/Patreon supporters to Randy after cycle 100? The increased difficulty took a lot of fun out of the game for me. More hunger means just double the food production; more stress /disease means less skills, and slower progress ... For me it was just building more of the boring stuff and stuff that takes away my CPUs processing power. It is so nice that instead of me - you will have to go through that stuff and I will just see tha amazing results. The hype is real.
I'm so happy to see ONI back on the channel! This game is how I found you on RUclips, and the great playthroughs of this and other games have made me stay. Keep up the great work!

check out the mod rooms expanded, its got tons of new rooms. Nothing broken as the bonuses are fair and you still need to do stuff to make the rooms

Also, if you are needing Moral boosts - shoot for nature reserves as part of the main ladder. you got the pips for it.
also also, one of the achievements is to build 4 Nature Reserves (Some Reservations)...
Yesssss!!! Another ONI series!
Colony name: *KENSHI WHEN* haha Francis you're awesome.
Another achivement run? Dang, love it! A few refresher, maybe you might not want to dig all the natural tiles for the natural farm using pip with the alternating or 3 in a row method. Locavore should be managable with that
Also self-sustaining power oxygen generator should be your current goal. Hydrogen generator is still usable without ruining the achivement after all. Just need a quick start using hamster wheel and you're good to go! Also solar panel, but i think that one is harder
I believe the solar panel is behind radiation type research in the SO DLC.
YESS NEW ONI SERIES
Edit 4 minutes in to watching: Oh lord you really are going all out
"and the stress more fun" he says through clearly gritted teeth lol...... rip sanity
love the oni content, great to see its back
Yay!! Been waiting for this series
I watched all your Baby base videos and im hooked to watching your videos. You should try that Mod again with the new updates.
Ah that new Colony smell. Hopefully your computer has therapy scheduled to combat the coming pain.
Yessss finally back to ONI, so glad to see it.
Literally spit my drink out when I read the colony name
Can't wait to see how painful you make Rim..... I mean Oxygen not included
ONI? Oh, yes please. Cant wait to watch a series start fresh
Took you four-point-seven-five cycles to fail. 19:50
why am I excited to see this on my feed? welcome back FJ! to oni I mean.
